Falling a little behind on blogging now that I spend most of my free time watching WC. + Show Spoiler [England vs Germany] +
This happened a while ago, on the 12th of June to be precise. The sushi shop is called "Sushi Dai", and it is widely regarded as one of the top three sushi shops in the inner market (the other two famous ones are Sushi Bun and Daiwa Sushi). Have finally eaten at all these of these shops, my consensus is that Sushi Bun has the best sushi, but Sushi Dai has the most welcoming environment (and they allow pictures!!) I took the first train there in the morning, and arrived at around 5:30, and there were already two lines formed for this shop: the second line being the line for the first line (yo dawg, I herd you like lines). Waited almost exactly three hours before finally seated at about 8:30, but I thought it was totally worth it because the sushi pieces were very cheap for their quality.
Shop's sign.
The menu, hard to see at the reduced resolution. 11 pieces for 3900 JPY.
The line for the line.
The line.
The other store with the line is Daiwa Sushi.
Finally got seated... Ginger.
Miso Soup
This was the most interesting piece I had... ever. The surf clam was so fresh, even though it was already sliced up, some nerves were still alive. When the chef put lemon juice on the clam, it actually moved: mine clung tighter to the rice. Crazy.
Oo-toro. This was really really good.
Oh Hai~

Wow!

Good sushi is very good. You can really taste the difference between fresh fish and typical supermarket fish.

You are, of course, entitled to share your opinion. However, many people would beg to differ this statement, and I encourage you to try better sushi restaurants.

Farm raised and frozen against fresh from the local fish markets in the morning.
Im not a big fan of sushi and sashimi makes me feel sick, cant handle the texture of raw fish. Have you ever tried raw shrimp sushi? Specially the larger species.
|
I never had anything super large. Amai ebi is fairly common in sushi though.
All the white stuff on top are baby shrimps.
|
Damn that looks good. The presentation itself is much better than most of the local (probably not authentic but still love it ) stuff I've seen.
Wow 3hrs wait. I'm glad you felt it was worth it though.

Cambium. A little trick me and mom do whenever we eat sushi is, we eat the "raw fish part" but we never eat the rice so that we have more room to eat more of the good expensive part so that we get our moneys worth. I mean who gives a hissy hoot about the rice? What do you think about this?
edit: btw that shiit looks so good..im jealous

edit: btw that shiit looks so good..im jealous It sounds like you're talking about some sort of all-you-can-eat sushi places which will never have good sushi.

You'll run out of money before you get full.
|
Awesome buddy, that sushi looks absolutely delicious I wish I was there :D
|

|
that is so good Cambium! I hope I can visit Japan one day then you, mani and I can have a some bottles of beer :D
|
that clam one reminds me of the "san nak ji" or live cuttlefish
they pick up a cuttlefish, cut it up and serve it.
All squirming and moving on the plate :D
You can feel it sucking inside your mouth on your tongue and stuff Its really tasty though
On a side note, my uncle got one stuck in his throat and had to call ambulance He's okay though

Wow! That just makes me hungry... and I just ate Much like dudeman001. Oh, question, do you eat sushi with ginger AND soysauce? I mean, I used to hate ginger, but I can stand it now, so I do like a little with the sushi, but for something THAT fresh, I think the soysauce might take away from the flavor. :o thoughts?

i love your blogs cambium yumm

This blog inspired me to go out at 2AM and find some sushi. I came back with a chicken caesar wrap, mission failed.
|
Incredible blog. Lots of people have huge misconceptions about sushi and how it should be enjoyed... glad to see you doing it big!
|
Dude my favorite place is Yonehana. It's sooo cheap and the sashimi donburi is sooo amazing. 1,500 and the maguro is honestly just heavenly. SO AMAZING!
I leave Japan tomorrow but if I have time I'm gonna go eat there one last time before my flight.
|
I miss Japan soooo much , sushi is the shit.
|
Man, this is such an awesome blog. I'd like to go to Japan some day and try the stuff that you had. 5/5

I think this is a viable option at AYCE places that serve poor sushi, but it's an absolute waste with good sushi (and I am certain the sushi chefs will be offended). Aside from fresh fish, the good restaurants pride themselves with their quality rice mixed with just the right quantity and type of vinegar that they had perfected through tens of years of relentless endeavours in trial and error. The rice is arguably more important than the fish.

You eat it in between sushi pieces to cleanse your palate. It's like the Japanese version of sorbet. They are there to help you appreciate the unique taste of every piece.

Sorry, but raw fish is disgusting. People invented fire for a reason - to kill stuff with it and to cook said killed stuff later.
5/5 for the pictures though.
|
Are there 3 hour + lineups everyday for sushi places at the Tsujiki market or was it just because it was the weekend?
|
I've gone once on Thursday and twice in Saturday. They were equally as bad.
Most of those who go are tourists anyway, so I don't think which day of the week matters too much.
|
Ooo I've eaten here before! Not a huge fan of the baby shrimp one, but all the others are SO good.

The rice is key. The word Sushi refers to rice. taking the topping off a piece of nigiri and just eating that is incredibly disrespectful and you would get quite a few stares from the chefs if not thrown out in a reputable sushi restaurant.
|
what the fuck is that ? but i would love to eat it !
|
Fuck I miss tsukiji so much... I went for one final trip before my flight to Singapore but my favorite store was closed. And you can't get any really good Japanese food in Singapore.
|
I miss tsukiji sashimi too . giro san's restaurant is number one (in my heart)! madnessman hopefully we can go back in dec/next summer?! this is what i ate last time i was there... i took a picture cos i was thinking of making a food blog at the time but became too lazy
