XSplit capture methods: a quick analysis

I've been quick to recommend people use DXTory instead of xsplit's screen region, but until now I hadn't really done much research on the subject. I decided to do some very rough benchmarks comparing screen region to game source and dxtory. These results will probably vary between systems a lot due to different CPU and video cards. This test is only testing capture, no streaming occurred.

BlizzCon 2011 Experience and Photos

a.single_image img {border:1px solid #000;margin:2px }
So BlizzCon 2011 was my first ever BlizzCon. I'm putting this blog together with some of my quick thoughts and a few photos. Right out of the door I'm going to say I was pretty disappointed with how SC2 was handled. It was nearly impossible to see non-featured stage matches, the stage matches they chose to show were questionable and there ...

SC2NetInfo

I've seen a number of posts where people claim to be able to reduce lag in SC2 by way of the Leatrix Latency Fix (among other suggestions that don't actually do anything). This was a valid suggestion in the beta since SC2 used TCP which is what the latency fix changes (it disables delayed acks, resulting in a latency improvement in exchange for lower throughput). However Blizzard has implemente...

Workaround For Patch 13 Lag

UPDATE (May 26): My Starcraft II no longer seems to be using UDP (in very brief testing in FFA), so Blizzard may have disabled UDP use, rendering this program obsolete.

Beyond the complete game drops that seem to be the result of a the game servers at Blizzard crashing, there still seems to be a high amount of in-game lag (slow unit response / minor freezing / random drop screens / etc) in P...

Reducing SC2 CPU Usage

EDIT: I should have tested this more before :(.

If you want to reduce CPU usage, you can edit your Variables.txt in My Documents / Starcraft II and add the line "frameratecap=60". This also reduces CPU usage as well as GPU usage, contrary to how I thought it worked.

Who the hell coded 1.16?

So I finally got around to taking a look at the lag issues in 1.16. Seems someone at Blizzard thought it would be a good idea to throw a 10ms delay into the game loop AND a 5ms delay after processing the Windows message queue. 15ms of delays in a game that previously has 0ms of delays can mess up quite a few things, as evidenced by the problems the early versions of CPU Savior had. For a game w...

1.16 CPU lag possible fix

It seems Blizzard neglected to call timeBeginPeriod, which means unless some other application requests a higher timer resolution, BW will run at the default resolution which makes short delays impossible. This is possibly why the new patch seems to make BW "laggy".

If you experience CPU lag / frame skipping / etc, give this a try and see if it gives you different values for the ti...
