haha...dodge skills. Hopefully he doesn't go to TL! xD
|
true story, for some reason all my irl friends suck whatever games but my onlines friends are gosu's
|
My irl friends in high school were mostly scrubs at BW, while my university friends were pretty pro. Just wait till you get to uni/college
|
I'm 21 yo.
And I asked him if he reads TL and he didn't know it stood for teamliquid and said he doesn't come here. Sucks for him, but oh well.

Same. All my high school friends who play sc2 are terrible and don't even know tl exists, but the people who ive met in college that play sc2 are pretty gosu.

I suspect everyone who consistently spends time on TL has this problem.

Instead of dodging them, teach them how to play
You'd do yourself and them a favor by doing so
|
First step to become gosu: - Make an account on tl (YEAH!) Second step: - Do not read strategy forums Third step: - Try to get crushed and learn from your flaws
You have now made it into diamond league. Tell the above to your RL friends And ask them again if they know what TL stands for.

sometimes people dont want to listen/learn, or they just dont care.

He is having fun playing and that is all that matters. I'll play with him when I'm in a good mood and don't give a fuck. There is no reason to try to force someone to turn something they do for fun in to something they have to work at. I think he's at the point where he has plateaued and thinks he's pretty good and is having a ton of fun and if I start trying to teach him how to play 4 srs that he will see the huge hill in front of him and it will become daunting and make it a significantly less enjoyable activity.
Also this blog was pretty much an excuse to post No Scrubs in relation to playing video games with Scrubs. Calling people scrubs is probably one of my favorite things.

i know exactly how you feel. All my RL sc playing friends are pretty much scrubs. With my good friends it doesn't bother me we can just have fun, but like, the friends you dont see too much, those ones, god its painful. My cousin is ALWAYS asking me for games. Eventually i just deleted him from real friends and said i wasn't playing sc2 anymore rooflll

Sadly I know how you feel. I have one good friend who is pretty decent at SC2. We talk strategies and try different things. Everyone else complains or MASS VOIDRAYS ZOMG, which is pretty depressing.
Chin up, though. You're on TEAMLIQUID! There are plenty of people here who can play.
|
This situation could possibly become quite enjoyable for you. Slack off during the placement matches, get placed in bronze, then feel good slaughtering nerds with your bad friends.
|
All my IRL friends are terrible too. When I look at my friends ladder list all my IRL friends are at the bottom (most are bronze leaguers if they've even played 5 placement 1v1s) and all my TL friends are in diamond.
|
I don't get invited to play 3s or 4s with my IRL friends because I rage so hard. They just don't understand that 1 base 8 warpgate or 1 base hive is not viable.
|
lol wow, is it weird that all (most) of my irl friends are v.good and around diamond ish if they bother laddering. They just muck around with sc2 1v1 and team games for reals. But they're game sense and shit are phenomenal when they DO 1v1. =S they don't even know abt TL, unless they're trolling me lol
the only ones I got in silver and gold are the ones I dragged to start learning the game. And even they are improving leaps and bounds (ty TL)

My one friend who is decent in comparison to the others has made platinum. When he has issues he asks me what he should do so I try and advise him to use liquipedia and watch replays (his own and high-level ones) and watch Day9. Needless to say he never does any of these things and then whines when he gets stomped by players with actual gameplans.
The other day he asked me what to do in TvP and I suggested he try using ghosts. 20 minutes later he comes back and tells me that ghosts were crap and he has no idea why I would suggest them. The problem was.....HE MASSED GHOSTS.

So do some 1v1s between you guys while the others watch and they can learn.

But I did try to give the same point although I worded it in another way :p

Im the same way. Everyone i know IRL is god awful. Except my one buddy who's fairly high plat. He gets really frustrated though. Especially when we 1v1 and i beat him with my off races. Even in 2v2 which i just play for fun, but since he and i got into diamond he takes it seriously. Ive met one person outside of LAN events who was better then me at brood war. He told me at a party or was A- iccup and in ToT. Naturally i knew he was full of shit. I never called him on it, looking back i kinda wish i had, its not like i talked with him much anyways
|
My real life friends arn't bad, but their friends are fucking god awful. When ever they are on they want to do 3s and 4s and it makes me cry. Simple solution, I just refuse to play anything but 1s and 2 arranged 2s.
|
lol
i remember when i used to spend days watching FPVOD, replays and reading strategies on broodwar and staying up late to play with koreans on west server to be good.
i even learned korean to join a korean clan. i managed to get into 2. [M2M] and BaDa)
[M2M] disbanded before 2 of our members went on to be progamers. you may know one of them as u-238[gnh]. he joined [gnh] after m2m disbanded.
i wasn't the BEST player around but i managed to hold my own against the higher end korean players on west server.
long story short.
my friend who used to play money maps on broodwar is 2-0 against me in sc2 lolllllll
i dont know. i just cant beat him. but thats probably because i haven't read a single strategy or watched a single replay or FPVOD or watched a day9 daily.
i'm just playing off intuition. i'm diamond in everything except 1v1 which is silver!
to be fair though; i guess my life has more important priorities when you get older and when my aim is "not" to become a competitive gamer.
|
Just tell them that they're bad and you don't really want to play ranked games with them. That's what I do. If you play unranked games with your friends, though, it's still fun and it's also extremely easy. I've played 3v3s and 4v4s in customs where I basically killed all four opponents by myself.
|
Eventually, you should get placed into a low league. I have a bunch of bronze-gold friends and I just offrace and try funny strats with them in the lower leagues. Basicallly the entire time, I just talk with them and sometimes the other team. Don't take the games too seriously and just pretend like you're hanging out with them. Losing really shouldn't matter as your points are separate for each team. I play 2v2 on a much higher level with another diamond friend, and I appreciate both.
But if you don't really like them irl, just dodge lol.

I was introduced to BW by my highschool friends, and went to a few LANs at my friends house. Theres a group of about 5 of us who play Gold and above, myself im usually up top 20 in Gold, my friend is plat, another mid gold, mid gold, and one just bought the game and he played in beta with us. I graduated this last year and am attending a community college, but i have an old friend whos going to Brown, and he has a Korean roommate....FFFUUUUUUU is he good lol.

My roommate (who has been a good friend of mine for 8+ years) and another friend play sc2 and are actually pretty decent. Both high gold...could probably hit plat if they laddered 1's more but they both like 2v2/3v3/4v4 more which is fine. Proudest moments in recent history is both of them linking me tl threads on separate occasions...seeing www.teamliquid.net... in a link from a friend...so much happiness.
Edit: also hurricane is a scrub.
