I wake up after a drinking contest against Johnny, were at Ken's house, Johnny the Kitchen manager at the bar I work at is passed out in the bedroom, his face covered with puke. He's not breathing, no pulse either...
I'm only 18, an engineering student and I see a dead person, Johnny, my closest friend at my new job. Ken is too fucked up to even understand the situation telling me "Don't worry, he will wake up, he always passes out".
So like fuck, here I am alone, I know I should call the cops asap but Ken is really fucked up, and Johnny is turning pale, here I am sitting on the bed one moment staring out the window other minute looking at Johnny's face praying he will wake up. I called Kim to come, but fuck, what's going to happen to me.
RIP, still cannot believe my eyes.
Update -
So Kim did come, and she started yelling and screaming all over the place while I was in a more still but worrying/panicking on the inside, but she called 911 immediately and I didn't want her to because Ken is a good friend, and he did have mdma and weed in his house, and I was scared about the drug charges plus his 3 foot long bong that was in the middle of the living room. The fact that the puke on his face seemed pretty dry, made me realize this was 100% death, and I just thought what's the worst that could happen if the government or whoever picks up a dead person a few hours later, seemed like solid logic at the time, and Ken agreed with it.
Anyways, then an ambulance and two police cars showed up within 10 minutes, we called the cops probably 10 after my initial post. We drank until 5am (half a 2/6 of crown royal + 12 beers [whoever drinks more]) that day and this event started at maybe 10am-noon, but at that point I was still tripping over the place, point is I still have some alcohol left in my system, and the fact that I had nobody to help me and nobody would answer my calls made me... It was a difficult to stay in a good emotional state. Right now some are talking to Ken, and then they will come talk to me.
The cops put me in a good mental state when they kept telling me that everything is going to be okay and I wont go to jail, they just told me to try to remember as much as I can from last night and tell the 100% truth or I could be in trouble. So I'm feeling better, still shaken. I don't believe I did anything out of bad intention, so I'm just going to focus on being on the cops side and being 100%, and hopefully the worst that will happen is maybe a fine for the drugs.
They evacuated the entire floor of the apartment, because apparently the people on the floor entered the house (I think it's just one of his friends not random guy), and they are bringing everyone who was there last night. I'm surprised they are treating this like such an investigation when to everyone here it's just an accidental loss of a great friend. They need to talk to me now, ill updfate soon!

RIP I hope this is a recollection of past events, and that you called the cops shortly after. You aren't going to go to jail for this, you know. EDIT: WHAT THE FUCK!? So you were worried about drug charges, and so instead of calling 911, you let TL know about this shit?
|
All last night... I'm just trying to stay calm and waiting for Kim. Ken was doing mdma last night, and like I don't fucking know if he has more in his house.
And what happens? Do I just go to court a few times, tell them what happened? It's not as I was pressuring him to drink either. But fuck man, ugh Johnny .
|
Why aren't you calling the 911 and saying "My buddy doesn't look too good, maybe alcohol poisoning, maybe he's already dead, send an emergency vehicle please."
And who is Kim? If Kim is Canadian lingo for 911, nice. Otherwise, wtf are you doing?
|
Drinking has some evils, thats one of them. I'm sorry to hear that bro.
|
a real dilemma. I hope he is alive.
What reason would they have to connect you to him doing mdma? you were just hanging out with them.. Then again i don't much about laws.
|
If you know he is dead, and you are not calling the police etc, then you could get into some trouble. Don't just sit there like a moron, call 911 and get someone over there asap.

If you didnt immediately call a paramedic and do your best to ressucitate him then you're very likely responsible for his death. People can be "dead" for minutes with no longterm adverse affects if you take actions ASAP, but it's not good at all if you actually sat there while he was unconscious and didnt do anything.

call police now. The longer you wait the worse.

Exactly what I posted, but edited it out, as people in these situation are known to panic and do irrational things.
|
This is really fucked up, please call the police or get some sort of help outside of Team Liquid.
RIP
|
holy shit, call ambulance asap and try to revive him wtf. Dont let that be on your conscious (that said, he is prolly dead a long time ago so dont feel guilty at all).
|
I'm hours late but I sincerely hope that you didn't just sit down next to a dead/dying guy and started posting on TL. I hope that you called 911 before you started doing this other shit.
|
Im sure TL can help you with this dilemma.
|
Trouble is, since you went and posted this and apparently did not call an ambulance or emergence services in any way, you might actually get slammed hard with this, instead of maybe getting something minor or not at all.
|
Jesus christ dude why did you not call 911. Like seriously, I hope you don't regret this later if you find out you could have prevented something.
|
I'm gonna leave you alone for a bit, just so you can think over your actions of going to TL instead of... oh... I don't know... Actually doing something like calling 911?
The hell is an online forum going to do for you?
|
Friend is dying.
Must notify SC2 forums.
There is a nice number you can dial.
911
|
Go to a shrink. You have serious problems if you contact TL rather than calling the police / ambulance. Or you have serious problems joking about such a topic.
Since you posted an update I retract my earlier statement. Now: Contact a lawyer. You're probably save, but you never know.
|
did he choke on his sick then?
|
Thanks for the update. It's great that you were willing to protect your friend from minor drug charges by potentially letting the other guy die. I hope that all my friends are like you and give that little value to my life.
The guy collected years of experiences, had friends and family, he probably had expectations for the future and plans for tomorrow and the next few days. But he never woke up. And when he died, his friend didn't even try to save his life over some bullshit misdemeanor garbage. That's the saddest thing.
|
Please, please for your sake hire a lawyer and don't talk to the cops before he is there. Countless idiots every year get huge fines + jail time up to prison for life due to stupid confessions when they aren't actually guilty of anything.
Your friend drank/smoked to much, probably chocked on his own vomit and died. The weed was in a house that is not yours. All they can really prove is that you were there drinking last night. If you fuck up an blabber something out of stress they can charge you with murder if you are unlucky.
Shut up and call a lawyer for all that is scared. They don't have the right to physically harm you and you aren't forced to talk to them.

If this is true this is fucking insanity.
|
This story is kind of disturbing not only because it involves drugs and death, but also because of your urge to share it with TL before calling 911.
Then again, I've had a similar reaction when something bad happened to me. People are addicted to posting crazy stuff on the internet, and it's getting crazier and crazier.
|
Guys calm down, some dude fucking died it's pretty easy to make stupid mistakes when shit you are 100% unprepared for suddenly happens. OP i hope you will be alright! even if you did something stupid you definitely are not responsible for his death or anything don't blame yourself.
|
sorry, i know i'm supposed to be supportive, but the OPs reaction kind of pissed me off. you come to an internet forum to report the death and then state how you're worried about the possession of contraband goods so you waited until kim came over to call 911. irritating.
|
|
seriously?
I refuse to believe the OP would post a blog on an internet forum with his friend dying/dead in the room.
sorry. calling bullshit. link newspaper obituary or something.
no sane human being would act like this in such a situation.
|
damn. stuff like this makes me scared to drink!
|
In most cases, you don't even go to jail in Canada for recreational drug possession.... unless you're a dealer, but then this is a different story. It'd be less than $1000 fine, depending on the judge. I think the saddest part of this whole thing is that this thread was started before the 911 call I would ask to have this thread deleted, were I in your shoes.

no sane human being would act like this in such a situation. Of course they do. I believe they call it "criminal negligence".

so he gets his laptop or phone and spends however long composing a couple paragraphs about how he doesn't know what to do? on TL? his mind goes to a starcraft website and not a trusted friend, parent, or family member?
just find that hard to believe

just find that hard to believe Heh, I believe it. But who knows, maybe you're right.
|
I'm surprised at everyone flipping out at the guy for posting on TL before calling 911. It's 100% the wrong decision...but this guy was in a seriously fucked up emotional state. I doubt he was even remotely close to rational, still drunk, and freaking the fuck out. He even said no one would answer his calls, so he probably posted here more as a calming thing than anything else.
Yea, it was definitely an absurd order of actions/priorities but I don't expect rational behavior by any means in a situation as crazy as this.
|
I guess I just figured I wasn't the only one who's seen this happen multiple times before. I understand panicking by posting on TL is high level panicking to the point where it's reprehensible.
|
You don't got much to worry about, you obviously didn't kill the guy. Police will ask questions on what happened and maybe do some paper work? My brother died 2 years ago from drugs/alcohol on a friday night and his bud didnt phone the police until saturday night. The authorities don't really look into drug/alcohol related deaths.
|
Sounds like he drowned on his own vomit. That's why you have to make sure drunk people are sleeping on their side.
|
I hope everything turns out fine and you can use this experience later in life.

It is still possible that bits of your vomit can get stuck in your throat and choke you even while you are on your side. Less probable yes! But not less probable than not drinking till you vomit.
Edit: And oh if you wake up and you see someone you "think" is dead, just immediately call 911, it should not be a question of the situation or if you think you may get into trouble, you get in more trouble for not calling 911 when you should.
I had an experience one summer in highschool where I was out at 1 am buying coke with a bunch of my "friends" and we ended up getting pulled over for speeding after we had bought an 8-ball. It was 4 17-18 year old boys and a 16 year old girl in a white honda civic at 1 in the morning. My friend with the coke ate the 8-ball (baggie and all) and then they proceeded to take us out of the car 1 by 1 to ask us questions. We all played it pretty cool and eventually let us go. We get back to my friends to smoke because we will no longer be doing the yeyo and we make sure our friend forces himself to vomit it up.
The point of my telling that story has nothing to do with the fact that he was perfectly fine (he could have died). Its 6 years later and I still feel shitty that we didn't call an ambulance and we basically took his life for granted. This is someone (actually all of them) that I would not consider a friend today or even the past few years. But I still feel bad about making a poor choice to try and save face.
Someone once told me "You cannot save your ass and your face at the same time" and I really really believe it. It seems like whenever I tried, it always found a way to comeback and bite me in the ass.
Anyways I am glad it wasn't you OP and I really hope you can get over this and not blame yourself for actions you AND your friends were both willing to make.

Get a lawyer asap. Don't talk to the cops. Sorry if it is a bit late for that, but don't believe nice acting cops that they are here to help. They will do their job, if you talk in your confused state of mind you might do irrational things like posting on teamliquid that you'd rather hide drugs than call to report a dead body. Lawyer, Lawyer, Lawyer.

True that, the only right thing, but i am still shocked how your priorities could be so wrong...
Now you might have found out that you are still not adult enough for alcohol and weed.
