Play an hour or two of customs/ team games, and then an hour or two of ladder. Or start off on the ladder, and if you start to tilt, you can take a short break by playing a few less stressful customs and team games

You're welcome But you need to commit! Resolve to play on that ladder, no matter what. Don't wuss out! Then by all means, play some customs or team games after a solid group of ladder games. There's no reason that you have to stop playing the other types of games gl hf ^^

I often shake a lot during the game, sometimes so much that my hands actually move halfway across the keyboard involuntarily during a game.

A while ago I had this as well but when you begin you will quickly realize that it gets easier and easier the longer you play. Its like riding a ghost train for the first time - as soon as you realize that all the monsters arent real you will ease up and it will be absolutely easy to endure a couple of rides until you have to rest ^.^ Don't think to much into it, just play! After a game or two your hands will ease up, I promise <3

+ Show Spoiler + That was a complete lie. It might seem kinda stupid to add this spoiler tag but maybe within that 1 second you were wondering why would I be so afraid to play 2v2s and custom games. You might wonder this because it is nothing to be afraid of. 1v1 is the same exact thing as team games, no one will bother you about how good or bad you are and that is what the mute button is for if they do say anything, laddering 1v1 for rank should be no different than your 2v2 rank. I'll admit it. When I first got sc2 I felt a little nervous/weird pressing the find opponent button for 1v1 and team games, I felt like these games were now worth something so losing is something I must absolutely avoid. Here is the secret though. It takes losing like 20 games to make you not care anymore lol. You realize that losing on ladder is so common and wont really hurt you at all. Your very first game on sc2 may have seemed scary until you played a few games. Your first team games may have been scary until you played a few of those as well. The same thing will happen once you play a few 1v1 games. No one is watching you or tracking you. Being last place is bronze is something no one will notice or laugh at you for it. To be honest, I played broodwar for almost 10 years and I kinda wanted to get bronze. I wanted to start on the bottom and be proud to work my way all the way up. Be optimistic about the situation of landing in bronze by realizing you will feel the pride of more promotions than someone who starts in diamond or masters. I played bw for so long and even I felt weird at first hitting the search button because everything was so new again. Just think that you may not do so well but that is perfectly fine. Jump into the game and keep playing. You may have to enter a situation where you REALLY want to win a game and end up losing. You will feel really bad about that, but the moment you press the search button again, that will be the moment you won't be afraid anymore.

Also try to have a constant plan or goal in mind, I've personally found that as soon as I'm unsure of what I should be doing that's when I get jittery and make mistakes because I'm trying to do everything at once.

then hit that find match button and realise that your plans got completely fucked cos some probe decided to steal your 2nd geyser. What do you learn from this? SC is unpredictable. Infact, it's so unpredictable that you might just win a game and feel good about it. So you quickly hit that find match button again. Then you do it 15 more times. Problem solved.
