If you want to learn about some specific natural phenomena or experiments, your best (most convenient) bet is just looking up sources online (nowadays wikipedia has a very detailed and well-managed article covering most phenomena you can think of, and if you have some personal problem with understanding something, ask about it in reddit's askscience or explainlikeimfive subreddits, or even here in blogs, surely someone will love to help). If you're looking for a more generic introduction to science or some scientific concepts I suggest the books/videos of popular scientists ("science communicators") like Richard Feynman, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku or even Bill Nye.

I would strongly prefer a physical book for convenience and so that I can just read it casually when I am bored.

If you want the history of science maybe you could try some of these books: http://depts.washington.edu/hssexec/library_list.html#gen I did some fun experiments measuring the speed of light when I was in the gymnasium - one using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fizeau–Foucault_apparatus - the rotating mirror variant.

Covers everything a bit but nothing really indept. A diffrent book would be the Physics of Superheroes. I liked that one, althoug i am not that deeply into physics.
