Hey everyone, Ryan the Protoss player from NOVA here... I have recently been questioned by people from various streams as well as my own streaming (I work for IcCup TV and stream/cast my own laddering as well as tournaments for them)about the potentials of giving lessons.
My response: I'd love to, I love the sc2 community and getting involved with it any way possible.
So here's what I'm thinking, I'm curious to see what public response of this would be, but here is what is going on so far.
Actual Lessons would consist of 1v1 time (I play Protoss only so sorry for players of the other race, unless you have questions about playing AGAINST Protoss players) with myself with voice communicaton (preferred) via skype, vent, whatever.
However, after the lessons are even over, I'm more than happy to give out my personal MSN, as well as giving out my own replays, analyzing the person getting the lesson's replays, and playing casual 1v1 games on my own spare time without any payment required.
A little about myself via a SC2 Resume, here is a list of my current SC2 Accomplishments:
Ryan “Ryan” Rushia
21 Years Old
Been in Diamond ever since it was incorporated
Played in ITL’s 9 through 12 (record 2-2 in 4 series)
Played in OMFG.fm invitational Beta (Lose 2-3 to QXC)
Played in Big.TV Invitational (Won 2-0 to SlaineD)
Played in OMFG.fm Invitational #1 8/6/10 (Won 2-0 to Attero)
High Ranked Diamond
2100 Protoss
Invitational player to both MLG Dallas and MLG DC
Unrelated to SC2 but related to lessons: I'd like to compound on what NzaR nicely pointed out. I am going to school for teaching in real life and therefore feel that I can effectively get what I mean to players of all levels and ages!
Please feel free to post back questions/suggestions/feedback ... it is greatly appreciated!
CHECK PAGE 2 for Youtube recording of the hour-long lesson between myself and FuriousJodo which he so kindly recorded/put on Youtube for me. Big thanks to him for that!
On August 07 2010 09:26 RyanRushia wrote: My big thing is that initially, before I get reviews and feedback from those who have taken lessons, is that the first hour of lessons will be completely free with no strings attached. After the culmination of the hour, the person is able to decide if they want to continue taking lessons sometime (which would take place any time the person requested), as well as having the choice of simply walking away and all I would request is a review of how the hour went. This would go for as long as necessary, until it is either abused, or people see reviews and no longer deem it necessary.
Should be more clear on that part or you're gonna get yourself into trouble.
If you would like to help me out a little bit cause to be honest i'm a noob. But i really like to become a better player that would help me out alot. I'll hear from ya .
Hey there Ryan! If you would ever do lessons on EU I would like to know if you could help me with Protoss from beginning basically, I've mained as Terran for whole beta and a little into release and am now thinking of changing to random, which means I have no experience playing Protoss. Maybe it would help alot having you helping right from the start. Kind regards! // Amm
Just finished a session with Ryan and it was actually pretty awesome. Ran me through a few things that I didn't even realize I was aware of, brought in a friend to play against me and observed to notice things while we were playing. First time I have ever really had anyone try to teach me the game rather than just play with me, and I am really satisfied with it.
I am low platinum Protoss at the moment, and obviously 1 hour isn't going to make me the most gosu player ever, but I think in that hour I definitely learned a few things that will help me out on the ladder.
I'll probably be hitting up Ryan for some more time in the future.
Thanks Ryan! Great coach, very helpful and a cool guy as well. Would certainly recommend.
Hey everybody, FuriousJodo recorded our one hour lesson together and put it together on youtube and is allowing me to post the links here... so if you're interested but still unsure feel free to check them out and you can see for yourself what goes down!
- Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Post Lesson 1v1 Observance/Explanation
Entire thing is about 1 hour, a little more perhaps... Big thanks to Furious Jodo for this!
I just finished my lesson with Ryan, and I thought it was really helpful. While I was playing in the practice games, he was able to express his points in a clear, concise manner that didn't feel intrusive to my playing. After the games, he went into more detail about what went wrong during that game, and provided specific examples of how to do it better. He finished the lesson by giving an overall analysis of strengths and weaknesses in my playing, and how to go about improving them. He's very open to questions during the lesson, as well as taking it in a different direction if you feel it would help you more. I would highly recommend him to anyone who feels their play is lacking, or could just benefit from an outside point of view.
Just finished lessons with Ryan really helpful and really good guy. Biggest thing for me was not just the strategies that he covered but really helped me to see the other holes in my game that I need to improve on. Was understanding that I am a gold level player looking to improve aswell. Will be doing future lessons with him for sure.
Ryan really helps u with learning ur mistakes and giving smart adivices so u wont make the same mistakes again.. he also helps u finding ur weak spots and improving ur strats.. and he has the sexiest body on the whole sc2 scene
hey everybody, i went on a brief hiatus as i focused primarily on playing, however I'm back and offering up lessons again please feel free to PM me or message me at RyanNOVA.183 on battle.net
Ryan is very easy to learn from and he gives great advice to help improve your game. With his thorough analysis of replays to help pinpoint your weaknesses and flaws you really get alot out of the information he gives. Sometimes you just need another perspective, another eye to be able to notice where you are going wrong with your strategy or mechanics, and Ryan is great at that. Can recommend anyone that is looking to get some coaching to contact him.
I am a gold (although hopefully diamond soon) Protoss player. I just had a lesson with Ryan and I must say I am very pleased. Ryan was incredibly friendly and you can tell that he really wants to help you improve. Setting up a lesson time was also incredibly easy to do; he really makes himself available for coaching. After just one lesson I can already tell that my PvT win ratio will increase drastically in the next few days. I had no idea who many little (and big) things I was consistently missing each game until ryan pointed them out. If you are a protoss player looking for lessons from an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and easily approachable person I would highly suggest that you get in contact with Ryan.
