I used to be able to get rid of them by holding my breath but it rarely works now. It only sometimes works when I hold my breath so long that it hurts and feels like I'm gonna pass out...and it only gets rid of them for like an hour at most. I just woke up this morning with hiccups and its lame cause I know I'm gonna have to deal with it all day during work and most likely tomorrow and the next day...anyone have any hiccup cures? I've tried everything.

Take a HUGE breath, I mean the MAXIMUM you can take in your lungs. Hold the air in and continue adding more air focefully by using your mouth as a pump: take a 'bite' of air and push that air to the lungs. Keep doing it until you start feeling uncomfortable. THEN HOLD for as long as you can! this has never failed me. let me know if it works for you, or if you need more clarification.

The other day at work I got hiccups and a friend there told me if I stare at one object and really focus on it, it would stop them. So I looked at the logo on the frame of the monitor in the office, and just focused on it and after a moment they were gone. I don't know if this works realistically or if it was just a coincidence but I guess it's worth a shot.

But hiccuping sucks man, the way I get through mine is i hold my breath and swallow three times, if i can without hiccuping through that Im usually fine.

true starcraft nerd . everyones got their own ways of dealing with hiccups, coming from my mom, and me, well, not her but yeah. Grab any fizzy drink, and take 9 quick sips, i guess what it does is causes you to hold your breath then something to do with the quantity of gas created by the drink, i dont f'ing know science about it, but it works 50/50 for reals. Try it, let us know. I've always used pepsi, i've got a pepsi mom. If ya'll know what them be.

If it doesn't work for you after, say, the twelfth spoonful, I suppose it might not work for everyone, and it might be advisable to give up.

like 6-8 years ago I had lung surgery and I got an episode of the hiccups the day after when i was in the hospital..worst experience of my life...everytime I hiccuped it ripped all the stitches...the hiccups were worse than the actual surgery and recovery pain lol oh and the most successful method I have tried is you drink as much water in a glass through a straw while plugging your ears and nose...it looks ridiculous but its the best method for me...but once again...it only works for a couple hours
