I've realized recently that I'm spending way too much time online and things that happen in the online world are affecting my confidence and daily life way more than they should be able to.
Therefore I want to compile a list of things to do over the Winter period that involve the following;
~ Getting away from the computer. ~ Not costing vast amounts of money. ~ Something one can do alone and/or with others. (LOL.) ~ Are Seoul specific in certain cases.
Current List of Ideas:
~ Reading books. ~ Watching dramas and movies. ~ Studying (languages, etc.) ~ Going for walks. ~ Setting photography challenges to myself. ~ Cookery. ~ Sewing. ~ Learning a new skill of some kind. ~ Writing letters. ~ Working on eSports projects. ~ Making jewelry.
Added:
~ Learn to cook Korean (or foreign) foods. ~ Play video games. ~ Make snow men.
Any more ideas? Winter-specific things are definitely an option by now. (It's absolutely freezing here!) Also ideas for that skill are also welcome.
[Edit]
I forgot to mention - recommendations for the following are also gratefully accepted;
~ Books/Movies/Dramas and other things to watch/play/read. ~ Cookery sites/recipies. ~ Crafts. ~ eSports projects. ~ Places to go in Seoul.
This time I decided to take the opportunity over WCG (because I'm not there obviously.) to blog about my camera supplies. I've had quite a few people asking what set up I'm using and have used in the past.
I hope this is a useful video and if you have any more camera related questions don't be afraid to ask
Sadly MSL selection night was delayed so today I found myself with my camera and nothing to photograph. So on the way home I went looking for bikes with progamer names for a thread in BW. I ended up taking a few more photos.
The latest video is not really part of the series it's more of a silly moment backstage at OGN. The camera man was eSTRO manager Hwanni and apologies to poor Seungdae.
A proper blog will be added tonight. If someone wants to translate the Korean then feel free. Susie gave me the basic gist of it.
Getting to and from IEF from Seoul was a hike which involved three taxis, one train and a lot of walking. I then sat down on a concrete floor in the middle of nowhere outside temporary stage area, got gassed by a smoke machine and came away smelling of rotten eggs due to the fire works.
It was definitely worth it though. Sorry for all the angled shots, but I was kind of exhausted by this time and hadn't eaten anything since lunch time so I went back to my old habits.
IU sucked so no photos of her. I have a small smattering of photos of Incontrol, Bisu and Boxer, but I mainly went to photograph SHINee and SNSD so they'll be posted later on.
This isn't really a formal project for me since it's more personal than my usual work. I've decided to keep a series of spontanious eSports related video blogs whenever something interesting happens or the urge to chat about eSports just strikes me. I'll use this for filming non-SC events and anything else that doesn't fall under my official projects.
eSports Video Blog #1: 100 Messages for KT Rolster and Progaming fashion.
Someone just told me it was impressive I managed to cover my entire face using my camera. It's getting closer to the cold and snowy period in Korea, but I am a hat/scarf person who loves being as covered up as possible so hacking off most of my hair doesn't seem like such a big deal.
GTR called me a typical emo. I may or may not now hold his SNSD socks hostage. So, yes, that's it - a personal blog for once amidst all the SC. I felt like a change to go along with losing 6 pounds over the last month or so.
The plaster on my finger compliments the one on my neck quite nicely - I managed to do a Bisu and cut myself by accident twice during the evening. On a coat hanger and my shower room door.
Tonight I lost 10 inches, but it's okay because I'm a girl.
I was speaking to Lilsusie over MSN this morning and describing to her how I feel as though my internship with Fomos isn't a success. So far the bulk of the comments for the first two articles were complaints from the Korean netizens about the lack of a translation.
Then I posted my eSTRO manager interview and received only 11 comments plus it was dropped off the front page within five hours or so of being published.
The article has gotten a lot of comments here on TL once I reposted it, but that doesn't help the initial humiliation I felt when it came to posting it on Fomos. The same can be said for the conclusion of the Violet Introduction project - where are you FanCafe members?
It's hard not to feel a little daunted by this prospect of little to no feedback when I have two huge projects lined up (100 Messages and JD Card.) I might still enjoy this work, but despite Susie's advice I'm the kind of person who thrives on feeling as though she is contributing something that matters.
I'm incapable of looking at my own work and saying it's good most of the time. (That feels kind of arrogant to me.) Konadora and Smix spoke of something similar regarding people not commenting on finished translations. I understand how they felt at the time.
My work remains unpaid and my equipment costs *a lot* of money. I'd estimate 3/4 of my monthly salary goes on eSports related items (lenses, project supplies and transport to matches.) However, without comments I don't have the motivation to give up my evenings and weekends to do the work. I'm attempting to remember all the projects that have received lots of feedback, but it's difficult to find inspiration lately.
In response to my own problems with motivation I wanted to try and understand what kinds of projects TL members will care about. I am limited by not being able to translate without help, but I can do most other things.
I have to keep reminding myself I'm writing/working for a demographic that is totally different to many of the fans here in Seoul. I'm not sure exactly what Teen-20something and beyond men enjoy when it comes to connecting them with the Korean scene.
So any ideas for future projects and a way to get out of my YellOw phase would be gratefully received. I'm not expecting a million comments for every single photo I post, but having to urge my friends to comment and bumping the thread myself to even get past 20 comments on something stuff is kind of depressing.
I have to make a choice in January whether to stay in Korea or to go home. It's very heavily dependant upon Teamliquid and if I still feel as if I'm doing something worthwhile for everyone.
Susie told me not to try to please everyone, but when it comes to eSports photography and other journalism I can't really help at least trying.
I'm taking a week off over Chuseok from doing live events to think long and hard about how to motivate myself for the new season and my own expectations of my work/the response to it.
I want to keep working hard for everyone and to move past these issues I have with confidence and worrying about a lack of comment feedback.
Please don't rate me 1 star for the epic amount of men in this post. I'll be adding the Xing Opera photos when I get home. It was so much fun to photograph Super Junior and Big Bang for the first time at ASF.
The whole Shiwon/Kyuhyun/Gackt meeting cracked me up. What a combination.
My Heechul bias - let me show you it.
(Taken using my Nikon/Sigma combo as opposed to the Canon/Canon combo.)
Ah, I love photographing concerts so much! I won't get to do this at Dream Concert 2009 sadly, but it was amazing to shoot from front row once at least.
Bonus ~ NG Photos.
Hangeng realizes Super Junior have been mistakenly given SNSD's award and shows everyone else until Heechul runs over to swap it back. The girls were laughing at their award too when one of them noticed.
Sorry for the rubbish OP format and lack of notes - it's now 1am and I've been editing photos for over and hour and a half with a banging headache. These are the 2NE1 and Girls' Generation photos from ASF which was held today in Seoul's World Cup Stadium.
Don't ask me what evilness I had to pull to basically get to the front row and take these. It was epic.
P.S. I used the old Nikon, not the new Canon because that's reserved only for eSports photography!
I may post the Super Junior, Big Bang and other photos later on, but for now enjoy some girls
