I'm kinda sad because I wanted to eventually become high masters/gm on SC2, but I'd much more rather spend my time having fun with friends than churning out game after game trying to get better. Maybe I'll come back for HotS or something, but atm it's all LoL.

I get pissed when I go on a losing streak in SC2, but I don't ever rage quite like I did when I played LoL. One idiotic teammate and it's pretty much game over. It only compounds on itself when that idiot is yelling at you in a language you don't speak.

LoL is awesome, especially when queuing with friends. it's a great experience, that mostly doesnt bother itself with nerve-wracking competition like sc 1v1 does. What turned me away, however, was the pay-to-win aspect, and the constant balance patches that change the meta game much too drastically. aaaand i'm a grognard and prefer dota but to each his own. glad you're having fun. And be sure to try out dota once it is released! There is no pay to win in LoL. That's the entire premise of a competitive F2P game's success (read Riot Gaming). LoL, on the other hand, can be played with friends even if everyone isn't exactly on the same level and therefore provides fun more easily. That being said... on a different note... I hate the way LoL looks... DotA 2 and HoN are more my style. too bad no one I know plays those either. Yeah, I can't comment about Dota or HoN because none of my friends play those. It's a shame SC2 is the way it is. On one hand it's fun to get better and stuff, but then on the other it's super vacant feeling and it's also stressful. Team games aren't very fun because either you play with randoms and get pissed off because they're idiots, or you play with your friends and still get cheesed every game.

If you don't buy champions or tier1/tier2 runes, you have enough IP to complete a runepage around level 20 (though you can only do so at 30 when all slots are unlocked). A few weeks ago i spent about 2 weeks grinding games for IP and then had all my 10 runepages completed for every character i'm likely to play (Tank/AP/AD/AS/Support), took me about 100-150 games.

Also buy t1 runes, they're about 40-60% as effective as t3s and you can get a full page for like 1000 ip (4-5 games).

For viewing entertainment, I tend to feel that MOBAs are inadequate for the same reason that they're good for casual play: they're just much simpler than an RTS. Of course, in terms of audience numbers they'll do well anyway because a large population of player translates directly into a lot of viewers, even if the spectating experience isn't quite as good.

Like Blitzer, I recommend people who like LoL to try Dota 2. Not just a game, but really sit down and try it. Dota 2 is way more heavy on mechanics and has some crazy complexity with team setups which I think a lot of LoL people would find superior if they actually tried it for 10 games or so.

Have you watched some recent Dota 2 tournaments? I have a few games on the top of my head that might just change your mind. SC2 is not on that level but good enough nonetheless. Both games reward constant practice to overcome a sharp learning curve which shares more similarities with Dota 2 than with LoL (in the minds of those advocating Dota 2). This is TL after all.

I tried LoL myself 2 months ago and I enjoyed my first few games a lot, but I played those games with friends. As soon as I played some games by myself, I quickly realized the game is not bad per se, but other games (like SC2) are much better and way more fun to play alone.

I really disagree here. I have a way easier time teaching someone the basics of SC2 or even BW than the basics of DotA / League, simply because smaller things matter earlier and there is more basic knowledge that you need to learn. On a higher level (solo q is a different game) the coordination required between teammates again introduces much more variables that SC2 doesn't have. It's really, really hard to argue that one of the genres is "simpler". Edit: What's without ANY discussion great about League of Legends though is that it has the best subforum on TL. Period. ♥

Same thing is being applied to LoL: skill bar is much lowered compare to DotA (and starcraft) which make it much more enjoyable to play but the game should not be taken as serious as people treating it right now at top nouch level. You can basicly play WoW for your whole life, start playing LoL for 3 months and get into a pro team pretty fast. Next thing you know, my friends is taking games off sponsor players in major tournaments. For a lot of people, if there is no competitive edge, they would rather go play single player games such as portal or Mario and still have as much fun. I am one of those.

Different game, different mechanics, different decision making. It's just different. Don't like dota 2. Feels like I'm playing a 5 year old game (I did play some dota back then.) and the interface bugs me way too much. LoL's isnt exactly perfect, but it doesn't grate on me in the same way. I love playing bio in tvz too :D Last January I came back for a week to play some SC2 after almost a year long hiatus. I lost all my placement matches on purpose and went on a 30-0 winning streak playing people who claimed to be ''high diamonds'' while still being in Gold league. The messages I got from players after they lost to me were hilarious. I made it to masters and dropping only a few games beforehand. I was high diamond when it was still the best league. (Back when I was still active.) SC2 isn't hard unless you play it at the highest level. Same goes for LoL. Problem is people have this really bad mentality going into SC2, thinking it's a hard game with demanding mechanics, while it's really not. I coached 2 of my IRL friends into Diamond (again, when it was the best league) in less then a month. I currently get more enjoyment out of LoL and Dota since I generally speaking like team games more than solo games.

As for my comment om complex team setups, that wasn't a jab at LoL, but more a comment on the fact that in LoL 1-1-2-jungle is such an extremely common lineup, while it's a bit more mixed up in Dota 2 with trilanes etc. If you weren't so defensive, you wouldn't find "subtle insults" in every post mentioning Dota 2.

I think people around here forget that games are... well, that, games. They're supposed to be fun first and foremost. LoL is certainly less complex than the other MOBAs but it's hardly lacking any sort of skill or competitive aspect. Start playing LoL without having a clear understanding of the game and you'll get destroyed again and again, the same that in SC2. This is all just silly nerd elitism of "my game is better than yours", they're all just games, just play whatever the hell you enjoy.

Like I said in my post, go read up on LoL related posts in anywhere except LoL section and you will see Dota players invading and more often then not bashing it. Me calling Dota players aggressive was simply a response to him calling LoL players defensive. Both are true, but also what's true is the constant bashing of LoL in these forums, which has caused LoL players to become defensive. And it's also pure stupidity to make the claim that LoL players would for some reason be more aggressive then Dota players. It's simply not true. But I can agree with that others, including myself, have become more defensive due to the constant bashing and spreading of mis-information regarding LoL. ''LoL is pay 2 win'' ''LoL only gets high viewer amounts because it has it's stream embedded into the client so everyone who is online will count as a viewer''. Those are just a few examples of things that have been circling around these forums. Though at the same time I have seen some improvement, mainly due to the fact that numerous pros are swapping over to LoL, I'd say.

As you said, any game is way more fun when playing with friends. I enjoyed the hell out of MW2 as well. I had two groups of around 10 friends with some overlap that would always try to get into parties of six, and we were guaranteed to have a ton of fun whenever that happened. Sometimes we did stupid shit like killing ourselves right at the start of the round to piss off the other team, sometimes we just hid and waited for them to find us, other times we tried to go on really long win streaks (this is all in Search and Destroy). I think we got something insane like 30 games in one night. One group was really into quick-scoping, and it was actually fun to play competitive matches against other teams. I think the problem that most people that are too "hardcore" for the game is that they take it too seriously (not nearly as competitive as CS, blah blah) or that they aren't playing with a good group of friends. The game isn't meant to be truly competitive just like checkers isn't, but it can still be a lot of fun. I did hate playing without friends most of the time, though.
