Indeed. Welcome to the age of Underground Brood War. The age of free FPV streams but also the age of lags and 240p. (If we're lucky!) Feel the power of oldschool as both the foreign and the Korean scene's dedicated organizers, casters and players bring you funny and deadly serious games, tournaments and leagues for your amusement only. While the stargirls might be missing... + Show Spoiler +
Forever in our hearts pants...
the passion is so overwhelming you won't be able to resist.
The amateur scene didn't just recently appear out of nowhere, it's a long story to tell and I'm going to offer you a short journey to help you taste it and hopefully convince you it absolutely deserves your attention.
The first part of this video is dedicated to the http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Portal:Foreign_Scene and includes highlights from the D Ranks Teamleague, fun community tournaments, somewhat gradually building up to the dominating competition such as the Altitude& or the currently ongoing Gambit& and of course the one and only - Sziky. There's still a lot missing simply due to the amount of various events one can get these days.
The second part looks up to the Afreeca scene and its "BJs" (popular casters). We've seen the Hodduk Starleague and Sonic&. We have also been priviliged enough to witness the play of In_Dove, Minus)Eagle and Larva on Twitch.TV. Now we can give back and cheer on them and many other of our heroes (HiyA, Mong, PerfectMan, Killer, Pusan and countless others) in the best BW competition in Korea.
Sonic's 7th BJ StarLeague kicked off just yesterday (actually some of the highlights come from the cast) and thanks to kjwcj's and bgvrt's restreams, you could enjoy group A featuring Pusan, Mong, Minus)zealOt and Force[Name] LIVE! Wait... you didn't? You can still watch the VODs (including FPVs!) but make sure you keep a close eye on the future casts, you can find the schedule in the thread!
Make sure you also head over here to learn more about SOSPA.
Congratulations, you made it to the end! Guess what? The second SSL cast just ended with Group B featuring Killer, PerfectMan, AsiaSin[ScM] and beast and Hiya as the co-host! In case you missed it, VODs will no doubt be accessible sooner or later thanks to all the restreamers (again we have some FPVs) IN OTHER GREAT NEWS: Sonic just started streaming on Twitch \.O./ + Show Spoiler +
Damn I'd love to invite you to all the BW events I follow and thoroughly enjoy but that would take a few more pages D: amazingly enough there's a lot more to the scene than the bits in the video. Sorry to all that's been left out...

Thought this could reach more people like this.. since a lot of them stopped visiting the BW forums/never been there. Would it be a bad idea to repost it there as well now? Or if a mod can move it up there feel free to, not sure where it's optimal :p
As someone who has never really played BW, nothing cheers me more than to see people playing it at a high level and really getting invested in the competition.
Even now, I can't believe Kiante beat 2pac. I cannot imagine, after all the trash talking, how that felt.
This is really bringing me back into the scene. I have to admit I considered leaving when the Korean scene was destroyed, but you guys are really making it hard. Time to get back on iCCup and ladder again?
Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more.

That was truly a great moment. Kiante is the next tossgirl. And Tossgirl has beaten Flash in practice. Thanks OP!

Kjwcj's stream is featured, bgvrt is not on TL at all, just twitch :T.. If you keep an eye on the calendar you should be able to see all the streams attached to the [SSL] event when live (if there are any). Make sure you have your calendar set to show BW events, currently 4 more casts are scheduled in the calendar.
Can't get to play the game, but if anything, watching VODs and streams always make for an enjoyable time for me. 5/5 lads, keep on going. Maybe at some point I'll grow a pair and join too!

I've heard tale of a completely baseless accusation that I just made up that Kiante paid 2pac to wait 2 minutes to sack 10 goons for nothing when he could have attack immediately with those same 10 goons and won immediately.. Truly a scandal to rival Savior's. Actually the best part of that VOD was Sayle and Kiante's ego fight keke
As a SC2-only Fan, I am completely not interested in this dying game. In fact, I wish that it would quickly die so that the good players can move on and master SC2 instead. But I appreciate you for trying to revive this niche market.

thanks....I guess.
but these people playing in this league are people who are not interested in SC2, its for people who are interested in Brood War.

It's understandable you would want more people to "move on" and play your game, but honestly I don't think many of the current pure BW players/fans would switch to SC2 if the scene died anyway. Most of them won't be interested or else they follow the game already. And if you consider the numbers our scene is slowly shrinking into, I don't think it's worth it to "fight" BW, make sure you don't mention it on stream or whatever someone might be thinking. Quite the opposite actually, as if you make sure the BW scene still lives in 2-3 years, it might be a good word in for SC2 as I understand the competition is tough.

You should absolutely join our skype group http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=272674 you can just add me on skype so I can invite you in.. sgs.stratos. We're active and there's a lot of helpful folks, made a lot of awesome friends there. You don't need to join the sgs team for that btw, it's more like an open community. Membership pretty much just helps you get games/practice on a similar level on iccup (clan messages).

Hey awesome man I'll check you guys out. I'm glad there's an active group on skype!
Woah nice video. I know how much work that is. One suggestion, try Adobe AfterEffects. It is harder to learn then Sony Vegas, but in the end it will shorten your time in the actual editing. Really worth it
I've been banned for a while for supporting BW, but looking these kind of effort made me want to come back to the website. I hope this could be something for others to start over when they realize that SC2 doesn't have the magic that BW had.
All of this whining and moaning about SC2 makes me want to heave. If you like BW great keep playing it, if not don't post shit like herp derp SC2 isn't as good as BW, they're different games and shouldn't be the same. BW is and will always be a great game, but it's time to move on. Stay classy gents.

I wonder whose alt this is .. I like how you say that if we like BW we should keep playing it, yet in the next sentence you tell us to "move on". Indeed, stay classy.
I'm really sick of all the fighting though, both sides of the camp need to really stop flinging shit at each other, regardless of how eloquently or politely worded it is.

Don't be an idiot nobody even talked about BW being better SC2. Say that BW is a better game straight up would be a lie anyway it's techinically a much better game, but there are certain qualities that are just missing in SC2 and let us enjoy them and the same goes for people who haven't played BW yet and might do so.
Great video! I never played SC1 or BW online (except for games with friends, and it was LAN) but I have this game since the premiere. It was something HUGE. My computer wasn't good enough to comfortably play - for some reason my AMD 486 DX4 120mhz was not compatible with SC :D - but it was payable - plus some crushes from time to time. No permanent Internet connection, so no online games.
Although imagine my surprise when I realize somewhere in 2002 (2003?) that Brood War became a sport in Korea!
Anyway, the truth is that I became fan of e-sport and Teamliquid forum member only when SC2 had premiere. BW may have been popular in Korea but it was never enough popular in Europe (don't know about rest of the world) to catch attention someone not really interested in competitive playing. So again imagine my surprise when I visited tl.net because of SC2 and I realized that BW has significant fan-base.
What I want to say is that BW non-Korean community is impressive. And I am happy that this amazing game (is it only a game?) is still alive and that still be.
Last thing. I am still in shock after all this years that BW was able to become e-sport competition. In 1998 there was Total Annihilation. I was only 13 at that time but I remember reviews and almost everyone... no, everyone!, was clear that TA is a better game, better designed, harder and so on. I don't know if I agree with that, I always preferred SC1/BW. Today it does not matter. TA is long gone, only biggest, and I mean biggest fans are still playing. BW is immortal
Awesome to see that your starting page is the SBWI-thread! When I watch this video I feel as if it is honoring the past times ( it made me think of my all time favorite BW video by nukethestars)
and at the same time showing us that the future of BW is bright with many recent really good games. Thank you for this, sir!
On Brood Bar (BW Barcraft) with SBWI on Sunday: Before Gambit's Cup starts I will use this as our hype-video!

Ohh man I watched these before, but I never looked up the song. Does anybody know anything similar?
Maybe Fluke - Absurd is a bit like the style that Syntax uses. Btw, dyo used Syntax - Destiny in the pG movie I think. Later that song was kind of associated with him.
I was thinking that there's even a really active AoE (1) community (over 8000 viewers on friendly matches), so I don't doubt you'll do well if you try your best.
Yes that's Pusan, excited after winning his games in SSL All the events included are recently finished or currently ongoing and I'm not aware of Day9's appearance in any of those.

Just dreaming then
This will be my fourth time listening to that dubstep song thanks a lot :D

Where I would love to see that! I loved AoE 1 to death!!!
The idea that Korean progamers quitting has killed BW is silly: I just booted up the game the other day, it ran, and I played some matches. In other words, BW can't die as long as people play it. Whether the players are elite or newb, whether they play for pay or for fun--the game is being played, the game is still alive.

Thanks, Stratos, for helping to keep BW alive.
Trust me the people playing in Gambit cup are pretty good. Factoring in the fact that this isn't their full time job. THEY ARE AMAZING at the game.
