So today I went for a job interview because I was looking to find a new job to replace my current one that obviously does not pay me enough.
I walked into The brick just your everyday Furniture and Electronics store, TVs and stuff.
I had a Interview with the manager of the place because my Mom knew the guy and said he was awesome and a gamer and stuff and i could be all chummy with him.
A couple minutes pass as I wait for him to come and see me and drop my resume off, He grabs an application and we sit down in the Dining room table section to fill out my stuff and talk. We talk about the know why do you want to work here? Do you know how we do things here? Just your regular interview questions. Suddenly I say ''So I heard you're into gaming and stuff what do you play''
He pauses for a second and says ''Well Age of empires 3, command and conquer 4-''
In my head I kind of just said, Pfft he plays RTS but not the best then suddenly he says ''but the best RTS ever is Starcraft BW and 2''
I look at him and go wow man me too, its like the best game ever. For a second another pause happens and he looks at me again and says, ''Team liquid?''
For me, those were the best two words I have ever heard in a Job interview ever. I sprung up and said ''Yeah man Team liquid'' and he sprung up as well, and suddenly...
We fucking High fived and it like freeze framed the moment in my head, I was so mind blown that this guy was actually apart of the TL community and loved Star craft.
After that we just talked about the job and stuff and he said he would call me in the next days he just needs to run the paper work through, So id like to thank all of TL for being awesome forever and getting me this job.
I basically went from being paid $1000 a month to $3500 to $5000 depending on how my sales go. Yay commission <3 Now i might be able to get enough money for college~
THANK YOU TEAMLIQUID<3333
Haha thanks guys, Thanks for the spotlight its like a little nubs dream come true!
I just kind of wanted to show you what kind of unexpected things can happen I mean, I think he was just as surprised as I was when Living in this dirt town thats doesn't be social or do anything to get the gaming community together here in Lloydminster and to actually run into one another, especially in a job interview lol.

There is no way a salesman at the brick is bringing home 7,000 before taxes each month. So he probably meant at most, $5000 before taxes, which puts you in a fairly high tax bracket, which further eliminates the money you actually take home.
I work construction, and make $6000 a month before taxes. They take usually around $1600 from that, which totally sucks.

The question is whether 3500-5000 has to be taxed or not. I assumed not (as in its 3500 after tax). If it does, then you probably get taxed 30-35%, so you send up with a bit more than 2k a month. That is still pretty good for a job that doesn't need a degree.

TEAMLIQUID! FUCK YEAH! what an awesome interview dude ^^

Nice one.
However, not to be bitter, but you *have* heard of stories about employees writing about their job experiences and get fired for it, right? In the middle/upper management point of view, the last person you'd want to hear *anything* about (unless required by the job) is word from their employees, especially without their consent. Whether or not it's positive, it's just unprofessional.
And to the interviewer, if you are in fact seeing this blog post: the guy was just enthusiastic about his.. possibly first job? Cut him the slack, slap his wrist for it and judge the person based on his work performance. I mean, I would be surprised if I met anyone in my work browsing on TL too, but I certainly won't utter a word to the public unless I quit/got fired.

Don't push people with AoE3 and C&C:4, if you say those games, you don't deserve to get the job. Good thing he let you finish (not Kanye style) with SC. Keep that boss, he seems to be patient enough.

Nice story.
Just one thing: should you ever get his TL or bnet or whatever ID, don't reveal it. If he wants it to become known he will reveal himself. If he doesn't want it revealed and you still do, you might be in trouble.

TL should implement some sort of secret handshake or signal or something. Making it easier to spot other enlightened TLnetters in RL. Maybe then we can have more moments like these.

Now that is fist pump worthy!

Lol I doubt I'm getting popular, This blog will last till the end of the week and then some other guy will come around with something that tops this. I'm quite generous and I was thinking about Sponsoring a tournament or 2 with a couple hundred dollars once i start work, I really really want to support this community and have Starcraft take over the world <3TL<3

This is very good for you and everything, and I'm very happy for you. But there is a problem here. You are saying that you got the job because of the common interest in SC2/BW/TL, this has nothing to do with the job you will be doing. There are people who are more qualified in that position, maybe more experience, maybe even schooling, who knows, but you are taking the job from people who deserve it more, just because you found a common interest with the hiring manager. It doesnt seem fair in the work world. Like I said it's nothign against you, I'm happy for you, but thats a problem
|
Community, that's why it's awesome.
|
TL = makeing sc ballers real life ballers..
|
Just be careful not to bad mouth your boss or coworkers on here like a lot of other people do. Because that wouldn't go well.
|
I'd be scared if my employer knew I was on TL, I don't remember most of the things in my post history, it'd be like them scoping my facebook. Grats to you though, I've had fantasies about getting a job with starcraft.

It's safe to assume that such a person is smarter than average, and probably loyal, non-conformist, appreciative of real values etc etc.
