List to do? - walk along Saigon river in the late afternoon... - visit Independent Palace or CuChi tunnel system to know how the US was beaten in Vietnam war - Try sauna service, bars. Most of them are located in district 1 and 3 If you have time, I suggest you go to Khanh Hoa which is not very far to the north, most of travelers go there because the beach is beautiful If you desire to contemplate the living of people on the river, then you might want to go further to the south, in particular CanTho province. Fruits there are really good too Too bad I am in Hanoi, cant help unless you manage to come to Hanoi

Because the pho here in Canada is good. And I guess I'm taking more about the quality/preparation of the pho when I mean better.

And I guess I'm taking more about the quality/preparation of the pho when I mean better. I have been told that there are hit and misses in Vietnam. Some places will over use MSG and some places will water down their broth to accommodate more customers. I feel that the noodle quality is what makes or breaks a bowl of pho.

2. If you don't have time to co go Cu Chi (as in economist's post), just go to the Vietnam War Museum at 28 Vo Van Tan St, Dist 1 3. Pho is alright, but that's not everything. There are tons of other stuff to try. Well, I'm kinda old school too since i haven't been in HCM for quite a long time but try the following restaurants - Quan Ngon (THIS IS A MUST) Address: 138 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Str., District 1, Ho Chi Minh City You could easily spend 1-2 days in this restaurant trying different kind of food - Ashima restaurant (Mushroom soup and all kind of fungus thingies) Address: 35A Nguyen Đinh Chieu St., Dictrict 1, Ho Chi Minh city. This restaurant is kinda new(?). I'll be been there just 1 time. Worth a try. - Lang nuong nam bo (all kind of bbq you can find in here including wild animal's meat, seafood bbq) Info: http://www.vnnavi.com/restaurants/langnuongnambo/en_index.html - Lau de (Goat meat on a stick lol) Address: Truong Dinh 105, Ho Chi Minh City Worth a try if you don't mind. They won't have english menu here so it may be hard to pick. Just look at other table's food and point at them LOL. Then on the course if you want more meat/veggies/noodle just ask the guy to bring up 4. Before you leave, explore Saigon at night, just walk around the downtown area (the area next to Ben Thanh market). Go shopping. Stuff are pretty cheap in here so you'd need to buy a bunch before going back (except shopping mall, you'd need to bargain pretty much everywhere, especially if the item doesn't have a price tag, just drop it to 40% and walk away, they will call you back lol) Will post more stuff when I remember.

PS: Who else is in VN around that time, I wonder. Edit: lol Cu Chi tunnel, why the fuck would anyone wanna go there and be prey to the legions of hungry mosquitoes? Been there once, will never go back. Don't recommend it to anyone. Fuck, if they want to make it a tourist attraction, at least fucking clean up the mosquitoes infestation god damn fucking it! Walking along the SG river? And inhale all the dust/smoke/smog? Not recommended!

But meh, learn some respect to that because it has historical value I mean when you visit a city, you should really visit teh river, if any, running throughout the city, its kinda good way to know how the city was formed and built. Maybe its just me lol w/e, have a good trip

I'll be spending a few months in Vietnam around July-September next year. My plan was to chill on the beach, live really cheaply and go to a café with wifi for my laptop to work a few hours a day. I'm really just there for the beach, the sun and the low prices. If anyone have some tips about how I can find cheap housing, please let me know. Also, cheap is the name of the game so what areas are the cheapest? EDIT: I apologize if I'm hijacking the thread but it is called Travel to Vietnam.

Lodging: you want to rent a room within someone's house. Generally you can get this in downtown of Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City) for like, hmm, around $100 (that's a cheaper rate than most). But if you don't need to stay in downtown, you can probably get a room for like $50 or less per month. But since you prefer the beach, you probably want to stay some where in Central VN (beautiful beaches, not too heavily populated, therefore much cleaner beach, and cheaper living expenses) such as Qui Nhon, Phan Rang, Nha Trang (actually I don't know about Nha Trang, it's a very popular tourist attraction, but still cheap compared to Saigon). Wifi Cafe's are plentiful no matter where you go, so you don't even have to worry about that. Cheap food: you have to rely on the locals for this one. If you're going to stay in downtown Saigon I can help you out, otherwise I don't know :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da_Lat very nice cool weather and winding roads on the way there. There's a place there considered to be the most romantic place in Vietnam there, forgot what it was called. and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nha_Trang nice clean beaches, took a boat to some of the smaller islands and was a lot of fun.
