The Art of Cheese ... JUST KIDDING
Check out my previous 2 blogs about my journey to C! Part 1 and Part 2.
Okay, so 2 nights ago I played from midnight to 3:00 AM and holy crap I was on a shit streak ... with only 2 wins (1 of which was a decent macro game, and the other which was a 2 Gate cheese against a Zerg) and 13 losses, I was so frustrated I just stopped playing.
After getting my head cooled down, I decided to go do some iCCup related stuff, but not playing games. I went to become an ADMIN! I joined the iCCup Ladder Admins and currently I'm just a Trial Admin, but I'll try to solve all the TSL Manual Reports and Complaints I can to help everyone in the TSL out!
The next day I bounced back after watching some Proleague, eating some Jam-pong (짬뽕), and going on a very nice 12 win 1 loss hot streak. Man did I feel good, and I was soooo close to C but I ran into some problems and dropped again down to the 3500 mark.
After a few more games I finally reached C and the last 3 games that brought me up to C was a Cannon Rush against a Terran, another Cannon Rush against a Protoss, and then a final game where I went 2 Gate Tech against a fellow Protoss player. Who knew that Cannon Rushes worked on everyone!
+ Show Spoiler [Cannon Rush Against Terran] +Here we go! There's the Forge ... Cannon numero ONE! Cannon numero TWO! I'm surprised he said gg ... :D + Show Spoiler [Cannon Rush Against Protoss] +Terran ... Protoss ... they're all the same. Hopefully he doesn't come up here. Camon Cannon go down faster ... DUAL CANNONS!. Zealots + Cannons >> Dragoons. Wonder when he's going to leave ... He must be angry ...
Friendlies ...
What a random coincidence eh? I ran into a bunch of my friends over iCCup when they randomly joined my C-/C games.
Oh former university friend and fellow TL'er, how do you do! You still kick my ass in SC after 2 years.
Wasssup! It's been a while since we played but it was fun and just like 6 months ago, I still get owned by you ... I will get my revenge in the next Calgary LAN!.
Chill, Chill, Chill, oh how much I wanted to cheese you ... unfortunately I wanted to take a clean shot at getting a clean win and of course I got stomped, GG Chill!
Match Ups ...
Protoss vs Zerg (15 wins - 15 losses - 50%)
I'm getting better at this match up I guess. A couple of days ago, because too many people used the FE build I would always go 1 Gate Tech, but now I've gone back to the FE build. Now, branching off from the FE build I would go either DT + Corsair or Reaver + Corsair. I'm loving the Reaver + Corsair build, but it takes a ton of control and its do or die because I tend to lose my Shuttle every now and then. All in all, I'm getting better at this build but it's still hard with all the Zergs going 3 Hatch Muta into 5 Hatch Hydra.
Protoss vs Terran (23 wins - 20 losses - 53.5%)
Neo Medusa!!! Last week I would always play either Python or Destination. PvT was always somewhat hard for me on these maps but now a nice map where I can take a clear advantage early on in the game. 10/15 Gate! I'm loving this build on the map and it's done me wonders but I still screw up while micro'ing my Dragoons, so I'll have to work on that. PvT is improving, and it's still my second best match up.
Protoss vs Protoss (27 wins - 24 losses - 52.9%)
As usual, my best match up out of the three. Protoss versus Protoss. Again, Neo Medusa helps me out this week. PvP on this map is just straight 2 Gate and Manner the crap out of the other opponent. Technically, this is considered cheese, but once I hit 7 Zealots I tech up so that I won't be behind (plus my PvP 2 Gate'ing is getting ridiculously strong hehehe).
Analysis ...
If someone could help me analyze a few replays as to why I lost it would be awesome too. Need all the help I can get to improve my game. ^^
PvP - None PvT - None PvZ - None
NOTE: I'll add some once I get to school. Gotta watch the replays first and then upload the ones I don't understand.
Random Images from Games
Manner Nexus! ... 75Dtits says "ok" and leaves lolFinal Manner Pylon catches 5 Probes! I'm on my Admin account hehehe.
Conclusion ...
As I conclude this blog I am ranked 309th in the TSL Ladder Standings with 69 wins and 60 losses. Now it's that time again for me to try for the next rank. C+ here I come!
|
I like your perseverance, just don't be afraid to lose that rank and keep going!
Nice that your win ratios in all match-ups are similar... My PvP is currently a shocking 35% lower than my other 2 match-ups. Although I have to play more to know if it really is that much worse...
|
Damn congrats... just don't lose it now!
|
Don't worry about it.. Worry about getting better. And yeah, strange how your win ratios are so similar in all MUs.
Nice read and fun pics. Gl on the adminship, treat the community nice, thank you!

Congratulations! I really like this blog series actually. Gives me hope ^^. Looking forward to an entry on your quest for C+.
|
Well let me first say congrats, it always feels good to go up a rank. Don't stop playing, don't be afraid to lose C again to get better. Lose C today, to get C+ tomorow kind of thing?
And on the downer side... What's the point of getting C with cheese? Better to consider all wins with cheese to be losses imo. And I dunno about all those games vs D+s (and even Ds), what's the point of beating D+s? You already proved you can do that by getting C- (assuming you didn't play Ds to get C-...). And yeah you played a lot of games to get C, but didn't even go below 1:1 win:loss ratio.
I don't know if looking at your own replays can be that helpful at this level. Should be able to see a million ways you could have played better, a thousand things to focus on improving on. That doesn't help you all that much. Better imo to not worry about where you are currently and just focus on copying good replays of better gamers, and try to play by their standards instead of your own. Maybe you can go look for C+s willing to play you, or high Cs, players looking to get those last points to rank up and don't mind playing someone a rank lower, and then look at your replays. Seeing how you failed vs a C or C- isn't that impressive, hard to learn from that since your opponent is playing very poorly too; you could easily gain bad habits and ideas about sc that way. Better to see how you fare vs much better opponents, and then see what you could've done differently. And don't cheese them! Idea is to improve yourself as a player, not to get wins.

Want to play a few games and/or watch a few replays now?
|
Its 6:30 AM my time, I'm watching Heroes and trying to fall asleep since I got school in about 5 hours lol But I'll PM you when I can and hopefully I can catch you at a good time. Thanks!

I don't want to be an asshole, but reaching your goal by cheesing player two ranks lower than yourself is a tad lame.
Still, congratulations on your achievement!

Double post.

I kind of agree with Holgerius. IMO you cannot claim you are C rank when you played 90% against D+/D players (why would you play vs D players). More like you are still C- and just bashed your way up to C. Not that im trying to be disrespectful, but if you wanna claim C rank, then you need to beat pure C- players to get it. Beating d/d+ to get to C is only inflating your rank to something you might not actually have achieved otherwise.
Either way, to each his own.

Haha. 4-11 fighting C-, then 10-0 vs. D/D+ :/
Grats on C I guess :D

Good job! Nice to see other people getting somewhere while I stay in the lower tanks.

admining is boring no benefits or respect for such a tedious job
good job

convince the other admins that games where the player lost connection to the server, that it isn't impossible to award points for the match :[

hahaha "ok" Nice job.
Playing at night is a lot harder because that's when all the Koreans come out. The competition is noticeably more difficult.

Now to play just pure C-/C/C+ and see if I can reach C+

if you play c- to get to C+ you are just doing the same problem over. When you are C-, only play against C- and C. When you are C, only play against C and C+ etc etc.
I have a friend who I met 2yrs ago on iccup. I joined his game, and he was a really bad player. I think he was like 20-50 D rank. I showed him the basics, and we watched alot of replays together. Over the course of the nxt 2years he decided to ONLY play ppl that were better than him, and last season he was able to reach B rank. From low D to B rank simply because he refused to play anyone lower than him.
You should have that mentality, and improvement will come alot faster.

If you are C- and playing C, someone is a C playing a C- ?_?
Also your friend didn't get B "simply" because he refused to play anyone lower than him. You don't magically get better by being selective about your opponents.

Yeah and im not talking about his opponent who chooses to play lower ranks and not improve. Im talking about him. Where is the confusion in that? If a C wants to play him, then he should. What kind of argument are you even making?
My friend got to B rank because he chose to consistantly play better players, even if that meant losing 80-90% of his games. What do you mean being selective? He simply made his games, and tried to play everyone he could that was better than him. He GOT BETTER because he had the mentality to ignore the frustration in losing, and mass game against BETTER PLAYERS. What are you refuting in that?
basically what exactly is the point of your post? It didnt accomplish anything...the first part is pointless and deals with nothing I wrote to the OP. The 2nd part is retarded because you have no idea what you are actually talking about. Being selective and mass gaming against tons of better players are 2 different things, and seem to confuse you.

aww I joined your game but you were afk. Dodger! j/k
grats on C! Go for C+ now! :D
|
the 3 C- people u beat...2 were under 6 min games lol. U beat 1 legit C- guy in a real game. Ur like me im ranked C- but can only beat D+ people lol.
|
no wonder why u got all those loses, 9 of them were koreans, the next thing I know u post a pic of u doing a 12 win streak but where are the koreans there? none lol
|
Congrats, although it's kind of bad that you lost to TensorSpace during your 12 game 1 loss streak. He is pretty terrible, a shame to lose your only game to him ):

Jesung, what's with the secret account OMG! gj though.
GJ OP too. I knew once I looked at your matchlist you were going to catch heat, so I am not surprised at the comments here.

Oh you're onionrings. My friend played a pretty crazy comeback game against you. It was a PvT on python, at one point it was 100 supply to 60, then some imba stasis happen.
