I mean with another vehicle. I've laid my bike down 2 or 3 times before last wednesday....but last wednesday a car made a left infront of me, and I know she saw me, she just thought she could make the turn before me.....
Long story short, going 40 on a Ninja<<<<Chrysler 300. I'm lucky I'm alive, and lucky I live in a state with forced helmet laws....
14 Broken ribs, 9 on right 5 on left, 2 cracked vertebrae, punctured lung, broken collar bone, broken scapula.
I have mobility in all extremeties, its just hard to breathe and I can't bend my mid section or lift my right arm. I'm right handed too. Had to be choppered to a trauma center cuz local hospital can't handle those extensive injuries....And now I'm sad....I loved riding my bike....But...I never want to feel this pain again....or choke on my own blood again.
I also got two jobs, and I'm scheduled to miss 6 to 14 more weeks of work. So far I've missed one. I'm back at my house tho. Docs ain't did nothing really to set my broken bones....so I'm confused...my collar bone looks funny as fuck. Anyway, if you've been in a similar accident, or a similar incident like laying down a bike, lemme know....And if you have any advice.
Side note: I have almost zero road rash. I broke my ribs on the wheel of the car I think so i didnt slide far Edit1:
I just talked to there insurance company yesterday, they should be having someone call me today or tomorrow. I'm a little confused as what happens next....never had to do this sort of thing...if I hire a lawyer in the state I live, he can agree to settlements without consulting me unless I get it in writing I've been told....

that sounds horrible o_o
My father almost died when he was a teen in a motorcycle accident. I'm so glad he didnt
|
Ouch, that sounds really painful- what about the other driver- was she at least cute?
|
Is the driver going to cover the medical bills or something?
|
I've been to a few donor cycle accidents as a paramedic. I'm glad you're ok, a lot of people get killed on them and a lot of the time it is not their fault. I would say the next time you're out on the bike, act as if nobody sees you, everyone will do something dumb and never assume someone is going to give you the right away. Helmets really do save lives, I've seen a helmet split in two and the person who was wearing it only have a mild concussion.
I would follow up with setting any broken bones.. better to do it while they're broke as oppose to breaking them again to set em. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I was a little taken back at first, I thought "What, its winter here" but I'm assuming you live somewhere there is no snow.
|
Fuck man thats so terrible Im sorry. I've been down a few times but never with another car. Be happy you're alive and even happier that the bitch is going to pay for all your shit for the rest of your life.
|
on the bright side, you can sue her and her insurance company will pay you a large sum of money (they will settle before you ever get to court)
|
damn been riding for 4 years but have never been down so far. i know it's gonna happen one day but damn I hope it isnt as bad as yours. I am glad you are alive and recovering.
|
...Oh....Live in Southern U.S. Yea. I was suggesting trying to go to the ortho, but I think the appointment is next week. And I got no idea if she is cute. She's a rookie driver. We'll go with that. Her insurance should cover it. I ain't had a chance to get the police report.

it wasnt me but it was my uncle it was on black friday and he was out with his gf and was rear ended by a drunk in a F-450 threw hit 90ft and he skidded another 30 shaved off his nose and such and there were tire treads on his back. he got plastic surgery and you cant even tell that he was in an wreck, his girlfriend is still in a halo till this day with 9 rebars going into he pelvis to hold it together the docs said she would never walk again.. she hasnt walked to this day :/
my uncle was very lucky and im glad he is still alive. but the day he was released from the hospital he went out and bought the (brand new at the time) 2010 streetglide he actually ended up getting the first one in the state of MI

One time my grandfather was riding his motorcycle before my mother was born, on his way back from work. He was taking the route back he always took, but the night before they changed the stop signs so that he no longer had the right of way in the intersection. He didn't notice and just drove through the intersection and got hit by a car. He was in a coma for a week afterwards and was very beaten up, but fortunately recovered without any lasting injuries.
So yeah, motorcycle crashes are pretty serious, I'm really glad you're okay. Hopefully you will recover fast and return back to work soon.
|
Glad you're okay but this makes me not want to buy a scooter... Maybe I'll just bike around the city.
|
OpZ man...get better soon. Real dude. I'm sure all of TLMafia is hoping for you're safe health.
Be safe man. Got you in my prayers.

With the colossal amount of fucktards I see on the road every time I drive, I would never feel safe driving a bike.
Glad you're ok though.
|
Why women shouldnt drive cars reason 101!
j/k
hope you'll make a full recovery
|
idk how it works over there but make sure you get fixed up good and proper.. shit can heal in the wrong place afaik at least you can safely say..the only way is up
|
Oh my. I have fallen on my moped 3(or 4) times but never at more than 20 kph and it still hurts and give you a weird, sort of unnerving feeling afterwards. Can't immagine what it would be like in your case
But i would like to ask you a question myself: I am intent on getting a motorcycle myself, but what do you think of the risk/reward status? is it worth it to risk your life. I'm asking for a subjective opinion since i don't think there is an objective one. But i always wonder wheater it is worth the danger of getting a motorcycle.
|
Oh damn... well at least you bumped on an awesome car amirite? Chrysler, pfft, probably the mafia boss's wife trying to kill ya, lol nah joking.
Bloody Good to hear your alright

oh my goodness, that's scary as fuck. glad to hear you're okay. my idiot terrible driver roommate from way back wanted to get a motorcycle and we convinced him not to - there's like a 50% chance that he'd be dead by now if he had gotten it. sounds really fun but not with tons of metal moving alongside you.
|
I haven't. One of my aunts neices got killed in a bad accident though. It sounds like it would be kinda fun to me if the road was like completely empty. Hell, I don't even feel safe driving around these idiots around here in a car, I wouldn't dare risk my life just to ride a motorcycle. Just seems so risky with all the inattentive/shitty drivers that populate the streets.
Those are some serious injurys op, hope you recovery quickly. Sounds brutal.
|
Wish I had a motorcycle, but the women in my life won't let me. Probably for the best. I bike to work each day for about an hour and always feel unsafe on the road. Here the law is that bicycles have to go on the road, but all the drivers honk at me. (mississauga). Got hit by a car once last summer wasn't too bad, the woman cut me off so i almost went into the side of her van, then when i swerved to avoid (she was waiting for pedestrian to cross a parking lot) she drove into me. Got up and biked off after than one luckily.
|
Holy hell. Reminds me of back in freshman year, when I was working on a project with some guy. One day he didn't show up, and the next day I asked him where he'd been. Turned out his best friend had been hit by a car while riding a motorcycle and died

Just....don't drive in busy areas with it. You got to be really aware of everything. I couldn't really of prevented mine, because I was already slowing cuz 2 cars turned before the one I ran into, so I already started slowing. She just thought she could beat me, which was retarded as fuck. She hesistated then hit her breaks because when she turned into the parking lot, the other cars weren't around the corner yet so she was covering half my lane.
I'd still ride my bike on a highway if it were rideable. OMG it is sooooooooooooooooooooo fucking fun. Great stress relief. I don't really think about much while im on it, except going. The wind hitting you. It's just nice. I love everything about it. I'd definitely get another one. But not for a long time

From what I've understood, if wearing helmet in your state wasn't enforced, you wouldn't wear one?

-_- No, I'm sure I would primarily still wear a helmet.
Answer me a question, do you ride motorcycles?
And then go to another motorcyclist and ask him if he always wears a recommended riding jacket with pads, riding boots, chaps, and motorcycle riding gloves.
And yes, I would probably not wear my helmet every casual ride I go on if I lived in a no helmet law state.

Survive and thrive the first night... gotta love the voice (he looks weird though, some Vblogs of him, I wouldn't recommend watching it, kinda broke it for me).
I crashed twice, nothing that serious.
First time with my yamaha FZ6N (600), some girl didn't see there was a redlight, while I was accelerating to pass at orange~red... ended up in her car, moto didn't look good but I got lucky myself, just scractches.
Second time, recently, with my yamaha XJR1300 (1300), first day of my job, I was trying to impress the pretty secretary, started like crazy on the parking, and failed like a dumbass on the first corner. Slid and rammed into the road security things. Again, got lucky myself while the bike didn't.
I hope you can recover well. And get a new bike if you so desire. And be even more cautious about all the shit that can occur to us, while still enjoying riding it.
For now, take it easy, and good luck.

I'm glad you are ok. However, this is 2012 and there are full body airbag suits now. I'll never understand why people insist on doing dangerous things with minimal to no protection. You also admitted a few posts up that you don't wear even the basic minimal gear on each ride.....
Just because lots of people do stupid shit doesn't mean it's something you should follow.

Unlucky dude, get well soon!
My uncle died before I was born in a bike crash, biking seems to run through the family. My dad has gone through about 15, pretty sure he's past it now though, he sold his last one a few years back. I'm surprised he hasn't had any serious accidents considering his tendency to speed, and I know at least a couple of those bikes were totalled
|
I've been riding for a little over a year now. Brought it down once just from going to bad cornering but nothing with another car yet (and hopefully I never will). Still even after my crash which resulted in a fair amount of road rash and a somewhat deep gash in my ankle. I was so nervous getting back on my bike for the first time but after riding a motorcycle there was no way I could go back to a car. Very little compares to the enjoyment of riding motorcycles for me.
On another note what kind of Ninja did you have? I'm in the process of selling my current bike (96 suzuki bandit) for an upgrade. I'm mostly looking at CBRs and either an r6 or an r1 but I've seen some pretty good deals on Ninja ZX6rs. Just wondering if you had anything to possibly say about the performance?
But anyways just do your best to stay positive. Like you said you're lucky to be alive and not paralyzed from the neck down. I have known a number of people to not be so lucky. As for the two jobs thing, that's one of the last things you should be worrying about, you'll be taken care of.
Hopefully someday soon you'll be in well enough health to possibly get back on. (:
EDIT: Just saw in a previous post that you said you had a 500cc? So nevermind on that second paragraph I guess. d:

I bolded that for a good reason....I feel that same way....The pure enjoyment of just being on one is ridiculous. Anyone that says anything else has probably not rode one, or has and has wrecked and never got over it....No body just stops riding one day like "eh...its just not fun anymore, I'd rather drive a car"
I know....I know...Its just I had just started this other job last month....and I was probably gonna wind up the store manager man...Fuck....that just eats me up....The other job can go fuck itself....
My gf's brother-in-law I think just got a YZF r750, and that thing screams....it has a few probs with it and I was gonna help him a lil in getting shit down, but idk....a ZX6R Ninja wouldn't do you bad, they are really pretty bikes in my opinion. I don't know much as to the performance. I'd go with the CBR though. I've had my problems with getting parts for my Ninja...But that's just probably my model too...so Idk...
And do you really need all the power that a 10X has to offer? I mean shit, only reason I'd ever try and push my bike that hard would be to outrun the cops, but thats dangerous as fuck. Lol...

When people professionally race cars they wear helmets. Why shouldn't you?
Do you wear a helmet every time you ride a bicycle? Why not? Are you not worried about your safety? Do you ridicule every bicycle rider who does not wear a helmet?
It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp why one would not always value their complete safety with the upmost importance. Also saying "you had it coming" is not chill. Plenty of people die or get injured everyday for not taking taking all possible precautions. It is extremely ignorant to say "they had it coming". ):

shit like this is why ill never ride a motorcycle ever and have a serious logical discussion with anyone i know who does. No amount of fun is worth risking your life everytime you're on the road. I didn't come out at fault, nor have I whined. I said in my posts the extent of my injuries. My bike is not a beast. The dash goes to 140, same as most cars. It tops out at 132 on a level road. I've only done that twice on completely open stretch of 2 miles. You don't really understand the enjoyment that comes with riding. I was hoping some other ppls stories would help me feel better about getting back on, cuz this shit hurts and I'm srsly thinking of hanging up my towel. Any more negative comments plz leave blog.

EDIT: Oh, it's not like I'm superevil carmageddon fella riding over every motorcycle driver and I'm happy you're hurt. I hope you make a full recovery, never ride a bike again;but seriously - you had it comming. Imagine what would happen if you were driving a car instead(well, too bad, the insurance is gonna cover a new bumper:<). Do you wear a helmet when you drive a car? Why not? It's more safe. It is extremely ignorant to say "they had it coming". ): Thank you.....I was going to say that about wearing a helmet everywhere, a breath mask, and every other thing to protect you fully....

Well FU, it wasn't really on purpose. I never dared speak to said secretary for the rest of my job, either. I had to go work with my bicycle. It was a 4am job, during winter.
Finally got the repair paid, this month. Now I can't pay the rent.
Riding it again since 2 or 3 weeks, still going strong, still sucking gasoline as if it was growing on trees.
Also, the girl was really hot, the road was really fucked (really stiff corner, tires gum and random oils on asphalit from ton of trucks manoeuvring there due to said corner being so stiff, and fucking old train rails encrusted INTO the road, being close to an old train-station - no escape when you're on a "look at me" manoeuvre).
I've been told, afterhand, that yes this corner is dangerous and I was not the first one to crash here, cars / trucks did too. "Thanks"

Hopefully I can provide you with some nostalgia with this anecdote:
Like I previously mentioned I got in a small crash before, This was maybe in Oct. last year. I got my bike all fixed up after the crash but one thing the mechanic did not replace was the glass cover of the light. The light still worked it just didn't have anything protecting it. I looked around a fair amount a new lens but had no luck so I just kinda gave up. Somehow this was not a problem for like 3 months of riding but finally I was riding one night to meet up with some friends and the bulb just randomly blows while going like 40mph so I just pull the bike over and leave it over night. The next day I took it to a shop to order a new light. Cost me about $40 and they said about $80 to install. I'm a college student and while I do work I'm not exactly loaded with cash so I said fuck it I'll install it myself. The light that I bought was not the same type as the old one so it took me about two days of getting random nuts and bolts and some stuff for the electrical work but sure enough I eventually got it fully functional and looking great. I was really proud of myself and finished relatively early (this was yesterday btw) so I called up my friend who has a pretty tricked out mini cooper (sadly I have no friends with bikes lol) to see if he wanted to go on a joyride in a pretty local highway. It was honestly one of the best rides I've been on even though I've rode that road plenty of times. Weather was so perfect, my bike was running great, there were no cars on the road besides us and the highway is sooooo fucking beautiful. It was one of those days were you realize how much you take natures beauty for granted. So anyways I was riding like a champ, I don't have a full track suit (they're too expensive lol) but I was to the best of my ability doing some decent knee down I felt like it was the best riding that I had done yet. No sketchy corners but at the same time I felt like I was pushing myself. I even got my friend to ride my bike for a bit for his first time and he loved it. He wants to get a motorcycle now lol. It was just such a great day. Got me so pumped on getting the new motorcycle and at the same time made me sad to sell my old one. I was even feeling so good that afterwards when we got some food afterwards I randomly asked out this really cute girl at cafe. She ended up having a boyfriend but it was the effort that counted. XD

Glad to hear that, because although my moped couldn't go more than 60-70kph it was one of the greatest things i could do.
But i will follow a general rule about it, and that is to never push at all when someone is around :D

It's crazy what all of the adrenaline can do although it's nothing all that new too me. When i was 13-15 me and some friends used to find the biggest hills we could and longboard down them (I got clocked going 40mph by a car driving behind me one time) and I have fallen down a few times from that. Pretty similar to what my motorcycle crash was like.
But anyways after I crashed on my moto a few cars pulled over to help me out and a guy tried to pick up my bike for me and he could and even though I had a fat gash in my ankle I was able to get up walk over and pick it up on my own lol.

First of all I really hope you recover in an excellent fashion OpZ!
A good friend of mine had a horrible bike accident as well 3 years ago. He would always go to circuits to satisfy the speed junky in him, but on the highway and normal roads he'd take it easy. Sadly enough his brakes jammed one day while he was taking a right turn off the highway, he flew off his bike and got his right arm cut off by the "safety rails" at the side of the road.
1 inch more to the left and he would have had his head cut off..
And over the years a lot of guys I knew died because of reckless car drivers who are either too blind to see the biker, or just too retarded in general. If it ain't on a circuit, I prefer a metal cage of protection on the highway and such.
Here's to hoping everything gets covered by the insurance and that you can ride a bike again in the near future!

If you mean these things i know what you mean: + Show Spoiler +
They are basicly road mutilators. Horrible for motorcycles but probably safe for cars (never driven into one). I think that full blocks should be the priority for road security in the eventual self driven car future. Those fence things are unnerving to drive next to.

I broke my ribs on the wheel of the car I think so i didnt slide far
Some seriously scary stuff there, and I'm glad you're alive and not a vegetable or something. Don't hesitate to push for as much money as possible out of her and her insurance. It wasn't your fault and the last thing you should do is try to play nice when you could have life-changing injuries.
I bolded the statement above because I find it quite silly. Would you have been riding without a helmet if it was legal to do so? Thank god for the State protecting you from yourself right? I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt that you know not to go 40 without a helmet...

I'm debating if I'm gonna need to get a lawyer. I'll see what they think they'll first offer me, but I wont make my decision then, which I'm 90% sure its gonna be no to that offer. Potentially life long injuries.
Another better way to put it than the other dude. I would of still wore it then cuz I was considering riding it longer. That was my actual intention to ride around for about an hour, but I couldn't think of anywhere to go at the time so i just picked my debit card up and went back to gf's house. I would wear my helmet around town espicially during busy hours like it was. I'm just saying, thank god for it because I've more then once hopped on it and started to leave my neighborhood and had to turn around cuz I forgot the helmet, which if it wasn't a law, I probably wouldn't of turned around. It instilled good behaviour is what I'm saying. But on an open one way road, with a divider....Yes, I'd consider riding without a helmet every now and then. like 5% of the time tops. I personally like my helmet....Lol

Get a lawyer, file a civil suit. Don't even wait to talk to the other parties. I hope you recover well.
