Poll: What game should I play? (Vote): Dragon Age: Origins (Vote): Mass Effect (Vote): Borderlands (Vote): Fallout 3 (Vote): Other
So I've been bored and I just built my new PC three or four months ago and realized I have not put it to much use so I'm trying to figure out what game I should play. I'm not really interested in games such as LFD2 or MW2 because I've never really been good at FPS games when it comes to playing online so I only play older FPS games with my friends.
I've beaten Mirrors Edge on my PC and I have Prince of Persia, but I didn't find it interesting enough to beat.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dragon Age: Origins Review BioWare's latest masterpiece sets the epic adventure bar high.
You have to try this one out.

Other > DA:O > Fallout 3 > Borderlands > Mass Effect
You kind of have to say what "other" you've played for us to be able to suggest something that's not Starcraft. Genre? Tolerance for old games? etc.

Out of this list I've only played FA3 and DA:O, both were great. Highly recommended.

The entire Baldur's Gate series. You will not regret it. Widely viewed as one of the best RPG series ever.
|
Left 4 Dead 2... I've heard really good things about it, but I haven't played it myself.
|
I have heard/read that DA is decent/good.
But i would also recommand some older games:
- Civ 2 Civ 3 Civ4 - Baldur's 1+2+mods - Planescape Torment - Deus Ex - Sf3 third strike - Urban terror ( cool CS like Q3 mod but much faster ) - System shock 2
They are still arguably the best games in their own "genre".

I heard pong is a good game.

World of Goo.
Cheap and fun!

Port Royale 2, if your patient and can multitask.

No way man!!! Does it let me build nukes and stuff?

Jesus, don't play Dragon Age. I was watching a friend play, it's just a super-standard fantasy RPG with zero attention to detail. Some cool injury mechanics and whatnot, but really, there is nothing interesting or special about that game. If you want another RPG timesink to waste a few weeks go for it, but I like my games to be a bit more interesting and interactive :S

well i loved mass effect and am enjoying DA:O, but im easy to please i guess. was mirror's edge good?

BG series was good but Planescape Torment totally owns it IMO.

On November 30 2009 11:14 StorkHwaiting wrote: BG series was good but Planescape Torment totally owns it IMO. Totally different games imo. Torment has a really weak gameplay, fights are just bad and easy. It is pretty much all about the plot, the dialogs and the universe like in a great book. For sure it is unmatched in this three areas, but Baldur's Gate 1+2+mods is more balanced all around, offers some really good fights and epic battles and the game has a lot more content with a solid scenario ( ofc it is not as original and interesting than PS:T ). It is also easier to get into BG than into PS:T.
I love both but they are different and a comparison doesn't make a lot of sense. But i agree Torment is a real masterpiece.
edit: what's so great with Torment is that i'm still sometimes wondering about its "meaning". What can change the nature of a man ?

well to help...out of the four original games you were talking about....mass effect has an extremely cinematic style, and manages to make the in-game conversations very interesting. borderlands has a very diablo-like/wow-like feel with questing and such incorporated into a FPS. you'll end up finding epic loot and such and customizing your character with mods... fallout 3 is very complicated to explain...but if you've ever tried elder scrolls IV - oblivion, you can probably get a decent idea of what it's like. as for DA-origins, i don't know enough about it to say anything....

Dont pass MW2 and MW1 off as merely online games. I personally only play them for the campaign and they're amazing.
|
You can try the total war series. Wikipedia Link Official Link
Kind of a mix between civilization, and real-time tactics. I've really enjoyed the series, but stopped at Medieval 2.
|
I'm playing Dragon Age at the moment and I can tell you that it's worth playing. It's definitely challenging but the storyline is incredible so far. A must play.

But on a Starcraft fansite, you should know more than anywhere else that solid execution is more important than any gimmicky mechanics or "original" features. And that's what makes DA:O decent. It has a generic plot, but the writing is good enough to keep you going (unlike FO3 and Mass Effect, which have some writing that's just downright cringeworthy). It has pretty bland encounter design, but the fact that there are some encounters that are actually difficult is refreshing (particularly since every Bioware game since BG2 has been an absolute joke with regards to difficulty). Its character personalities are pretty by-the-book, but the banters and interactions between them are entertaining enough that they don't get bland.

Because I've already played many hours of SC and I'm looking for something new and different to play while I still play more SC!

The only PC games that I have played before are: Mirrors Edge, Prince of Persia (the latest one), Starcraft, Civ4 (didnt really enjoy it alot) and CoD 1 & 2. I will play old games, as long as they hold up decently like Starcraft.

Will definitely check them out.

Mirrors Edge was good in the respect that I only paid $10 for it, and I enjoyed it alot. I would have felt ripped off if I paid $50.

The Infinity Engine (at least the BG2 iteration of it) certainly holds up at least as well as Starcraft. I consider it the best RPG I've ever played.

You shouldn't be discouraged from playing L4D2 because you lack fundamental fps skills. L4D2 doesn't really require those skills, it's a game that hinges largely on teamwork, I'd highly suggest you try it.
|
Teamwork helps in Left 4 Dead, but being skilled individually means you can save people out of increasingly ridiculous situations.
|
If you like the post apocalyptic theme, I can tell you that exploring the Fallout 3 wasteland is a treat. I enjoyed every minute of it. Atmosphere is incredible :-) I'll also agree with TheYango's recommendation of System Shock 2, if you haven't played it yet.
|
Have you played Half-Life 1/2? If not, give that a try.
|
oh i forgot! you should consider bioshock since it's been out a while, and it might be pretty cheap.

Fallout three is probably the greatest RPG experiance out there right now, dragon age was cool and all, but doesnt hold its own to fallout

Dead Space or FO3, has finished all games in your poll these 2 games are the most memorable :D
|
Borderlands, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age were all fun but Fallout 3 and Dragon Age are significantly better. I looooove Bioware but I think Fallout 3 takes the cake.
|
Seriously though dude, DoW 2 is sick. I love it.
|
Every time time I see this question I'm going to recommend Fallout 3. Goddamn I love that game so, so much!

As far as which one is better, that comes down to preference: Fallout provides more content, but on the whole feels less polished (sloppily written dialogue, fighting in real-time has major issues, etc.).
