After 3 months of hard work I finally made it into Masters a few minutes ago, I'm so incredibly happy right now. YAY!
Long version!
I started playing again last December after basically a year of not touching SC2. Ran out of games to play and started playing SC2 again. Once I started I became really determined to get into Masters just to prove to myself that I can do it.
I was in Diamond before my break but was so rusty when I came back that I was quickly demoted to Platinum. Got back into Diamond about a month later and I've been grinding games ever since trying to break into Masters. I was stuck at high diamond for a long time and was starting to feel really frustrated at the game.
But I started watching Stephano and got really inspired after watching him crush one tournament after another. I think he's the player that made the most impact on me and I've since become a huge fan of him. I began to emulate his Ling/Infestor play vs Terran and all of a sudden the game became fun again.
A huge source of help to me is the zerg help me thread. I really appreciate all the higher level players helping out there. People like Belial, Blade, Darkforce etc, it's really informative reading all the posts and debates and I learnt so much from them.
And finally today after my 6th game of the day, I was promoted!
Anndddd that's my league promotion story. Hopefully I'll retain my passion for sc2 and not start drifting off to other games (*cough* D3 *cough*) just because I reached my goal of getting into Masters.
Thanks for reading!
Edit: This on the NA server. D:

I thought it was US Masters = China Masters = Korean Low Masters to High Diamond? The average Korean masters player is no that phenomenally skilled compared to an American player.

Just out of curiousity, have you played at that level? I can say with confidence (personal experience) high masters US = (high) Diamond KR.

Congratulations! Now, go own it up on KR!
|
I play on both US and KR and on US I'm high masters and or Korea I'm low masters.
|
Congratulations! I've seen you before, and good luck!

Basically this. Congrats though :o

Congrats! As long as you're in masters now, you can not ladder at all, play all customs, and just say you're high master but just don't ladder bc you don't have to.

Christ. There's a few of these people in every thread on this site.
Who the fuck cares how each server compares to each other. Do people expect everyone to buy 3 copies of the game just to sit atop whatever podium is the highest at a given time? He's in NA, he plays in NA - who is to say he couldn't get Master level in any other region with the hard work he's clearly willing to put in?
Why do you need to piss on someone's accomplishments with such inane trivialities? Can't you just keep that shit to yourself so the guy can enjoy the congratulations and feeling of success?
To the OP, congrats dude, I'm happy you got where you wanted to be.

He's just trying to minimize OP's achievement.

Super jealous
I have the same story as you (diamond -> hiatus -> platinum -> diamond), except I'm not in masters.... yet!
Congrats though

Congrats man. This kinda makes me want to play Starcraft and get good at it myself too!

GZ Op ^^ it's always nice to achieve something you set out for keep up the good work ^^
@ heha I don't think you're as good as you think you are. I know from personal experience that high masters on NA make low masters on KR with a bit of difficulty but after about 80-100 games they normally get promoted.

Nice, gratz! Ofc you will keep playing coz of d3 *phhfff*
GM gogogo good luck
|
Yayayaya I'm in a similiar situation as you, #1 diamond then stopped playing for a while. Kinda want to start again and get to masters just to know I can do it. How did you practice to change get that extra edge to get the promotion into masters??
EDIT* Congrats, every promotion always made me feel so happy, from silver to gold, gold to plat, and especially plat to diamond, I literally dance around after every promotion. Big smile on my face for the rest of the day.

Hmm, I didn't do much differently, just mainly laddered. I did hit a wall vs Terran and Protoss which I kinda got over by watching Stephano's stream and studying his replays. I think the key is just to continue playing more games. As my mechanics got better, games flowed much smoother and things got easier.
Oh and I'm a compulsive watcher of my own replays, especially the ones I lose. I try to spot my mistakes and improve on them.. don't always succeed but it helps.
And finally don't get discouraged if you're high diamond and still not getting promoted after seemingly forever. As long as you are playing against masters you will eventually get promoted. My promotion placed me into a newly created division so I guess battle.net was just waiting for enough players to create it. So just keep plugging away at it. D:

The game just got interesting for you

Low master NA is actually KR platinum. I am high diamond, beating low master on KR and I can take games off of GM on NA.
Masters is a good achievement to get though, but the better you get, the more you know how bad you actually are.

Congratulations !!! Your story is very similar to mine, and I was promoted not that long ago.
Keeping motivation for the game was hard, because I'd basically achieved my goal and I didn't really believe I could go to the next step (GM). I hope you'll find something to motivate yourself to keep improving. And have fun in customs, expect people to rage at you when you say you're Masters !
