I'm trying to diagnose an internet problem I'm having at home.
I have DSL and: - I cannot always obtain a signal - I cannot always maintain a signal once obtained - When I do obtain a signal, it is very slow (i.e. 3 kb/s download rate) - If I attempt to use a lot of bandwidth, the connection dies (e.g. going to stream a video)
I've called my ISP numerous times, and every time the line test says the signal is fine, save once where it said there was a problem on my end. So, apparently the signal is fine from their end, but I'm having trouble recieving it and maintaining a connection.
So basically either it's: - A problem with the wiring on my house, which doesn't make sense because sometimes the signal works, and sometimes it doesn't - The modem, which I've had more than one person tell me, so maybe it's just worn out - The physical cords, which I'm replacing when I return home
Is there a way I can determine exactly what the issue is?
Okay so, I'm taking the civil service exam in June, which means if I'm offered employment I'll probably be off to the Academy at some point in the near future, which means I ought to try to do some stuff to prepare beforehand so I don't show up as the only overweight guy.
I'm not at all concerned with strength training; I'm concerned more with increasing my stamina and agility. I don't really exercise, so I'm not really sure where to start.
I know I should stretch before I do anything to help prevent injuries. I should also stretch after I exercise, correct?
So should I just go walk, do pushups, situps, etc.?
I just noticed that the MBS discussions has gone into its fourth thread. I honestly don't feel like reading through every post in every thread, so I felt like making a poll
I'm just curious what the general consensus is on this.
Poll: Do you like the inclusion of MBS in SC2? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No (Vote): Not Sure
Hm, I have a PC that I built myself (read: my friend did it ), meaning it's not a PC I bought as it is. I bought each part and had a friend throw it together.
But when I format, do I want to use the CDs that came with the hardware to install drivers and such? People always tell me to get the latest drivers, so I wouldn't want to use a year old CD, right?
And when I get drivers from a website, do I want to go to the manufacturer's website, or the parent company's website? For example, the video card I have is an eVGA 8800 GTS. Do I go to NVIDIA's website for the drivers, or to eVGA's website?
And for the motherboard, do I go to Gigabyte's website or Intel's?
Why is YouTube suddenly skipping on me? It used to be that I'd go to watch a video, and it'd start after a few seconds and rarely it might stop in the middle of the video to buffer again.
However, now it does it almost every four or five seconds. Hearing the audio stop every few seconds is just fucking annoying.
I didn't play last round, so I want a little help understanding the flow of the game. I didn't want to PM Chiui, as I'm sure he's done enough work.
So basically, at the start of the day, clues are given based on the results of the previous night. At night, the mafia collectively chooses one person to kill, and then clues are given to all players the following morning as to what happened at night (as I just said). Any players with special roles can act at night, too? Is this correct?
Them, during the day, all players discuss who they want lynched?
Nobody knows who anyone else is, except that all mafia members know who the other mafia members are? All roles are hidden, as well?
So basically, play mind games with people and try not to give away who I am?
P.S. I've never played anything like this before, as I noticed some of you saying you have, so that's why I'm a little unsure of what happened.
Sigh. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do when I get my degree, but I'm not so sure anymore.
I'm an undergraduate student majoring in psychology, and my GPA hasn't been consistent. I went from a 3.0 my first year to about a 2.65 currently. It's not terrible, but it's not great, either. It'll get me a degree, but it likely won't get me into graduate school.
The problem with a two- or four-year degree in liberal arts or social sciences is that it's relatively useless in that area without a graduate degree.
For example, a degree in accounting means you're going to go into accounting. A degree in psychology (or sociology, or history, or English) doesn't work the same way. Sure, I can still get a job, but it likely won't be a meaningful job or a job that can become a career.
About a year ago, I was absolutely certain I wanted to go to a decent graduate school that offered a stipend, and get a PhD in clinical psychology. I would have had a lot of options doing that. I could become a professor, or do research, or provide therapy, or hell, I could have even become an analyst for the CIA.
But given my current GPA, it's doubtful I'll get into a good graduate school. Even if I do get in, it's doubtful I'll get a sizeable stipend, if one at all.
But psychology isn't the only thing I want to do with my life. I've wanted to be a police officer since I was a kid. I think it'd be a great job; you get to drive around all day, enforce laws that social deviants think they're above, and I'd actually be in a position to help others. The only problems with this are that it's not exactly easy to become an officer. There are high drop-out rates from the Academy, and it's not exactly a job that constantly has open positions.
I could also go into teaching. I love having the summer off, and some topics I'd love to talk about all day. I like social studies (obviously), I like history to a certain extent, and I'm a grammar Nazi so I could even teach English.
