My RTS Journey
As a lover of almost all strategy games, RTS games tap into something deep inside of me. Starcraft 2 is a game I love, but it is just the most recent step on a long RTS journey. Those reading this certainly don’t need convincing as to the charms of RTS games, but the paths we have each taken to end up here on TL are very different. I’d like to share the path I have taken, wh...

The growth of the SC2 scene in recent months has been staggering. From the GSL in Korea, to MLG in the US, to Dreamhack in Europe, the scene has truly become international. As a fan, this is fantastic. But for a pro, it can mean a hell of a lot of traveling. Players like HuK and MC now seem to spend as much time airborne as they spend crushing nerd skulls. This is obviously not ideal, as i...

NesTea Fan Support Group (spoilers)

This is a support group designed to assist victims of the recent Blizzcon, GSL and MLG tragedies. For many, these events were simply too much to compute. Seeing Nestea, the Father of Kerrigan, collapse so absolutely, was unfathomable to those caught watching. Some fans even confabulated stories of match fixing to try to make sense of the horror.

Nestea had stayed strong through the incr...

After a bunch of pretty heavy analytical posts lately, I felt something a little less serious was in order. So, I present to you some of my recent creations in Paint - my graphics editor of choice. A couple of these have previously appeared in the MS Paint Rage thread, but the rest are new.

IdrA Rage

First up, here's a comic inspired by the infamous IdrA vs. Cruncher match from TSL3. :)

First thoughts on HotS

My first reaction on seeing the HotS information coming out of BlizzCon was complete and utter excitement. I watched the trailer three times in a row, each time looking out for new units and abilities. After this initial child-like glee, I put my analytical hat back on, and started to look at the proposed changes more critically.

Subtle Evolution of ZvT (Oct GSL spoilers)

I'm extremely glad I decided to buy the ticket for the October season of GSL. I always learn an incredible amount watching code S, and at a time when I'm looking to improve my Zerg play, this season couldn't have been more timely. Before the tournament inevitably spiralled into TvT oblivion, it delivered some of the most entertaining and sophisticated ZvTs I have seen in SC2.

I was so i...

There are many parallels between the games of Chess and Starcraft, most notably that they are both strategy games played at a highly competitive level. Chess is a tad bit older, with the modern rules being around 600 years old. However, the evolution of chess and its championship cycle has occurred on a much slower timescale than Broodwar’s, meaning their histories can be reasonably comp...
