Anyone interested in playing some fun games/testing games on MWS? Or if there are suggestions for other free alternatives I'd be happy to switch.
I used to play MTG a long time ago and I recently got back into it but I don't really want to spend a lot on cards so I was hoping some people might like to play on MWS. The interface kind of sucks but hopefully it's not too much of an issue.
MSN is the main online communication I use so add me if you like. MSN: m0k13 (at) yahoo.com
In this post http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=71979 is some information on MWS and how to get it set up. I'll go look for some recent links to give people and put them here in the OP when I find them.
MWS Previous MTG thread, you can find out how to install and use MWS there, like how to build a deck. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=71979
You need the first 2 things linked on this site. MTG Masterbase and MTG Themes. The Masterbase will give you all the card information up to the most recent set. http://www.slightlymagic.net/software/mws
Pictures You don't need to download everything here but just the sets you plan to use. For T2 Standard play you would want Zendikar, Alara Block and 2010 Core Set (left side of the webpage) http://mtgbr.com/mws/Full-01.htm

is MWS free and extensive?
|
Yes it is free. I haven't used it in a while so I don't know how updated the cards are.
|
What format are you thinking about playing? There's a free site that can generate drafts, my buddies and I do drafts from time to time with that site and MWS, it's pretty damn fun actually, and a really good way to practice limitted without spending $15 per draft
I'd be down for a draft over the weekend if you want. The site is http://ccgdecks.com/draft_gen.php Make an account and test it out with bots, it's got a cool interface.

Man, used to love this game. Until I got busy... :/

Does MWG carry Necropotence? God that's the greatest card ever created... I won so many matches with that lol.
Any way to get the full version for free? Evaluation sounds like a bitch compared to full version...
|
Oh yes, I forgot, I'm most interested in T2 Standard. Other formats have too many cards for me since I'm new to the game (relatively, haven't played since high school).
There used to be a post somewhere in the Sports & Games section with MWS information, I'll look for it. If I can't find it I'll recreate it.

:O Cool, thanks Gogo.
Meta, wtf is with that site? They seriously require you to confirm registration by fax and mail only? Sigh.

I really wish someone would make some new software though since it's kind of buggy and the base program hasn't been updated for ages and has like a 1999 interface design.

God FUCK MWS's randomizer. It ALWAYS clumps your lands in the most inconvenient ways.
|
Sounds cool. What edition(s) are we talking about drafting from? I'd definitely be up for some Invasion or Oddysey block (or earlier) action.
oh yeah, and it's called "Magic Gather". GET IT RIGHT.

I definitely did it with e-mail. Dunno why it's giving you problems.. it's such a sick draft generator, too. Full pictures of cards, you just click them and it passes the packs automatically.

Haha yeah, when i was playing with a friend we eventually spent the first minute of every game repeatedly shuffling the deck so that it would hopefully not be so ridiculously unplayable.

I don't know if anyones done any real analysis on MWS but I can't imagine their randomizer really being that bad. I recall getting mana screwed and getting land clumps in paper magic often enough that I think MWS is probably fine.

Damn Ima check this out and will probably end up playing

Used to play MTG and MWS extensively back when I was a teen. This is fun stuff but I don't think I'd play without my friends getting into it again. You're paying for cardboard :/

Did anyone play MTG back in Alpha/Beta? I still have 5000+ cards from back then. Full boxes of unopened Ice Age since they banned the entire set, never got to use them . I don't know ANY of these "newer" cards.

Sell that shit posthaste, no lie.

Ah, I was hoping this was going to be about the actual MTGO. Nevermind!
|
I prefer playing in real life, with real cards. I'm an active magic player since 2002 playing tourneys and drafts every week here at the locals stores in sweden. Would be fun to play some with TL members but MWS is abit... I would participate if there was some draft arranged by us on the Draft generator website, then play it via MWS. I think that'll be fun

Nobody wants to play some standard games?

I'm up for some standard, although if you're looking for practice against top decks you didn't come to the right place, because mine are universally rogue (and consequently horrible.)
The only decks I have that are not T2 are rotated-standard and a T1.5 fish deck.

I hosted a game on MWS; it should be obvious which one it is, if anyone wants to play.
But this limited time offer just ended. Alas.

yango are you up for a game?

I'm generally not fond of Standard in it's current form, though I might be interested if someone got a draft group together.

I'm up for some games today if anyones around. I'm in the #teamliquid IRC as gogokodo, or on MSN as in the opening post.
