Oh wow, these are fantastic. Really like the flavour on a lot of the cards, they do a great job of reflecting their namesake. I haven't followed MTG seriously for many years but I'm already itching to make some decks if this set gets fully flushed out :D
Lots of really hilarious cards. I liked the "An Odd Day At TL" where on the side panel it was "Artosis v tdot" grudge match. The graphic for Tastetosis was also very nicely done. Charlie Murphy even got a card lol.
This is SO AWESOME! Wow I wish I had the grit to print, cut, and sleeve these things. Seriously pro, I love it. The Tastosis card is actually a really sick ability! Well done sir! 5/5
Very nicely done, great cards and loving the flavour even if I (regrettably) don't get all of them as an occasional lurker.
Are you going to expand on them and if so, would you like some suggestions? With the theme stuck in my head for the rest of the day(/week) I might come up with a couple
Holy Shiezer that is wicked sick! I'm in love, thanks Trozz, good thing this is featured ^^. I have no idea how to play Magic, I can still discern epicness when I see it.

should be red or black imho, as it is and aggressive statement coming from an aggressive player (naniwa) with a destroying/nullifying outcome.
most cards are truly great. maybe my playing days of MtG are way behind, but isnt it like if you have enough mana you could play cream of wheat all day and get it back every time?
Hahahhaa, was laughing all the way through reading these cards - Good choice of colour for many of the players as well, though I think Idra should be red more thank black. White-Ra was spot on, as well as the homage to many legendary threads. Excellent work :D
The competitive magic player in me is sad that only Apologise, Tastosis, TLO, Incontrol and possibly Jinro are actually good cards. Although why does day9 pay 10 mana to do basically nothing...?
I absolutely love the Cruncher design. If you sink some mana into him he kills players much better than him. That Archon heart pic looks cool too, I'd never seen that before.
This is amazing, haven't played magic since Alara but I can see that much thought was put in the balance and how it encourages the creation of interesting interactions between cards. Not to mention the awesome work in putting together every single card with flavor texts and art sources!
I wish I had friends who played Starcraft with enough TL background and knew how to play magic at the same time, this really looks like awesome fun.
A few titters were had. There's only one card that must be made: Funday Monday. It would have to be a red enchantment that allows the caster to choose one rule when it comes into play that each player must follow as long as Funday Monday remains in play.
This is amazing; as someone who still has shoe boxes in the closet from high school, and as a SC fan. Great work. The depth is fantastic, and I could see these cards actually working.
You've got some really solid card designs here, and the theme is badass, of course.
I have to assume you've been to Mark Rosewater's design column about being the lead on MTG these days. If you haven't, watch for when they run the card design contests where the top prize is becoming a card design intern. I think you could make a run at it!
My favorites:
Temp Ban, so clever
Tastosis Casting Archon is a delicious power card, and elegant
Call of the Noobthulu is both hilarious and totally usable, it'd be in every red deck I'd make
Liquid'TLO seems a bit too hairy for anyone less than hardcore MTG because in the right hands it'll be tearing people up... and it is probably the card disign best married to its theme! TLO is so nimble and unexpected!

Liquid'Ret, excellent creature design
Only after reading Liquid'Ret again did I realize how brilliant it is. Ret is the ultimate defensive player; he's not inclined to attack. + Show Spoiler +
Also, after ret deals damage to the opponent, he macros up.
This is so ridiculously amazing. From the time I "played" (barely) Magic ages ago I even know that these are pretty well-structured and the effects are very well chosen and make thematic sense.
I've only looked at about half of them (about to drive to see the family for the weekend), but I'll check the rest out later!
P.S. Laughed out loud at the DJ Wheat speech bubble.
This is too good for me to say anything else. Gz on 1k posts as well ! I admire the effort of doing such a work. Now the question: Will be there a physical version of this epic magic cards ?
This is actually amazing, one of the best things I've ever read on TL, this must have taken forever!
I'm also impressed at how relatively balanced all these cards seem which is a feat in and of itself... I might need to get these printed and play although I would need to find someone to play with who would find these as funny as me...
This is amazing. I live by 3 comic book shops that all have FNM running weekly. I haven't played Mt:G since the Odyssey block, but I used to do tournaments every couple of weekends and I'm always tempted to stop in and play...
All the pros should be legendary.. InControl should clearly have trample/rampage and be of type 'bear pro'. In fact just overwrite force of nature with Geoff.
0: inControl makes gretorp miss the point of a joke for 1 turn.
We have to be able to think up funnier things for The Gracken.
Pretty cool stuff. Reminds me of the Un- sets that they used to put out. Would like to see this even more developed though. Wish I was in on all the jokes contained in the set though....
Awesome. I'll make another green deck. My Troll Asectics were SICK. My whole green deck could not be targeted by spells my opponent controls. Might of oaks on a troll asetic = gg

It did at one point. It made the token look bad, so I removed it.

I have one thing to ask though - are you trying to get it balanced, or is this purely for the sake of epicness ?
I will add more cards. I'll also tweak the old cards. I'll strive for balance.

Kitchen table, dawg. Maybe when the set is done, we'll go digital.

Thanks for your post here. 10 mana could be too much. It's to prevent mill.

Oh right, macs exist. You can unzip with winrar. What can a mac use?
Is that a pic of hyunjoon in the noob card? That man is not a noob sir. Pretty sure his 9 pool would destroy most on iccup.
Edit: also the real hyunjoon legend card would be 1/1, but has the ability to create 0/1 female pop star tokens, which may then be sacrificed to summon any MBC progamer.
On May 20 2011 13:07 aphorism wrote: Just a small note: For the 'Cream of Wheat' card, you could replace the whole kicker thing with 'Buyback: Tap an untapped creature you control.'
It'd have the same effect, and be much more elegant ^^
Use Buyback instead...? I wish I had thought of that! I'll make it happen.
Wow this is awesome lol. I am sitting here making deck edits to my Type2 for tomorrow evening and taking a break surfing TL saw this and couldn't help myself but build a TL block deck XD So here's My TL block Deck with as little help from real cards as possible ^_^
3 colours, Blue Red Green TotalDeck Size:60Straight up Ramp Overrun Baby I challenge other TL'rs to Make a TL block deck too! Creatures:17 4xJohn the Translator 4xLiquid Ret 4x{88}iNcontroL 4xLiquid TLO 1xR1CH Sorcery/Instant/Artifacts:19 2xBig Cheque 4xGosu Guile 4xPM 4xOrb of Silversky 3xCheerful 1xBonjwaMode 2xSword of Feast and Famine Lands: 4xMisty Rainforest 4xScalding Tarn 2xTectonic Edge 1xMystifying Maze 6xForset 3xIsland 4xMountain Had to add a few cards from standard to really make this work... but meh I'd argue this should be the next set released anyways soooo w/e :D If you don't play MTG and don't really get how it works here's a TL;DR kinda... + Show Spoiler +
John the Translator in combination with Orb of Silversky gets ramp and allows John to hook you up with solid card advantage all game long from Turn2! Broken much? Liquid Ret is straight up Badass! (not only at sc2 apparently) Between Ret letting you fetch lands like a true Liquid Gosu and the Scalding Tarn/Misty Rainforest you should have all your landing in play in nooooo time at all. Once all your lands are in play your finishing Gosu's Liquid TLO and {88}iNcontroL to BEEF up your creatures with {88}iNcontroL's tap ability and utilize John the Translator and R1CH to control the cards in my hand making TLO truely beastly! R1CH and John in combo with the Orb and Ret equipped with Sword of Feast and Famine can actually be alternate win conditions. Spells are straight forward use Blue for a bit of selective combo control and the others to fetch or beef up creatures
This is a really fun idea imo! Kudos to the OP, I had seen the lil "spoiler" before on the other thread and am amazed you have thought of so many ideas. Tons of super OP cards, Debo and DIMAGA are ri-god-damn-diculous lol
@Trozz I see, i didn't realize it was that kind of draft. Just figured id build a deck for fun. Even if Debo only does his ability once per turn, a 2/3 for 3 that pumps to 5/5flying for 2 is crazzzy lol maybe just have it activate whenever you could play a sorcery to balance it out.
-- Balance Changes: Dimaga is out of control holy shit. Liquid`Meat should count as a Liquid. Stimey's name is wrong. Debo's ability can only be used once. Husky and Teenliquid are too similar.
Haha, nice job, as someone that played MTG before (And wanted to get back into it by MTGO....then got busy...this just made me want to play mtg/mtgo again ;o)
On May 19 2011 14:59 infinitestory wrote: never played Magic don't understand 1/1 This is still awesome.
1/1 is power and toughness. A 1/1 is the smallest a creature can be in MTG, however most small creatures that have lower power and toughness make up for it in abilities and low mana costs. Making them ideal candidates for early game combos/aggro/mana ramp.
You respected the themes so much, I've never seen a custom MTG set that well made before Also the quality of the pictures is just perfect, with many real magic-stylish drawings. Awesome flavour texts. And indeed the cards would be totally playable
The relationships between the two worlds are genious and subtle.
Just nothing bad about it : it's perfect. Perfect.
My "favorite card" goes without doubt to John the Translator.
GG !!!!!!!!
*** Here is my small card suggestion :
"Extractor Trick" (Instant) Rarity : Uncommon Mana cost : B (one black mana). Or could be U (one blue mana). Or G (one green mana) ? You cannot cast Extractor Trick if you control two or more Noob creatures As an additional cost to cast Extractor Trick, sacrifice a creature with a strength of 1 and defense of 1. Search your library for any non-legendary land card and put it into play tapped Put a 1/1 noob creature token into play. Flavour text : "it's all about larvae and supply management" No picture yet -_-; ***
Relationships and explanation of the card, going from top to bottom of the above card description: - Extractor Trick - is obviously a required card name - Rarity : Uncommon - it is not that common to see the extractor trick, but certainly not rare. Uncommon fits the best IMO. Otherwise, common. - Mana cost of one mana + a small creature sacrifice, to stick to SC - 50minerals and a drone. - You cannot cast the card if you control two or more noobs - obviously players that are too noob don't extractor trick. Putting the limit to one instead of two noobs would make the card unplayable, especially for players using the set exclusively. - Sacrifice a 1/1 creature (probably a noob creature played in turn 1. IMO you should add a few 1-mana-cost 1/1 common noob creature cards in the set) : makes the card unplayable on the first turn. The card would be too strong if playable on the first turn, and the sacrifice mechanic make it stick to SC. Also, the card can be used to cycle a neutralized 1/1 creature (enchanted royal assassin or elvish piper that cannot cast abilities anymore ?), which is a little buff in case you draw the card middle or late game (where the card is less useful than in a opening hand). - Put a non-legendary land into play : that's the worker or queen or whatever that you get in sc - Put a 1/1 noob creature token into play : that's the cancelled extractor getting back to life - Flavour text could be a little more clever than this. This is a little too obvious of a flavor text
A great card to draw in your opening hand, less great to draw in the late game.
Can also be used to sacrifice a creature on purpose, combined with many cards (graveyard-related triggers etc).
Hope it helps
Edit : here is a sloppy example of my idea (need real image + BlackOrGreen combined mana + rarity icon + flavor text) :
omg im such a magic fan, i still play probably about 2-3 times a month with friends, im gonna try and print out some of these cars and play with them, liquid nazgul would be awesome for my black white deck

there is 0/1's
Well if you wan't to get all technical there are now 0/0's with the advent of living weapon artifacts.
I'm actually impressed. Most fan sets are full of totally off-the-wall imba cards, but yours are probably more balanced than the ones in Scars block, and they make sense! Good job.
This is awesome, I'll have to get round to making a noob deck. Cream of Wheat is a brilliant card.
Idea for a State of the Game card - similar to Etched Oracle:
State of the Game (5) Artifact When State of the Game enters the battlefield, put a charge counter on State of the Game for each different color (White, Blue, Black, Red or Green) used to pay for its cost.
(1) Put a charge counter on State of the Game. Target opponent puts a 1/1 colorless Noob Token into the battlefield under their control.
If State of the Game has 5 or more charge counters, sacrifice it and draw 4 cards.
Nice blog )). I laughed hard while reading. Btw, i find Gracken to be to good (except for CC, but that's a traditional story; except for Tharmogoyf) - undying Mutas for B?
1BBB The Automated Ban List Enchantment Skip your draw step. Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from play, draw a card. Unless that creature is The Gracken. Then you lose the game.
I seriously wanna do my own set for 5k
How long did it take you?

That's like asking if people these days even know who icedearth/zia is. Unforgettable posting has a way of sticking in the back of people's minds.
Really nice work, its kinda realistic the way you gave abilities and cost.
Suggestions:
Nerdrage 2RR - instant - +4/-4 trample, 1st strike Wrath of the Gracken 2BR - destroy all terran or protoss Mancrush 1U - sorcery - tap target noob, that noob does not untap during its untap phase. Nerdgasm WG - instant - untap target noob, it gets +4/+4
Was running through my cards (mostly old) yesterday, then I reread this.
Then I realized that the Elephant in the Room is funny... because it's a white elephant (duh) but also because MtG has white-aligned elephants to begin with (random example).
On May 26 2011 05:33 Slithe wrote: IMO there needs to be a purge card. I was thinking something along the lines of destroying all noob creatures on the battlefield.
Wrath of Moderators lol
Destroy all Noob creatures on the field. They cannot be regenerated.
Suggestions: Good Skill toi Have RGU Instant Target Creature gains; choose two: +3/+3, First Strike, Trample or Flying until end of turn. Draw a card.
Underwater Basket Weawing 2 Colorless Artifact At the beginning of your upkeep put a troll counter on Underwater Basket Weawing. Tap; Sacrifice Underwater Baster Weawing: Put X 1/1 black troll creature tokens into play under your control, where X is the number of counters on Underwater Basket Weawing.
Decorah Eagle UWB Creature - Troll Eagle Superstar 3/1 Flying No player may untap more than one pemanent during thier untap step.
Poopfeast420 BBB Instant Remove target creature from the game and put a 3/1 black troll creature token into play under your control. When the token leaves play, return the removed creature to play under its owner's control.
Nadas Body X Colorless Legendary Artifact Discard your hand: Nadas Body becomes an artifact creature that counts as a progamer until end of turn. Its power and toughness are equal to X.
Although it's still in the early phases, Green still needs ways to handle early flyers. Debo for example can "swing" as a 5/5 flyer by turn 4 (or even 3). Hence, need some cheap creatures with Reach or have abilities that control flyers in the early game. I suggest to use Handles from the ROOT team (cuz it makes sense!) If you notice, all the other colors do have ways to handle early agression already in your set.
Hence, I'll suggest a Creature card: Destiny - 1GG Creature - ROOT Pro Reach If Destiny blocks a creature with flying, Destiny gets +1/+1 until end of turn. T: Remove target creature with flying from combat. 3/3
Green needs something to interact with lands and more big creatures...
other than that u have all the imprortand abylitys (blue - counter and card draw) (black - creature destroy and graveyard interaction) (red - direct damage and creature damage) (white - lifegain and ???) (green - land interaction and big creatures)
I am an old gamer so old I started playing Magic during alpha OO Waiting for my group to get together at the local gaming store/gaming spot. Its funny watching the game progress from every card you had decks to decks that all they had were 1-2 cards like the ping deck(all prod sorcerers 1/1 tap for 1 damage) or counter spell deck before tourney rules before inquest mag etc.
Played on and off for years finally stopped when all my play decks over 12 tourney decks and a whole other box of side boards and misc cool cards got stolen from my car while I was working at the time. After that Ive never touched a magic card since I was soooooo pissed I left them in the car still am.......All my cool shit og Two-headed giants(one of my fav cards always) ball lightings shiva dragons grrr i could go on ....
All that said Love these cards sir so much win here thanks for this!!!
I don't have photoshop or any good pic editors so I can't get a good shot of it (and I've been trying for like an hour) but for the ban card I would advise a shot of the bottom half of page 197 of the automated ban thread, it's like a dozen bans of tdot by Zatic with tdot changing his name to copy Zatic's reason for banning him
EDIT: The wordings are by far the most professional of any custom set I have ever seen. One problem so far: Chill Out should read "If a creature named Chill is on the battlefield"
Ah... yes.. forgot that there's already a Magic Card named Chill. It's bound to happen with user-made sets with names that are already been used for Magic cards.
I don't mind the overpowerness of the set as long there are cards in the set easily draftable to control them. I didn't say it at first but Cream of Wheat's return mechanic is very very similar to Buyback. There are cards that affect both Kicker and Buyback mechanics so if Kicker plays an important role in the set then leave it be. Otherwise Buyback could be used instead.
I missed that thread somehow, this is so much work you did ! Never played Magic so I don't understand everything, but still had a good time browsing all the cards
