I will not buy SC2.
Yes I am sane Yes I am a massive fanboy Yes I have followed Professional Starcraft for years Yes I was on top of everything when SC2 was announced Yes I have a copy of every singe video released by starcraft2.com, in HD and Yes I was there (me + 5600 other ppl) when Naz streamed the first footage of the BETA.
You may be wondering why I would do away with my sanity and not buy this game. Why the fuck would I not get what I have been actively dreaming about for the last three years?!?
Because there are other things in life that are more important, and If I got this game I know I would spend too much time playing it to the fullest and not meeting new people, and not actually working.
I do the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma. Its a two year course, I've just finished the first year. So no, I will not buy SC2 (I will play on a friend's cpu tho.), I will go out and buy it the day my exams finish, on the 26th of May, 2011.
Wish me luck

good luck getting anyone to reply to this appart from me :D:D:D:D::D

resistance is futile.
if you don't buy it this week you'll just buy it next week.
but I wish you gl hf either way.

OMG sc2 is sooooo fun! I feel so sorry for you right now. The campaign is soooo intense. This is definitely the best game to ever walk the earth!
|
I hope it is harder than the French bac :D
edit: just checked on wiki, not related at all lol. Well i mean it seems harder.
|
Ambitious goal. I'm impressed you have the determination for that. Guess what, I'm not buying SC2 either. For me, it's partially cuz of the the cost ($60), and partially cuz of the same line of reasoning as you (" there are other things in life that are more important,"). I know if I get the game, my grades + social life will suffer since I have little moderation when I game, because I would want to stay competitive.
|
Wtf you're a hero. Really. I'm proud of you somehow..

It's ironic of you to say that seeing as how you can't play until 12pm PST
Best of luck to you but I don't see why you would miss the greatest game in the 21st century.
|
You are a good man. You know what is truly important
|
why not just limit your self to an hr or a few games a day, i think you should be able to balance both.
|
I got a 39 in Full IB (with two sevens in mathematics SL and physics HL) without doing much at all... Although I respect your determination, I don't think SC2 is going to ruin you that bad... then again, different strokes for different folks.

IB is bullshit, you can play SC2 and do it simultaneously, just get SC2 =P
|
I'm not getting it either, $150+ for some campaigns not worth it . Also I don't really like it, so that works out fine for me, but man it's going to suck to be you for a year
the greatest game in the 21st century.
heh

Believe me when I way this has been one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in the very long time. Imagine all that anticipation, all that pent-up energy you generate thinking and daydreaming and even dreaming about something, and then you need to give it all up.
I've had to let go, just completely let go, surrender and abandon my expectations and fantasies, because otherwise they'll consume me. I'm not boycotting, I have saved up for months to have enough to pay, but now I just don't need it anymore, and that's the most relieving sensation.

Good luck man. However meeting ppl is a bit overrated......
|
? IB isn't that much of a time consumer to be honest. Maybe it is batshit hard in Switzerland but in USA I didn't feel it was that much difference from AP. ofc our standards are lower so maybe thats it.
|
Yep playing can be shit too, when you think of the time spent to it. GL
And yeah ofc its possible to do the diploma and play at the same time, but those aren't the only 2 thngs in the world folks
|
Self control, good man.
The next challenge is balancing and managing your priorities so you dont have to neglect things you've been "dreaming about for 3 years."
|
I was going to hold out a few months. As much as I love StarCraft and really want to jump into the campaign, it sickens me that they're charging $60, when they really have no reason to; especially since I'm not going to be playing much multi player.
But my good friend informed me a few weeks ago that he had a copy just about paid off for me, and well, I'm not going to turn that down. >_>
I'm going to be beyond pissed if they try to milk the full $60 for the expansion packs. Even $50 would be pushing it in my mind.

I tried to tell myself the same thing. Sadly I am not strong enough. ;~;
|
lol IB highschool isnt even important
I'm not buying it either though
|
I also am not buying SC2 yet:
I'm starting college in the fall, so I wanna get used to that first. I also need a computer that can handle the game. I am short on money. I'm spending all the money I have on college stuff. I want to see how the pro-scene develops first.
And I can just watch video of the campaigns on youtube, hopefully! :D
|
IB oh good days! Good luck with it, did you get your predicted grades yet?
|
=)
I respect you and you are awesome!
Now never go on Teamliquid again!
|
best of luck dude! i can never do something like this! even though i need to pull up my grades...arghhhhhh
|
You can not fight the urge! Resistence is futile :D Gl anyway with your decision.
|
The OP has both those and my respect for putting his life before a video game.
But I'll be balancing both, carefully.
|
meh, I don't think you are gonna last more than a month
|
gl man, if those are ur reasons you are not insane.
|
Some people just don't have the strength to resist certain temptations.
Props to you for realizing you wouldn't be able to handle it and taking your actions accordingly.
|
IB/AP isn't that bad honestly. Oh well good luck OP.
|
IB s suck ass mine was useful in college cause it said i was good in English i got a 6/7 so i didn't have to take an equivalence test. The rest pretty much sucks balls cause you cant use it for anything else, unless you get a 40 something which is not a huge deal either. LoL IBs just waste your time in High-school, college is 10 times harder and more fulfilling.. The pride you have in doing it will go away once you are already in college. Have fun in Highschool fuck the IBs..
|
I applaud that you have the self discipline, but i would advise you to play the Single player on your friends computer. I personally know that if i had to wait a year to play it, the campaign would not be as good. It will be spoiled by then and that just seems very depressing.
Any ways, good luck and i will just have to ladder 2x as much for you!
|
Just wait until expansions come out. That's what I am doing.
|
To each his own. Good luck.

i'm not getting it because i don't have the money wtf. plus hello college and hello bw > sc2

I don't get how people don't have enough self control around a game :/
|
@count9 some just dont have a backbone - translated into (because you are from China) - having self discipline. Self discipline you only get by going through things you dont want to do. And some people only do things they want to do, so accordingly latere in live they have a severe lack of backbone.
But i guess in China you do all kinds of things in school that helps on the self discipline right?

LOL what?

LOL IB is such a joke Seriously... all it did was make me hate school. I don't think I learned anything that I've applied to my university courses that I wouldn't have if I wasn't in IB.

I'm not saying you're being racist, but that's soooooo stereotypical >< (though probably true anyway)
At first, I thought the OP was being silly and would buy the game soon, but I reread the date, and it's almost a year ahead...ouchies. I wish you luck. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get SC2 either, though I want it REALLY FREAKING BADLY.

But i guess in China you do all kinds of things in school that helps on the self discipline right? I dunno, I left China after 2nd year of middle school (8th grade, I guess that'd be like junior high in US) and went to school in U.S. so I've had both eastern and western schooling. There wasn't really any special self discipline or anything, just a lot more competition. Every grade was posted on the wall and the smartest students got red badges & stuff and the worst students got brown badges, so basically unless you want to look like a dumbass you kinda just know when to stop playing and start working.
|
If you have any ability to discipline yourself at all games and school are not mutually exclusive. In high school I took a schedule equivalent to or harder than an IB diploma, swam 2 hours a day, and still had time to watch a season of House a week. High school just doesn't take that much time.

The man who wrote this blog has so much more self-restraint than me.
I wish you the best of luck, dude. Hope to see you playing when you finish that IB :D
|
Good luck dude, I'm really proud of you for being able to hold your urges
|
You arn't actually NOT buying it. You just arn't buying it right now.
|
I am not buying this for kind the same reasons, it just eats too much of my time(that and bnet 2.0), maybe after a few months I will have more free time to play, but for now, no SCII for me
|
He'll probably cave. Anyone can say they aren't going to do something...but we'll see what happens a month or two from now.
See you need a reason like me for not buying sc2...something more resilient and sustainable against your insatiable urge to buy the game of your dreams. My laptop doesn't support the min system requirements. Game fucking over.

Same here, but different reasons.
