It's been a while since I've posted, real life has been a bit time consuming, lol.
Ive been doing a lot of thinking, and I truly want to start working at Blizzard sometime next year, and I better work my fucking ass off to make it happen. So without further ado, here are some practices. First, a fast 30 min character illustration. Just wanted to practice doing random stuff lol.
Today I decided to make a 1 hour Blizzard speedpaint, so here is Diablo Not really satisfied with the result, guess I have to practice more.
And finally a painting I am trying to really detail and take my time with it. Right now, there has been about 8 hours invested in this thing. Size of the real image is like 500% bigger than this jpg, but for the purpose of this being a blog and a WIP, I decided to just upload it as is.
Comments and crits welcome

Looks really great man. Love the detail on the fur and wings (?) in the last drawing.
I don't know squat about speedpainting, but your Diablo looks pretty good regardless.

Those are really impressive! I particularly like the last one although I can see you're still working on it I also like the colour scheme of the Diablo pic, it is very fitting with the overall theme of the game art. I assume you use a tablet for this, what kind do you recommend? I also want to work for Blizzard, but seeing the quality of the fan art (and those guys haven't been hired!) was very demotivating for me. But I sincerely wish you luck in your endeavors to get there, it would be pretty cool to have a TL'er working for Blizz

OOOO OOO OOOO OOoOOOOO OOOO OOO
my god

I like the first one probably the best to be honest. Everything else is clear, colorful and detailed, but the first one adds something more. Did you make him/it translucent?
|
wow these look really good
|
The last one is really sick. Do you have a deviantart account where we can get prints ?
|
|
Love'em! Don't be overly critical of yourself, don't restrain your creativity!
|
First one might be lesser quality then the 3rd one but it's by far my favorite.
Something about it.

Those look really good...

Really like the work, it's in a style I always like to see. The detail in the third painting is looking good Like Torte the first is my favourite though
|
:O... Those are really good, you have a future in this stuff man
|
Is the first one supposed to be one of these?
I really like the third one. You can totally tell how much work and effort went into making these. Great job!
|
I think you mean some amazing sketches :D
|
LOL that bird is still WIP and took you only 8 hours? wtf. I would have believed you if you had said this is a finished picture with about a week work behind it. how sick are you??
diablo could use some food though, he looks a little starved. Kinda like you tried to give him sex appeal Oo
|
The last picture is so goood *.*
Keep the dedication up, you definitely have talent in your fingers!
|
dont like the diablo that much either, the rest is amazing
|
These are great! The third one is definitely the best of the 3, but Diablo is still pretty damn good.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Really appreciate it Naz, 7mk, evan,Torte, always awesome to see replies from you guys
Surfinbird: Yup! You totally guessed the inspiration

I am absolutely in love with the first one. It reminds so much of Tsutomu Nihei's work in BLAME! That dark morbid style of drawing gets me so excited.

Woah really awesome. I admire people who can speed paint well, it's so difficult for me. The details are stunning ^^
|
I love your sketches

You're damn good, no question about it. But if I were to give critique(?) I'd have to say that the poses look quite unnatural. The left arm and left leg look stale in the last one for example. In the diablo one too, the arm looks off. Your colour "senses" however, are top notch. Really aesthetic. And your eye for detail is amazing.
You, no doubt, got a place in this profession. It would be fun to read your blog in a year and hear stories from your work at Blizzard. =)

I am going to revise the arm and leg on the last one, since im still in progress. I am unsure as to what is wrong visually with the pose, but I am going to try some stuff out to make it look more natural. Thanks for the crit

Thanks for the crit Yeah, saying that the 'poses' are unnatural is quite an exaggeration! Mostly the arms I noticed, but yes, it's a piece in progress and I understand where you're coming from (could be finished with just those details though. The head looks ineffably excellent).

Definitely very good art, great colours pleasing to look at, very detailed.
But to take it to another level:
Diablo doesn't look or feel evil at all. Don't feel the fear aura at all. If it were a random sketch no one would've felt the emptiness but it's Diablo!
The first one however........ wow. The least detailed but it has that mysterious, creepy feel to it.
What's that supposed to be? I don't get the image someone posted.
Good luck on your career!

Man. Your art is absolutely amazing. I love the colors and the amount of detail, especially in the 3rd picture. You know, my dream job when I was a younger was to be a concept artist for Blizzard or some other gaming company. That would have just been wonderful. But then I realized I wasn't good enough lol. But you definitely are. I hope things work out for you. Chase that dream! And keep us posted :D

Your detailing is gorgeous on the head, but the perspective & anatomy past that gets really skewed.
One of the legs is much too thick. I can understand that its thick at the base, but the forward leg would then have to show parts of the thick upper thigh behind it.
The stomach of the bird-man is also really straight and rigid. If he's bending over, there should be a curve to it
Need to run off to class now, so sorry I can't be more detailed

Very nice. 3rd one looks amazing already.

I dont feel the base of the upper thigh is bad, but you are right the forward leg should show a bit more.
Curvature on the stomach will be definetely implemented, thanks for the observation ^^
Again, thanks to all of your for the replies, this is much appreciated

They were plague doctors. They went and treated people that had the plague.
They wore the masks cause they thought the disease spread via the air (ofcourse it spread via rats/lice so the preventive effect was minimal).
The grim appearance combined with how they were at the center of the plague makes them very scary figures. The fear people had back then when seeing a person dressed like that has passed on till today. Albeit the life threatening fear is just replaced with an ominous feeling.
In a way they were the hazmat suits of their time. Imagine seeing people walking around a city in hazmat suits. The scare would be similar to that.

Good shit. I love your style. Very dynamic. I love how you leave it a little rough, gives it some real personality. I tend to overwork my digital paintings until there's nothing left of it. T.T

Wow, looks really good. Good luck in your search for employment at Blizzard.

Woah, I'm a big fan of that kind of drawing. Could you make something from a steampunk world?
Very nice work, keep it on.

Very unique and spot on with the style, awesome.
