"This has 'WTF' written all over it. 'Half Baked' star Dave Chappelle was recently on ESPN radio. Among the topics discussed was, strangely, the UFC and it's rise in popularity. Chappelle was asked if he enjoyed or followed MMA:

" Yeah I watch it sometimes, It’s always been something I wanted to do. I don’t mean I’m looking for a career in it , but you know I would probably do it just for maybe one or two fights. "

Chappelle went on to explain his current training:

"Like I said earlier man, its only a hobby, but I like training hard. Obviously with my career I’m always all over the place, but when I’m in Vegas, I try and stop in at Xtreme Couture, cause Randy is my boy. But yeah you know, if I’m in a place for more than a few days, I’ll go and train. I really like training down at ATT, they got some awesome guys there."

When asked who Chappelle would most like to fight if he ever were to compete:

" It doesn’t really matter to me man, I mean if i train hard and correctly it shouldn’t matter. It would be pretty fun to fight Rogan though. I know he trains and is a badass he is pretty big, but it would still be fun . Id like to fight Kat Williams too, yeah I’d really like to fight him."

Though it is no surprise that there are celebrities out there who like MMA and there are those who even train in a martial art as a hobby it does sound sort of strange to hear. The most notable celebrities I can think of who love MMA or martial arts and even train for fun, besides Joe Rogan and Kevin James, is star of the great 1990s TV series 'Married With Children', Ed O'Neil (a black belt in BJJ under Rorion Gracie). The other celebrity that comes to mind is musician, Maynard James Keenan. The lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle has studied under Rickson Gracie and last I heard was a purple belt in BJJ.

This revelation from Chappelle just strikes me as kind of odd, but then again Dave Chappelle is an odd person. One day he's going on sabbatical to Africa, the next he's training at Xtreme Couture. Talk about odd.

Anyways, I'd imagine Chappelle has a mean uppercut.

"

When I saw this is took a step back it struck me as extremely surprising. Dave Chappelle is seriously a cool dude and I'd be interested to see a video of him training. I also had no idea that Maynard trained in bjj...under of all people Rickson Gracie.

I remember a long time ago someone posting a youtube video of a rap song and I remember liking it but I havn't been able to find it anywhere.

It was in black and white. I think it was by notorious big (might not have been).

Does anyone have any clue what song this might be?

A while back (in December I think), I started a blog talking about my first few weeks in MMA class. ~5 Months later here I am presented with a problem.

When I first joined the class, there were a few guys there who were clearly better than me since they had been training for a lot longer. One guy in particular (the guy that I have a problem with) had trained in jiu jitsu for almost 5 years up until that point. After the first few classes, this guy just stopped showing up.

I guess I've progressed pretty quickly and I would consider myself either #1 or #2 in the class. Last week, jiu jitsu guy (let's call him Jeff) recently started showing up to class again. I initially thought this was pretty cool since I'd have more competition and get better training.

Well the other day my instructer was unable to come to class and he asked me if I would be able to run the class for him. I agreed and showed up last thursday not really knowing what we were going to do.

For the first hour and a half we had an awesome session of strength and conditioning training. I decided that since everyone was tired, we could slow things down and work on submission wrestling technique.

After a while, my fellow class mates started wanting to work on going for submissions and improving position. I was pretty hesitant since my instructor wasnt present but I agreed anyway.

Well it ended up being me vs Jeff for like an hour. I tapped him out 4 times via armbar, rear naked choke, guillotine, and a knee bar. He tapped me once by an ankle lock (which hurt like hell).

I guess he was getting pretty frustrated since he'd been a jiu jitsu practitioner for so many years and some little guy was tapping him out(im 5'8 155 lbs and he's 6'0 195 lbs.

I was about to end class and we were having one more grappling session. I caught hold of his leg and was rolling for a knee bar but in the process he grabbed hold of my ankle and heel hooked me almost immediately. I heard four distinctive pops. He stood up and let go of my leg and was clearly scared that he had broken my ankle or something. At first my ankle just felt a little weird and I didn't experience any pain at all. That would soon change however.

I probably got like 3 hours of sleep that night because the pain was pretty incredible. I went to the doctor the next morning and he told me that it wasn't broken but I had torn some ligaments and I would have to sit out of anything MMA related for a few weeks.

This SUCKS because I have a tournament in two months and every week of training is crucial. The more and more that I think about it I feel like Jeff did this on purpose because he was so frustrated at his inability to beat me. Ofcourse it makes me angry but at the same time really confused.

Why would he apply so much pressure to my ankle during a training session? It would be the equivalent of me hyper extending his arm when I had him in that armbar instead of just waiting for him to tap.

It makes me feel like really turning it on the next time we roll, not hurting him but just embarrassing the shit out of him. However, part of me keeps saying that (because of the way he reacted)it was just an accident and stuff like this happens.

Would you guys harbor ill feelings towards someone if something like this happened to you? Maybe it's just the upcoming tournament that has me stressed or something. No matter what happens I'm still going to compete in the tournament. I just hope that my ankle will heal as soon as possible.

day 1
A few weeks back I was at work and some Tank Abbot looking mother fucker walks in staring me down for about 10 seconds while he walked to the back of the store.(GNC) I looked at him awkwardly because I hadn't made any money from commission all morning and he looked like he wasn't going to buy anything.

I noticed that he was wearing a Muay Thai shirt and we immediately started to talk about MMA, the UFC, how scary Anderson Silva is, and so on. He then started talking about how he has trained most of his life in different aspects of martial arts.

He informed me that he was new to the area and was just starting up a class at a local gym but he had no students yet.

The next thing I know, I'm at the gym and this guy is pushing my around like I'm a 4 year old girl. It's only me and him because so far, I'm his only student. We start training and cover everything that he has to offer.

Knife fighting, Kali, Muay Thai, Wrestling, a little jiu jitsu, jeet kune do, and Boxing. This guy definately knew his shit.

I had so much fun because I had been a fan of the above mentioned for so long but I never got to put any of it into practice.

For two hours this guy basically gives me a brief overview of everything but doesn't really go too far into detail since it's my first day.

I went home, took a shower, and knocked out.

Now, I've always thought I was in pretty good shape but for the next few days, I was sore in muscles I didn't even know I had. I felt like such a chump.

Day two

Today I showed up and there were 5 other guys besides me and the coach. I was surprised that his class had already grown so much in such a small amount of time. I start talking to the guys in order to get of feel of who might be able to kick my ass.

These guys start telling me about how they've wrestled for most of their lives and used to be on jiu jitsu teams. One guy is all decked out with tapout shorts and some fighting school shirt. I start to feel like I'm going to be getting my ass kicked pretty severely.

Then a ray of sunshine appeared in the form of a middle aged overweight white guy. FUCK YES. A guy who's ass I can kick. We started training and this guy was terrible. I almost felt sorry for him. Then I thought of this quote fromm the movie Annapolis.

+ Show Spoiler +

I hope to god this guy doesn't quit.

We started doing a lot of different striking drills incorporating punching, kicking, knees, and sprawling every once in a while. It was tiring as hell.

Then we started to wrestle and I felt like I was going to die. I've never been this tired in my life. It didn't even seem like I was doing much but somehow my gas tank immediately went from 3/4's full to empty.

I suddenly got a flashback to all the MMA fights I've ever seen where guys gas out in the first round and completely understood their pain.

I had to start taking several breathers and wrestling quickly became me moving my arms around trying to control some guy while doing seemingly nothing.

All of this seemed to be only about 45 minutes tops but before i knew it, two and a half hours had passed by. After class I sat on the mats and just wanted to die. I've been through some pretty intense workouts but nothing comes near to being as brutal as that was.

Sitting there I began to look at the bottoms of my feet and I noticed that chunks of skin had just been ripped off. My coach told my I had been sliding my feet way too much and I need to start bouncing around more.

I have never felt more dead in my life. My whole body was completely sore. Today is my third day. I know I'm in for another session of hell, but I'm definately starting to like the pain.
