Anyone go to UWO?
  Zortch, Jul 21 2008

Heyas TL.
Just wondering if anyone goes to UWO(University of Western Ontario)? Or just lives in London .
I'm going into 3rd year math there, and am a D+ zerg.
Think it might be cool to be able to have someone to talk starcraft with sometime or something like that.
Anyone? Anyone at all?

Cheese...
  Zortch, Jul 18 2008

Cheese...
It comes in all sorts of flavors, shapes and sizes.
Wheels of cheese, wedges, you name it.

Wikipedia defines cheese as follows:
Cheese is a food made from milk, usually the milk of cows, buffalo, goats, or sheep, by coagulation. The milk is acidified, typically with a bacterial culture, then the addition of the enzyme rennet or a substitute (e.g. acetic acid or vinegar) causes coagulation, to give "curds and whey".[1] Some cheeses also have molds, either on the outer rind (similar to a fruit peel) or throughout.

But, as yummy as it is...its kinda boring to read about.
However, there is a specific brand of cheese that I would like to discuss and that is of course Starcraft cheese!
The manliest and most awesome cheese of all.

What is cheese?
Cheese is sometimes considered to be any 'all-in' strategy.
Or maybe just a strategy that is a big risk often resulting in big gains.

I, however have a different view on cheese that I think and hope atleast some others hold.

Now I have only been following the proscene for about 9 months. But even in the short time that I have been here I have noticed that players are getting greedier and greedier.
One base play used to be standard, low econ games were the main stream thing and yes I'm sure this was atleast partly due to maps. These days it seems like if a player doesn't fast expand they get labeled as a cheese rusher.

This is an injustice to the game of starcraft!!!

Take (Z)July vs Best as I'm sure it is fresh in everyone's mind. Was (Z)July cheesing Best with his all in strategys? Some say yes, some say no. But as some TL poster said
"You are not guaranteed a mid-game just for showing up!"

Yes!! Oh God yes, one million times yes!!!

If a low econ rush strategy like a 2 hatch hydra break of something of that sort is cheese then so is 14 CC.
Think about it... It is taking a big risk for huge gains.

Anything goes in a game of starcraft, and players should not be looked down upon because they don't conform to a macro style and don't give nice long standard games.

The current trend of all this unpunished fast expanding has lulled us into a distorted view of what is cheese and what exploiting a weakness in a build order is.
I believe we will soon see a shift into more low econ play as all these fast expand builds are getting punished.

**SPOILERS BELOW TURN BACK IF YOU ARE BEHIND ON YOUR STARCRAFT WATCHING**
+ Show Spoiler +

This isn't some wierd duel: 10 supply at daybreak or something. This is a strategy game any it doesn't matter how you win.

So please stop breaking our your big cheese stamp at the drop of a hat! These super star players should know the risks that come with their fast expanding and maybe soon they will learn from their mistakes.

Thanks for reading, hopefully its alright...
I ended up staying up till 7am watching the MSL then went to bed so I'm on 4 hours, which isn't too bad.

And one more thing...I'm throwing this post to (Z)Jaedong so that Lecaf has a better chance to win the MSL...for all that is holy! People. Drop it!

Computer Programming, compiling a shared library
  Zortch, May 16 2008

Hey, so I'm a math student working on a computer program.
I've got to call some C methods from my java code so I'm working on learning some basic JNI(java native interface).

I am working on Fedora.
I'm putting together the very simple HelloWorld program for starters.
I'm following along exactly with the book.
Java code is written fine, C code is written fine.
Now I need to compile HelloWorld.c into libHelloWorld.so but the book only gives commands to do this for Solaris and Win32. I tried the Solaris command but it didn't work.
The command given is:
cc -G -I/java/include -I/java/include/solaris HelloWorld.c -o libHelloWorld.so

The message I get is:
cc: unrecognized option '-G'
HelloWorld.c:5: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘void’
HelloWorld.c:8: error: stray ‘\’ in program
HelloWorld.c:8: error: missing terminating " character

If anyone has any idea of the proper command or what I'm doing wrong I'd appreaciate it, Thanks!
