Where are you currently deployed/have been deployed? 1. They just kind of put you where they need you the most based off what job you've chosen. 2. For me in the NG, maximum is 365 days, but it can be extended if needed. 3. I'm on my 5th month. 4. Commanding officers, heh.. the whole military is like one big family after basic really. Just make sure you stay with your customs and curtsies though. 5. Hmm really I fear that when I get back home, I'll be disappointed in some way. 6. I would say the training is both 40% physical and 60% mental. 7. This is my first deployment, in Camp Buehring, Kuwait / Iraq. EDIT: do you think you're the baddest man on TL.net? There's 4 levels of combatives courses, I'm currently level 1, and all that is, is basic how to defend yourself, and submissions on the ground. I know that level 2 is strikes and kicks and more advanced submissions. How intense it is, is how intense you make it really, and the exercises you have to preform for combatives and rolling on the ground and a clinch drill at the end of it to get your certification for level 1. And Probably up there in the top 15 of one of the BAMF on TL. It's fun, you meet new people from around the states. On January 08 2011 15:09 sob3k wrote: How long have you been in? deployed? What are (in your opinion) the pros and cons of Army service? Pros, are definitely the free money I receive for college and my deployment so far, it'll be a big help for when I go into college next year. You meet a lot of new people make a lot of new friends. You get paid 24/7, So in reality I'm getting paid to work out, browse teamliquid, play starcraft etc ;p. You get really fit as well if you keep up with it, which is always a plus. Also being in the army is an instant confidence booster, and +1 to charisma when being around women ~ Cons, you're away from family, friends, and doing what you love to do on your own time a lot. But it pays off when you finally come back home. That's all I can really think of. I do really miss playing the hell out of sc2/sc:bw and other blizzard/console games

Thinking before and after military (I know you're not finished yet, but it's not like you haven't started), are there any detectable changes you can perceive about how your mind operates and how you think? What are the biggest changes to your psyche that have occurred as a result of the military.\ Has your stance on certain universal issues/situations (war/violence/pre-emptive attacks/terrorism/counter-terrorism [yea I know it's a narrow question]) changed since? How? In Switzerland we have mandatory military service. Do you think this is a good idea? Why should I go through it instead of paying maor tax untill I'm 50?

Not every soldier goes around shooting terrorists 14 hours a day, he's stationed at his base and he just goes about his daily business, he wouldn't be scared for his life, he's not killed anyone and he doesn't do things you guys see in rambo movies.

Hmm to get in shape for basic i recommend a low number of push ups, sit ups, and a slow 2 mile run maybe not even 2 miles. Do them in the correct form/pace! That would be to begin with, then gradually work your way up. If you can start high go for it but you need to be able to do 42 push ups if you're in the age category that I am in (18-21), 53 sit ups and a 2 mile run in 15:52 or :56 one of those two. I didn't want to fully commit because then SC would of been gone out of my life for a long time. Along with family/friends as well as my current GF. Some people want to join because they have no other career choice to go to, they didn't plan their futures out enough. You sleep all they way through high school and you get out and you have no plans. For others they planned to do it for the experience, to get away from home, from life, or to say you've done something. Hmm most my fellow buddies are college graduates, or just out of high school, Being from NH, i think we have only 1-2 African Americans, and the rest are white. I have no asians . But holy hell some of them smoke one every hour or less. Umm their communication skills are probably on par with good players but I think they would put to much thought into it and hurt them selves and fail.
