9/2/2011 EDIT:
FIRST OFFICIAL MEETING IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 AT 8PM ON BUSCH CAMPUS SERC 204 (HILL CENTER BUS STOP)
Calling all scarlet knight SC enthusiasts --
We're about a month away from the Fall 2011 semester and Rutgers University is going to be seeing more SC action than ever before! Get ready for weekly meetings, tournaments, parties, clan wars, trips, trollfests, and more snacks than you'll know what do do with
For those of you who don't know about us or are new to RU this year, I'll briefly explain who we are and why you should spend time with us
The RU SC club traces its origins back to the Broodwar days, when some guys who liked to BM a little too much would cheese Princeton and Duke for collegiate glory (and lulz).
This went on until 2010, when a game called SC2 came out and our distinguished elders realized that it wouldn't run on their shitty laptops. To their dismay it was announced that the CSL would be switching to SC2, and things were looking desperate for the RU ESPORTS scene. Being a SC2 noobie myself, I went ahead and put together a brand new team, and less than a year later we had new club leaders, a top 16 run in the CSL (out of about 150 schools), and over 50 registered club members. We had viewing parties, club dinners, tournaments, a live showmatch vs Princeton (there will be a part 2 very soon I hope), and lots and lots of GAMES.
This year will be even bigger! Club president Spec set up an internal ladder system for CSL spots. It's on hiatus at the moment because people have been away on vacation, but there should be a lot of competition once school starts. There are a lot of mid-high masters level players active in the club (some playing GMs on ladder), so this is a very good resource for finding a practice partner and improving your game.
So if you are interested in joining the club, reply here with your Bnet info or just send me a PM. You can also join us in the "Rutgers" Bnet chat channel. All skill levels are welcome, and you are not required to have a laptop to participate! Even if you don't really play/only watch pro matches/ just want a cool place to hang out, you should stop by and say hello
So tell your friends! Spread ESPORTS around campus!
much <3 Erik RU team captain and coordinator

the people at RU are good SC players and very friendly. I am considering attending RU for graduate school. I contacted them with questions about the team/atmosphere, and since then they've practically included me into the community!

YES!
Alumni are awesome and can get involved in the RU SC community, the only thing you CAN'T do is play in the CSL tournament.

Cool thanks That might be an incentive to try and play more often if I have the time. My main 2s partner last season was Rich Jin (NewType- played for you guys a few times iirc). Regardless, gl hf with the upcoming season ^^

It's not so bad if you close your eyes when Snookie comes by
On another note, go and check out our new and improved forums at http://collaz.com/Rutgers_Starcraft !!!!
And Jess: 6pm should be fine idk when most people are coming but me and Yang will probably be in the study lounge playing some games.

What's the ruling on non-matriculated students?
EDIT: As far as competition is concerned.

Do you have a Rutgers email address?

Ah I'm glad I searched for this. I should be able to come on Friday (If I don't get lost on Busch ^^; looking forward to it. Just 1 question: do we need to bring our laptops or anything?

Bring your laptop if you have it, because we will definitely be playing some games. If you can't though, it's not a big deal because we still have a projector/plenty of other laptops. Also if you have a replay you want us to analyze as a group, bring that in as well. btw we will be meeting at about 7:30. Bring your friends, we will have snacks/soda and we will be doing signups -- the more people that join the club roster the better!

I got accepted to RU and plan on attending for the Fall 2012 semester. Could I join the team right now as a senior? I consider myself a low GM player at best right now.

You are welcome to start playing with us as soon as you'd like, but I don't think I can actually field you in the CSL until you have a valid rutgers email address and have started your term. Also I'm not sure how far away you live from campus, but we do have meetings every week on Busch campus starting 1/27/2012.
Join chat channel "rutgers" on b.net for practice games, and if you have Skype then give me your info and I'll add you to the group conversation!
