So as I stated in my last blog, every 2 days I will make a new entry to show my progress.
As any who have read my past blogs know, I was gold league about 2 weeks ago when I started on this journey. I have posted my schedule, so everyone already knows how I will do this. Today for my placement matches, I placed rank 27 diamond. Today, I was home due to having strep throat. I played a lot and am now rank 2 diamond, but I've still only played about 3 masters (beat 1, lost to 2).

One thing I've noticed about diamond league is how many zergs there are, ZvZ is really annoying so after a lot of ZvZ games I'll play protoss for a few just to switch things up a little so I don't have to do the same thing over and over.

Today so far I have gone 17-12, which I think is pretty good as it is my first time in diamond and I was gold 2 weeks ago.

These blogs make me angry.

People do not understand how much is actually different between joe shmoe in Diamond, and a professional player.

I wish you luck, but expect that you will make the same discovery that I did of how hard it actually is to become good at this game, and the most difficult part is being accepted into the circle where the rich begin to get richer.

I'll take a game off of any GM, but I won't be accepted in to a good team unless I post a result like beating polt at mlg. (goswser)
I find your ideas both intriguing and boring and would like to both subscribe and unsubscribe from your quantum newsletter.

I know there is a HUGE difference, that's why I have a schedule, that I follow every day.

I also realize that the chance of me ever reaching pro status is about .1%, but I'm dedicated and will make it.

I didn't get the chance to see your other posts. If you're going to do a schedule of blogs to show us your improvement you should add the old ones so we can all read through them. I'm on the same boat as Thaniri. If you're planning on going pro I hope you the best and hope you do it, but please don't be like the other kids that want to drop out of school and quit there job to persue the idea. I'm moving to Poland in march to live in a team house and practise 11 hours a day with top GM europeans and don't know if I'll ever go pro. Best of luck, but don't give up everything in life to try.

My earlier blogs state that school will always be #1. I'm very young still, and I realize that school is the most important thing to have.

I think what usually gets said about these blogs is if your so dedicated why are you wasting time writing these when you could just be practicing harder.

Some people may legitimately find them a good/relaxing use of break time; but most end up using them as a crutch. They waste time blogging, reading responses, replying to responses, and then randomly browsing TL. Becoming good at this game requires a significant amount of practice time; for most blogging their chronicles ends up being a very poor use of that time.

The other problem people have is this "I'm going pro" thing. This is like me saying "On the road to a sub 4 minute mile". I currently run a mile in around 5:15. It makes no sense for me to be talking about running a 4 minute mile. A more sensible, and appropriate title, is "On the road to a sub 5 minute mile". This is a closer, and achievable goal. I'm no where near a 4 minute mile, in fact I'm so incredibly far away it makes no sense to talk about. It just sounds silly.

Not hating, but just trying to explain to you why most people give these types of blogs negative responses. You'd probably get much better reception if your blog was a reasonable title like "On the road to masters".

I see your point. I have been replying to these responses in between games actually, and I have been practicing for over 12 hours today. But, I do understand what you said about the on the road to masters thing.

How many "Go pro" blogs actually ended up with the blogger winning something, and how many pros who won something had "Go pro" blogs?

As always, GL HF, but do you homework first.

How many go pro blogs have gone from low gold to top 8 dia in 2 weeks, and have a rigorous schedule they work towards, while have meetable goals along the way?

Play the game as a hobby; if you get good at it then make a decision.

And no, master's does not qualify as good; I'm masters and bad.

Today I've practiced for a little more than 10 hours. I AM COMMITTED. This isn't a hobby for me. Griffith, if anything, that post was inspiration to what I have to look forward to. I would be AMAZING to be able to play 10 hours a day every day, only pausing for food. That would be my DREAM.

None, because they place into higher leagues than that when they first play the game. I went 5-0 in my placements on release, placed platinum, which was the highest possible, got promoted to diamond within 15 games, and about 5 months later, when master league was first introduced, I got promoted on my first game after the patch, having played less than 250 games in total.

I still have no chance of going pro what so ever, I'm not good enough.

And I read your scheduele, you're spoilt with still being in middle school, high school is a lot more time consuming. Not only are the days longer (get home at like 6 pm), you'll have to spend probably around 2-3 hours a day on homework if you want to get good grades.
And, adding to that, your scheduele is horrible. You're dedicating like 4 and a half hours a day to starcraft stuff, which isn't enough. Try 6, if not more. And that's not even playing, you're watching streams and shit in that time. At your level (and until you're high master/GM, at the very least), pure ladder is going to be far better for practice than watching streams and practicing in custom games, so if you can't grind out pure ladder games 6-7 hours a day for the next couple of months, you really don't have what it takes.

Then, once (if) you hit GM, you're about half way there to becoming a low tier pro, that no one has ever heard of, congratulations.

Thanks! And I am actually now just using the Illusion schedule from now on, which is go to bed at 4am so I get 4 hours of sleep.

The highschool I'm going to starts at 7:30am and ends at 2:35pm, which will give me a TON of time to paly when I'm done with my hw. The first 3 seasons, all I did was fuck around in 4s, with season 4, I started doing some 1v1, but didn't know any BO's or anything. Season 5 was when I went from silver since I hadn't 1v1ed at all to plat, then from plat to dia now. I hope to get masters by the time this season ends, and Illusions schedule should get me around 8 hours of practice a day.

By schedule I just mean when you play and how long you play. I start after I get home from school and end so I get 4 hours of sleep for the next day. Sc2 > school, until my GPA drops under B average. I will do whatever it takes to maintain a B average, as I want to go to the highschool previously mentioned.
Thanks for commenting by the way, you're one of my favorite players, means a lot even if you don't approve.

Tbh, I think you are playing way too much right now for where you are at. Even a lot of korean pros / foreigners to not practice 10 hours a day because over practicing is actually detrimental and you will not learn as fast at a certain point. It also depends on the type of person you are as well.

Most people will probably tell you that as it's *somewhat* obvious that too much practice is bad. I would say the only real benefit 10+ hours of practice gives you is for your muscle memory+mechanical skill at the game. In terms of learning new things, or adding things to your game i'd say 4-6 hours is when your mind is really fresh and able to pick up new things and help you develop SC mentally.

I can tell you you have the absolute wrong mentality about your grades too btw. I'm sure your parents or whoever has said to keep up grades, etc. but saying "...until my GPA drops under B average" is not good. You want all A's trust me. In terms of mindset for going pro + in terms of money. If you look at most SC2 "pros" or known names, there's a common thing you'll notice with every one of them - they are all incredibly intelligent in one way or another. It's not a coincidence that a lot of the GMS, pros, etc. all are uber smart, working on college degrees (or have one already), or have really high GPAs + good grades.

Yeh, that's not 100% but it seems like it's a common theme that most high level players are really smart people and did well in school. SC2 requires you to analyze a lot, and have very good critical thinking skills, so at your age even though you're putting a lot of effort into improving your muscle memory/mechanics with your 10 hour practice, if you are not able to even keep straight A's in high school...it does not bode well for your future dream of "being a pro."

This is the time in your life to really develop your mind, develop some social life in school, find interests (obviously SC2 is the main one) and develop yourself physically as well. So if you want to really "go pro" in SC2 you have to develop your mind, and critical thinking skills, and yourself mentally which is what learning in school will allow you to do! So keep straight A's.

Also, let me advise you some and share from my personal experience/lessons learned...getting those straight A's in high school is worth *THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS* LET ME EMPHASIZE PLEASE - THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

Whether you anticipate going to college or not, guess what? If you can maintain a perfect record and 4.0 GPA or anything close, then you can get college scholarships worth THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. So even if you develop an interest that you like better than SC2 in the future, guess what! You have a chance to get FREE MONEY and pursue that field of learning in college! That is only icing on the cake, as imo the most important thing for you to do right now is develop your mind!

So instead of "until my GPA drops under B average" you need to change your mind set to, "I am keeping my grades 100% A's." Another added bonus to this besides learning in school to develop your mind + possibly having THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in potential scholarships...is you get TIME. TIME TIME TIME! Let me explain what I mean by this.

You want to "go pro?" right? Well getting those high grades ezmode means you have more time to do SC, and in the future you will potentially have to work less hours because if you did want to get a college degree, guess what? Like I said before, colleges have scholarships and are looking for high achievers and such to give those thousands of dollars worth of tuission money to. And getting free money means you do not have to spend time doing an outside job, which means more time for SC2 if you do go the college route!

Another thing is the stress of bad grades and the stress of needing to stay above water in terms of grades will make you play WORSE SC2. I managed to just get through the last semesters of my college academic life but I could have had 100x less stress if I had been able to prioritize my studies even more. The mental stress of getting grades, especially if you are a procrastinator or whatever, WILL make you play worse SC2, and make it more difficult for you to learn SC2 quickly.

By keeping straight A's and being "gosu" at your studies, finishing school projects EARLY, and staying on top of it during high school...you'll find you'll have "more time" available to you than if you start letting your grades slip and suddenly you are getting mentally divided between SC2 time/study time, because you're just barely making the grades you need, which also then ends up impacting your studies negatively, and so on and so on...so keep your grades up A A A A A STRAIGHT A not "until GPA under B average" - DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN!

If you are a masters player, are you really going to just say "until I drop out of masters?" You said you're a diamond player right now...and you basically have the mindset of "i'll only start trying hard 'until I fall out of diamond'"? You're subconsciously setting yourself up to not succeed with your "until my GPA drops under B average." You will not go pro EVER like that. What i'm basically telling you is, no, you are not actually focusing on school currently with that attitude, so no, you will never be pro like that.

You see, you have to develop your mind in school, and get the grades, or you will end up making it infinitely more difficult for yourself to "go pro" in SC2.

Your attitude matters a lot. If you're only going to do what it takes to have a B average in school, I guess you're only willing to do what it takes to be an average SC2 player as well.

Thought I would share that advice with you from the perspective of someone who has already completed high school/college and is also "going pro" in SC2 as well. I made a lot of mistakes in my prioritizing of school/getting grades at the end of high school and my last two years of college, and it ended up making me waste years of my life + thousands of dollars that could have been put towards SC2/practice/anything else, so I hope you do not make the same mistakes I made and keep thinking "im gonna go pro SC2" and then realize your academics/learning are way more important right now in your life and will ALLOW you easier access to go pro if you really want to!

Also, you need sleep. 4 hrs is not enough. You will NEVER. Never. Go pro with only 4 hours of sleep. Did you read? You are never going to become a pro in your lifetime with 4 hrs of sleep. Never. Stop thinking you will. You will not. Ever.

7-8 hrs though per night...you open up the possibility.

You may want to consider updating your other "road to pro" blog instead of posting a new one of these every few days, especially if its only going to be a few sentences. Maybe you could post some of your replays from the day as well?

Also, you seriously need to sleep more than 4 hours a night. Are you kidding me? You might be able to make it a few nights with only 4 hours sleep...but you cannot maintain that in the long run.

Avilo's post is full of wisdom that one can only gain from experience. You, Mr. OP, just got a huge free gift that will save you from pain and suffering and failure from him. Read it and read it again. Take it to heart.
Starleague Forever. RIP KT Violet~
