Well a working day goes something like this; 7am - Get up, and get ready to go to work. 7:30-8:15am - Forget to eat breakfast, struggle to straighten my bangs, furiously check the internet for new and shiny things. 8:15-8:25am - Walk to the subway. 8:25-9:00am - Commuting via Seoul's excellent subway system. 9:00-5:00pm - Work. 5:00-6:00pm - Commuting home. 6:00ish - Dinner time whilst watching some British comedy (Mock the Week, Argumental, HIGNFY etc.) via Youtube. I cook a lot more than I used to since I'm no longer sitting in OGN or MBC all evening. (I got fatter because of it lol.) After that it's mainly just getting ready for bed, watching movies and chilling out. I'm also a sucker for housework (I actually like hoovering o.O) so I always do that before relaxing. The weekend is pretty much the same minus work. I do like to go out on impulsive shopping trips, whilst forgetting to actually spend money on food. Sometimes I'll go out and photograph random things at the local park, or head up to Hongdae with a friend to raid the shops. I'm kind of 26 going on 80 lately.

It's been on my mind for years and I always feared that the ideals and goals of journalism are less nobler than once labeled in movies and in my notions of the early 60s to 80s (I'm pretty sure that sentence doesn't work). A common word I am hearing now is that journalists are more becoming infotainers.

I like to wear those 100% polyester-type half-zip sweaters (i.e. north face etc., "therma-fit" nike), and I've found that after washing them several times, they completely lose their initial amazingly soft/smooth feeling (versus cotton clothes which don't seem to retain heat as well, yet last for much longer)

It's been on my mind for years and I always feared that the ideals and goals of journalism are less nobler than once labeled in movies and in my notions of the early 60s to 80s (I'm pretty sure that sentence doesn't work). A common word I am hearing now is that journalists are more becoming infotainers. Yes, in a lot of ways I can agree with that statement. When I started working as a journalist I did it because I'd found something that I could really dedicate myself to. Something I was willing to make sacrifices for, and something I genuinely fell in love with at one point. What depressed me about my experience was seeing the robotic way certain journalists tackled the stories, and their lack of interest in really capturing a moment, or an emotion. Whether it was through the use of words, pictures or other media. I'm not really talking about my fellow eSports journalists, since a lot of their work still has that sense of personal passion. However, when it comes to a lot of the popular media reporting (especially things like Kpop) the photography is such low quality and the angles are so contrived that I wish more people could be brought in who feel a genuine sense of love for the things they are reporting. I think it's a case of needing to find a balance between romanticising certain topics, and provided relevant and interesting facts. Trashy journalism has its place, and can even be pretty amusing, but my favorite pieces are things like TL's final edits which show everyone a clear sense of the writer's knowledge and interest in the subjects they're trying to share with others.

I sometimes feel the same way, what I dislike the most are these "Journoblogs" where faux-journalists post up trivial stories, potentially false ones, without any need to follow the "creed" of journalism or at least the basics. If called out, they just say: "it's a blog, I don't have any criterias or standards to follow". My main example is the Gawker network that really just bothers the hell out of me, most of their articles are either empty remarks or jokes about something going on in the news now (and aren't really funny) or when something does actually happen, they litter it with opinion and snide remarks. Whenever I think of journalism, I think of how a lot of people go through a lot of schooling to properly write and investigate, as a journalist is viewed and then there's the internet that completely sweeps away these "protocols" and just appreciates the rudimentary quality of the internet: Instantaneous news. Rapid quantity for less quality. Off to bed now, thanks a lot!

Thanks for all you've done (from a hold lurker someone forgot about), and hope you feel better soon. The EVER OSL between BeSt/July was one of my favorites because of the pure dedication of the fans. The rain was so terrible that day, and yet the line to get in snaked right around the corner of the convention center. It was fun seeing a 'newbie' versus a 'veteran.' This was also my first experience seeing a player receiving the golden mouse. The crowd was really hyperactive, and it was fun seeing their cheer leaders (Guys with drums mainly.) really inciting them to get louder. The biggest PL finals for me was Samsung/Sparkeyz on Kwangahli beach in Busan. I worked for about twelve hours non-stop taking photos/making articles right there in a tent on the beach. I cut my arm and didn't even notice, ruined my sneakers, and spent the night sleeping in a love motel with two other girls (nothing like that you dirty devils!) It cost me $200 to do that pl, and I'll never forget being front and center on the press line taking photos as Samsung won. The crowd was all restrained behind us in this massive wall of cheers and whistling. Afterwards we had a big dinner with all the journos, KeSpa folks and team managers. I feel like a lot of the new bands are being thrown together just for the sake of making money at the expense of finding a new angle, or an interesting concept. This goes for both girl/boy pop groups. I've been focusing more on looking at the less 'mainstream' acts which have a little more creativity up their sleeves, and less concentration on looks always coming first. Plus the whole U-kiss thing pissed me off so much I ran away to Japanese music again.

TBH I spent so much time working on eSports for the first two years that I barely did any traveling at all. I really enjoyed visiting Kwangahli for the PL finals, but I spend a lot of time in Children's Gran Park in the evenings. It's really pleasant to just wander around watching the fountain show (they use a light show, music and co-ordinated water jets to put on a show every 30mins-ish.) during the warmth of the evening when not many people are around. I really recommend visiting the parks in Seoul, as well as the Royal Palace park and any more rural temples. Right now, my perfect day would consist of getting on a plane, flying to Tokyo, spending a horrific amount of money in shops like Mandarake, going to some kind of Tokusatsu live event, and then heading home the next morning. I'm planning a vacation to Japan with my Mum in the near future :D

It definitely depends upon the school, and the parents it is catering towards. However, I wouldn't discourage people who don't fit this mold from looking for work here. I've known several Asian-americans who've found jobs here. I tend to be more of a cafe girl, but if you go to Hongdae you can find loads of really quirky cafes that serve nice fusion foods. They're especially good for lunches. Gangnam is probably better if you're looking for something a little classier. You can even find really good eats in the 3,000won bbq places - student areas like Hyehwa and Konkuk are a goldmine of great restaurants with super low prices to cater to the strapped-for-cash student crowd. My guilty pleasures are bakeries too - especially Paris Croissant and any of the little independant onces in Hongdae.

The rush of getting a good shot, and having those kinds of unique experiences made up for how draining it could be at times. Well I tend to lump Chinese in with HK, Taiwanese and other EA countries that aren't Korea or Japan in terms of music. I do like Wilbur Pan, BoBo, Kimi and some faintly hilarious 'rap' acts like Edison Chen. I really hate ballads though, so I tend to avoid a lot of the more mainstream stuff. Oh, and I like some of Jay Chou, S.H.E. and Fahrenheit's stuff.

I do generally avoid them due to the cost, and the lack of posing/option parts etc. I wanted to make a Black Rock Shooter shelf though, so I invested in getting this one; http://www.goodsmile.info/product/en/2765/BLACK ROCK SHOOTER Black Blade ver.html She's the only one I currently have in Seoul except for two Prince of Tennis ones I got on the cheap. I'd like to order one of the Dead Master ones to compliment her. My favourite recent release is this one - http://www.goodsmile.info/product/en/3062/Tsumugi Kotobuki.html I just love the details of the food. Both of those for sure! Oreimo made me long to go to a big convention in Japan. I'd also like to generally look around and find out what the food is like. The last couple of times I've been to Fukuoka I just spent all my money on merchandise and didn't eat! I'd love to visit some shrines too. Also, to go to the doll stores such as Volks. I've not used either so I wouldn't like to comment, but I think regardless of which a person chooses the main focus should be upon finding a dependable body plus the widest range of lenses possible to suit what they want to focus upon capturing.

I'm planning a vacation to Japan with my Mum in the near future :D Do you do much travelling around now that you're not working on eSports? I just googled some of the places you mentioned, they look fantastic (google images showed a Kwangahli bridge that looked beautiful at night, reminds me alittle of the rainbow bridge in Japan). Childrens Grand Park looks great also, it's a zoo/garden/amusement park? That fountain show sounds pretty cool too. Thanks for the recommendations because I don't really know where I would go should I visit Korea (which is why I asked your favourite place to visit). I hope you have a great time with your mum in Japan when you guys go on the trip :D

When you buy a new item for your collection, you will probably feel happy for that moment but after a day or so, I kinda doubt that feeling prevails. And so, after some time, you will set out again to buy something new which will make you happy. But something more...practical would prove more useful and it will make you feel good several times as well. That's what I think at least. Well I don't really need that kind of lens any more since I have no plans to go back into reporting any time soon. As for the point of collecting - well for me it's less about an 'I've gotta catch them all' type mentality, and more about having a haven to come back to. Filling my room with cute items makes me feel comfortable and 'at home.' even though I spend a lot of time alone here due to not having family around etc. I also own pretty much all the practical goods I need (video camera, net-book, my 5D etc.) I would like a PMP and a better mp3 player sometime in the near future though.

Why do you feel the incessant need to keep ragging hypocritically at other females on TL for attention whoring? What do you wish to accomplish by trashing their blogs (Riku) and taking away from what others have accomplished (Kelly)? Can you not stand being in the spotlight? Everyone here respects what you've done in the past for eSports, but why can't you accept what others are doing for eSports and the community as well? Actually, I've been having a nice chat with Riku since we exchanged pms this afternoon. Also, I'm friends with Smix and Lilsusie having met both of them irl. I hardly post on tl any more, but it's nice to come back here from time to time. Plus, I'm allowed my own opinion when it comes to things like the Kelly shoot. There's only one girl on TL whom I actively don't get on with. I don't even know the rest of them except in passing or from hearing about them from other people. If I couldn't handle not having the limelight on myself, as you put it - I'd never have retired in the first place, would I?

I got kind of distracted by the drama llama-ing going on. Well, I've only got experience with a couple of cameras tbh. However, the advice I always give is to consider what type of photography you'd like to experiment with, and build your set up around that. I've personally found that Canon deals with the style of photography I'm more interested in (as well as being better at coping with the sorts of low-light environments eSports provided.) However, I've not tried any of the higher end Nikons, due to mine being a lowly D40X. I'm pretty sure you could pick up a decently priced 5D by now and just go for the same sort of easily transported set up I have by using a 50mm lens (or whatever takes your fancy in terms of wide-angle/telephoto etc.)

As an old BW fan I was super sceptical at first but came around mainly due to how awesome the foreigner scene is now. Well, I've not played it myself due to not having any access to it. However, just from tootling around TL it feels like it's really opened up the scene to a lot of people. The communication between foreign/Korean based houses/players and fans looks like it's taking off upon an unprecedented level. I'm happy to see so many more people being able to get involved in capacities other than simply becoming players themselves. My background as a gamer has always leaned more towards survival horror and rpgs, but BW definitely gave me an interest in seeing high level RTS play. (In the same way that attending DF, CS and other genre events got me watching games I'd never known existed before I came here.) I probably won't go out of my way to play SC2, but the effect its having upon the idea of a truly global eSports community is really starting to look positive. Even if the companies involved are going through legal disputes, and maybe sometimes don't have their priorities in order (aka. Money comes first.) upon a grassroots level SC2 looks like it's bringing a lot of new people out of the woodwork.

In a couple of weeks i'll be attending Dreamhack Summer and i'll have a chance to try and get some shots of plenty of players but probably the most exciting to me is getting something awesome of NaDa looking good. It's pretty easy tbh. My Korean stalled because I'm a) Lazy b) Spent two years focusing solely upon eSports. However, I've gotten by upon minimal language skills this entire time. You should learn to read hangul (it's easy) and it definitely makes things easier if you can hold a conversation, but it's not essential that you come here having mastered everything beforehand. Thank you :D I've found that the following elements really play a part in getting the shots you want; 1) Don't be afraid to pick your moment and then approach the subject of your choice to ask for some shots. Candids can be great, but a posed shot that is taken in the correct environment and doesn't look like it was just thrown together can be a nice change of pace. 2) Keep it polite, but make sure you're keeping tabs on your subject at all times in case they do something photo-worthy. Don't become distracted by 'needing to go get food' or 'what your friends want to do.' If you want the shot, you have to forget all about those kinds of distractions until you get it. 3) Find a good spot and camp in it - I once spent two hours hidden on camera behind a speaker to get shots at OGN during an All-Stars event. If you find an angle that works (and preferably gives you the opportunity to shoot multiple people at once) then put dibs upon it and remain there as long as possible. 4) Prepare your kit well in advance - just the common sense idea of making sure you bring spare batteries, check your settings etc beforehand and just before shooting. If you have a willing victim then send them to your chosen areas and do test shots. I hope that helps :D

A lot of them are quite self conscious and prefer to 'stay behind the camera' so to speak so my usual quite forward approach often seems to cause them to curl up in shy/defensive shells. So far the only successful method i've arrived at is the standard teasing, poking to break the ice but i want to stab myself in the arm every time i come on to someone like we're still 11 and over at the swings at school recess... Help me NGG-Kenobi, you are my only hope. Edit: On June 04 2011 11:27 NeverGG wrote: lounge about on the dole Wow, you just taught me a whole new saying!

As for my question: How would you rank the K-On cast (Yui, Ritsu, Mugi, Mio, Azunyan) in terms of who you like the most and why? :D :D 1) Mugi - This has more to do with her character design than her actual character. However, I do love how she remains quite mysterious and provides the other girls with lots to talk about. 2) Ritsu - Her temper reminds me of myself. I also like tomboyish characters with a lot to say. 3) Azunyan - I'm also a fan of twin-tails and moe. I really love her character design, and how the others take care of her in their own individual ways. 4) Mio - I'm not so in love with her character design, but the quirks of her personality (being afraid of scary things.) often make me laugh. 5) Yui - I still love her (infact her Figma is my favorite) however, I prefer the other girls above her for reasons I'm not sure how to define.

I have to stick it out through the horror of Summer first (I hate hot weather so much!) I'm looking forward to the snow.

Help me NGG-Kenobi, you are my only hope. Well, I'm not exactly the best person to ask about relationships since I am about as socially adept as a potato (and I am ugly so I don't exactly get people falling over themselves to woo me.) However, as a 'camera-girl' I suppose I should know what I like personally. I think for some girls that more gentle approach will work. However, it does feel a bit immature as you've said. It can say a lot about the girl in question depending upon how she responds. For me, I want the space to be creative, and someone who understands that I need to give priority to my work when I'm in that kind of mood. Someone who doesn't mind me acting a bit like a mentalist whenever I'm swept up in shopping for my hobbies, or a new concept I've dreamt up. The bog-standard advice of finding out what she truly loves, and whether you are compatible with her style of expressing that works is especially true with girls who dedicate themselves to something like photography. By hiding behind our cameras (some of us) genuinely set ourselves apart from the rest of the world, so you need to consider this when trying to break through that barrier.

Well lets pretend my apartment isn't a shoe-box where they'd have to sit on top of each other just to fit in here. 1) My net-book - it's my connection to home, to foreign friends and helps keep me social in a place where I don't really socialize that much. I also love watching dramas, movies etc on it. 2) My camera - I don't use it as much right now, but it's still an important part of my life. It comes bundled with a lot of good memories, and it's proven useful time and time again in my post-eSports life. 3) My passport - I hate trying to do paperwork, and it'd be a bitch to get it replaced. Hahahaha, I know if it really happened I'd choose things like my dollfies, my kamen rider photo-books and my nendoroids. I'd probably end up burning to death.

You're not missing too much with L4D/2...that game is kind of hit and miss. Some days it's good and other days there's just...something wrong with your group and the teams are horridly stacked and it's like pitting a D+ Terran vs Flash on ICCUP. Then you get annoyed and shelf it for two months. Or at least I did, haha. I imagine Dead Island is gonna be the same to an extent, however, it will be fresh and original for at least a little while! We'll have to see what happens with Dead Island - I'll be sure and PM you when it's out!

Not just like buying one or two, but if you collect a lot. Also, I just remembered: Which is better for spectating BW? Loox or E-Sports Stadium at 용산? I'm going to Korea this summer and I want to know beforehand I start going crazy.

Loox or E-Sports Stadium at 용산? I'm going to Korea this summer and I want to know beforehand I start going crazy. Well no one has actively said 'I hate you/your crazy love of Japanese plastic shit etc.' or anything that implies racism/dislike to me regarding my Japan-centric hobbies. I know some of them find it a little strange since otaku culture isn't really popular here (and adding to that I'm a woman/a foreigner so it seems even stranger considering a lot of the foreign women here don't even know about that type of thing.) My co-worker (another foreign woman) did sneer and go '$200 for a doll?' when I was talking to my other co-worker the other day about it. I politely asked her 'Do I laugh at your hobbies? No, because it's rude.' That shut her up quickly lol. I'd never dream of being so rude about someone elses' preferences, so I don't expect people to make negative comments about mine. It's fine to say it's not your thing, but acting as though someone's hobby is inferior or wrong just because you don't understand/like it really annoys me. I've found the otaku working/attending places like Comic World and Nonno21 (a shop which sells loads of nendoroids and other Japanese figures) to be really welcoming. When myself and cgivisionary attended Nonno21's monthly flea market we got given canned coffee, more raffle tickets that I was technically supposed to have (a random teenage boy even came over to give me his lol.) and discounts on things I bought. It felt really nice, but my only regret was that I couldn't communicate more with these lovely people due to my shoddy language skills. I also always get service and discount when I go to these shops. I've had everything from free figures to free food :D It's a really nice quirk of Korean shopping culture. I personally prefer Yongsan's OGN center - it's bigger, airier, you get a much better view, and there's much more to do around it. You have the whole I-Park mall with its shops (for me the appeal is the model kit/figure store Hobby Square and the gaming floor in the same building as the OGN center.) cinema and easy access via the subway to other places. LOOX MBC Hero Center is a little more out of the way, and the small mall it's in is often like a ghost town. There's nothing much to do there even around Yeongdongpo station. The studio is much smaller, cramped, bad lighting etc. You should try to experience both, but for me Yongsan is king.

I've actually seen the odd elderly person at games. They tend to come with their grandkids or other relatives, but it's not unheard of. My Mum came to several games and helped out with photo shoots when she was here. The largest demographics are; ~ Boys aged anywhere between 8/9-30s. ~ Women aged from about 15-30s. (Generally fan club members.) The female fans tend to be far more active than the boys, and will attend matches religiously depending upon when their chosen team/player is playing. They're also responsible for things like organizing birthday gifts, fan meetings and other events. A few of the fanclub presidents are male, but the vast majority are ladies. Also, they're generally very knowledgeable about the game itself, and whilst fan meetings do contain fanservice (players dancing, larking about etc.) they often have a larger focus on technical questions during the Q&A sections. This depends upon the team and their style of meeting, but at the meetings the girls usually out-number the boys by a significant margin. Certain teams have a lot more male fans (in comparison to others, but their female fan base will still be of a decent size.) - such as ACE and to an extent CJ.

Why do you think I asked the question? Instead of just following those guys you should come play! After all, if it weren't for your posts I wouldn't have picked it up in the first place. :D It's pretty fun! Next question: what's the worst thing you ever threw at somebody? I haven't thrown anything at anybody is not an acceptable response! It could be a total miss throw for all I care, i.e. I was playing 2-on-2 basketball and I hit my friend in the face with it. Something along those lines would suffice!
