Now amoung my friends, only a few of us watch Starcraft. And of course, one of them's gone to China for the summer. I managed to persuade (beg) my other friend to come with me so I wouldn't be alone. Good thing too else I'd be lonely and rather embarassed with the outfit I was wearing. I took some pictures with my phone but the quality was worse than I expected, and I expected the quality to be pretty bad. Should've had my friend take all the photos with his Iphone.
Okay quick flashback. Now I have a Hwaseung Oz jacket from a few years back and I was absolutely going to wear it to this event. Then I was browsing old threads on teamliquid and stumbled upon this old gem.
I decided that I had to do piratezerg. Couldn't find fake moustache or beard so I made a makeshift eyepatch with a piece of cardboard and a broken set of earphones. Worked pretty well.
Me and my friend (henceforth known as Jiyeon (he made a fake korean name to sound cool)) found seats near the front (they were premium but we didn't know at the time). We got a cheerful board and thundersticks. God I love thundersticks. I could've brought my old Arena MSL thundersticks but couldn't find them. Anywhoo, the really nice dudes to our right let us use their marker but we couldn't think of anything so we put random scribbles that ended up not being useful at all.
There were only a few people who recognized my piratezerg costume. Initially I had a hat on as well but it blocked people's views behind me so I took it off.
Eventually we were asked to leave our premium seats but thankfully, there was an empty spot right in front of us. Jiyeon and I, along with a few others people in our row moved up to the empty spot in front of us. There were no chairs so we were sitting on the concrete but it was a great view.
From here we got a nice view of the red carpet, and Jiyeon actually tweeted a pic he took of MC running down the carpet for a nice price. Kingston Hyper X memory, 2 sticks of ram, 4 GB each.
Dunno how he won with this pic lol
Now later in the event, Clutch was asking anyone if they wanted to answer lore trivia for prizes. Now I'm not a big fan of the Starcraft story, but I do believe I know a lot about it. I decided to go for it, expecting it to be easy. I answered the first question trying to be all smart and sh*t. Then I got hit by the second question and got owned XD. Still got the prize though.
I look terrible in this pic but oh well.
Event went on. Everyone went CRAZY for Huk but unfortunately he lost T_T. But afterwards, while I was looking for Jiyeon who went autograph hunting, I bumped into Huk. He looked a bit depressed but he was still signing autographs and stuff, really cool dude.
Now, the rest of the day went on pretty normally. We had to leave early before Ret vs. Alicia but all in all, it was a good first day. Except the only autograph I had was Huk's. Day9 wasn't signing at any point so I was depressed. I also wanted Incontrol and Idra's but no go for that too.
Oh, and the two guys who sat in front of us were awesome. Just plain awesome. They shared pizza with us and chatted about the games. Really cool dudes.
Second day, I was determined to get an autograph from Day9. Though when we went in the venue, Tribes was still going on. All the good seats were full but after a bit of searching, we managed to find two seats near the back. We left some of our stuff there and went to Tim Hortons to buy some food. Long walk but we managed. And when we came back, lucky us, LiquidRet was outside talking to some people. He and a few others noticed my Oz jacket (thank god I brought it) and I dropped everything and asked him for an autograph.
Good quality since it was taken with Jiyeon's phone.
He was really cool about it. F*cking awesome. I forgot to wish him luck against MC however =(. I deeply regret not doing so.
Eventually, we decide to switch seats since we can't even see anything from the back. We rotate over to the left where the crane camera is. I manage to find a seat but there's no seat for Jiyeon. He goes somewhere and finds a seat, says it's really good so I follow him. He was right. Thankfully, I brought a sleeping bag. I remembered sitting on the floor all day on day 1 so I decided it'd be a good idea in case we had to sit on the concrete again. I was right.
Night goes on, Day9 starts commentating. Now in between games, people swarm him for autographs. I'm up front so I decide to as well. Final game of the series finishes, I go up and I'm right in front of him, however, he has to get off stage and brings his crowd with him. Though I was almost near the front, I end up near the back of the side of the crowd once Day9 moves to the side of the venue. I'm kinda bummed, but being the awesome individual Day9 is, he begins meeting with everyone and signing. Now, one of the admins for the event, tell Day9 that his crowd need to move so they don't block the stage. So while Day9 urges everyone to move back. Now I get a chance to move up closer. Though Jiyeon gets an autogrpah before me, I managed to be the last person he meets with before he temporarily leaves to do some official business.
Terrible first pic with my camera. Better pic with an official cam.
And yeah. Day9 was awesome. Asked him a few questions. Question number 1: You're awesome. Question number 2: Predictions for OSL (He's rooting for Jangbi). Question number 3: What kind of map would he like? Of course, as a mapmaker on break, I have to ask that for future reference.
Night goes on, and the Koreans congregate next to the stage talking to each other before NASL says thank you to them. Though no one was allowed to talk to them, I snuck in and managed to ask for an autograph from Hero in my half-baked Korean before I was asked to step away from the Korean pros by security. I felt awesome.
And of course, Scarlett crushed as did Stephano. I was in the crowd on the stage at the end and it was greattttttt. After that, we left, satisfied and happy. Great event.
I got them to sign my Oz jacket XD. Unfortunately, didn't get Incontrol and Idras's T_T.
