i'm not going to bitch about balance because i think that's stupid in general, plus TvZ is still a strong matchup for me (60% wins over the past week in NA and EU masters).
nevertheless, trying to play TvZ on a map with an overlord shelf outside my natural pisses me off like nothing else (except DT drops but that's for another post). they seem completely unnecessary since the speed buff and they give zerg very useful scouting info with virtually no risk until 10+ minutes into the game.
i hate these things so fucking much that i have put together these highly professional infographics demonstrating why i think the natural overlord shelf should be relegated to the starcraft mapmaking compost heap with such inspired ideas as the cliff at the natural on lost temple and the low ground between main and 3rd on old TDA.
since the popular blogopshere is mostly just assembling vapid numbered lists these days, i present the most egregious offenders in countdown form. note that i am using a carefully calibrated 'f' to 'fuuuuuuuuuu' scale to rate each map, where more u's indicate more rage on a log scale.

also this thread was hilarious

haha =] as a zerg i should make one about scans or obs.

3/5 for your rage. 5/5 for your unwillingness to make a single viking. :D
Thanks for making our lives easier.

As a fellow terran player I'd also like to post my well-reasoned thoughts on this matter.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Vikings are for dumbasses, Gimp is for winners :DDDD In all seriousness vikings = stupid and take time away from making precious medivacs all 90000 of them over my deliciously marine heavy army MWUHAHAHAHA

At least terrans can lift buildings for spotters, toss has to wait for observers or stargate.
|
lol.
This was one of those good, funny, harmless sorts of rage posts. I enjoyed it.
You could make these for the other races too, easily for things like Scans, or Observers.

Haha, loved the penthouse comment in no.2.

lol yes. I found this post amusing also.

They should just make Overlords cloaked like observers instead.

Excellent blog. 5/5 for rage and hate. Die Overlord scum!

LOL - "As if this map isn't long enough already, any cheesy rushes have to hike the fucking Oregon Trail."
I see some players lift off a barracks to kill the overlord - before you swap addons, maybe?
|
I thought the blog was ok, until I looked at the pics. LOL, great job!
mad mspaint skillz
Maps should have these spots better identified, like a heliport or overlord parking space
|
As a Zerg player, I fucking LOVE Overlord shelves.
Had me laughing at the nature preserve thing
|
So much rage in those pics ahaha :D 5/5
Also yeah, fuck overlords.
|
im a zerg and this blog was awesome ahahaha fuuu comments had me laughing
|
I think once I scan an area it should keep scanning for 2-3 minutes instead of a few seconds tbh. Zerg can keep their overlord parking spots.

Brb, I'm calling Superouman. He has better arguments than me.
In other news, Starport tech is really hard to get and making a viking takes a lot of skill.
1/5 scrub

Heh, even as a terran I dont agree but I still found this really funny. :D
5/5 !

That's easy on Cloud Kingdom since you can build a rax at your natural choke and then lift it. On Daybreak, that overlord shelf is way too far away to do that. In either case, if you fail to kill the overlord, you'll eventually need to land your building and let the overlord come back.

i dont really wanna get in an argument about this because my post was mostly a joke (did you look at the pictures?) but this has come up a few times so i wanna talk a little bit about some actual thoughts:
'y u no float?' i usually open with the 1rax FE->reactor hellion->banshee style with fast 3rd OC. rax float is really not an option with this style. obviously the rax starts out walling the ramp to the main to stop any early chogolings runbys. the rax makes marines constantly up to 4 then builds a reactor for the fact, which i also prefer to keep in my main. after the reactor, it makes the techlab for the starport which, again, i want to hide as best as possible in my main. then it makes another tech lab after my first banshee (i go mech so i add 2 facts and give them that rax techlab plus the one from the starport after my 2nd banshee). so, by the time i have a building ready to float, i might as well just make a viking anyway.
'y u no viking? n00b' i do, but with the typical opener i describe above that viking comes out 10+ minutes into the game (edit: checked a couple replays, typical timing is slightly past 11 minutes). try to do it any earlier and it totally fucks up the build because fast 3rd CC is only safe if i can apply pressure with hellions and banshees - my only other units are 4 marines in a bunker until i start tank/thor production after the 2nd banshee. i'm not really sure why zerg deserves free scouting of my front up until that viking -- yes terran has imba scans, but they have a big opportunity cost (even more mega-imba mule) and they don't last indefinitely.
either way there is no way im making a viking in time to hide my 11/11 rax SCV pull or my 2base hellion/marauder all in.
anyway, i dont want to turn this into an actual TvZ debate because i think the matchup overall is fine, i just think that the overlord shelf is a big advantage that is no longer needed with overlord speed buffs. before the buffs a decent terran could snipe/redirect overlords with their first marine or two, now we cant, and that makes me all fuuuuuuuuuuu.
thanks all for the feedback, glad a lot of you liked it :D
|
I agree with you, but even if we had our overlords in plain sight, we'll still see your 2base hellion/marauder all in bro those guys can't shoot up.
I must say, I did find this most entertaining to read
