The player I played against says he's Telecom; eSpi.EvertOss was his ID, his bnet profile checks out. Here's his iCCup profile: http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/gamingprofile/espi.evertoss.html However, it might not be him; could be someone pretending to be him for whatever reason? He's known as GGZerG on these forums.
The day dawned, and a few hours later I rose from my slumber, ready to face another day. The time was approximately 9am NZST, and I hopped onto iCCup ready to face the horde of Protoss opponents that were ready to prevent my rise to fame. Now, my game of life required me to practice some Brood War before I could get any rewards, such as playing a DotA-style map I enjoy called Temple Siege. With the D Ranks Team League 4 coming up fast, I had to get into tip top shape. After playing a game against a charming fellow who appeared to be as high as a bird, giving me a large quantity of nonsense about eating cookies in one mouthful, while he 4gated me and died to mass lings, I mused on the lack of the iCCup ranking system. Nomming away on my muesli as I played, I finished up and hopped back into the op Teamliquid channel, my home away from home.
Someone called eSpi.EvertOss sent me a "hi" to which I responded in a friendly manner, "hi" back to him. Now, this person and I had a short chat the previous day, in which he informed me he was Telecom, aka GGzerG. Now, Telecom is someone of (dis?)repute in the SCBW world, as he was part of many famous Korean clans, allegedly. So presumably he was extremely gosu; I had asked him for some advice which he gave me, and it seemed reasonable enough. Today, however, he challenged me to mortal kombat!
I hosted Wind and Cloud, one of the more recent additions to the iCCup map pack, and a very nice map created by Rose.Of.Dream. He wasn't familiar with the map, but I informed him that the naturals were vertical, either above or below the main base, and as there is very little non-standard on the map, we proceeded to play. He, of course, played as Protoss, while I am the mighty Zerg! + Show Spoiler +
I spawned in the bottom right corner, while he was in the bottom left corner.
I opened with an overpool into 11hatch. I sent my overlords to scout and a crossmap drone to see if he was there, which he was not. I concluded he had to be at the bottm left of the map, and as I had a pair of zerglings on the way, I sent my drone immediately to the top right natural to place my third hatch. My timings were looking good, until I forgot my overlord at 16. Oh well, 18 is a higher number than 16 so it must be better!~ (yeah that drone isn't mining >.>)
We noticed that there were a few lag spikes, but it was quite playable as long as the lag spikes didn't happen at crucial moments, so we carried on.
I killed his scouting probe with my gosu ling placement on the ramp, as I started my fourth and fifth hatcheries. My timings weren't perfect but he didn't seem to be sending zealots to harass just yet so I was fine.
...or was I...
his 2 zealots harassing my third gave me some pause but I made a few zerglings and killed his zealots, so they only managed 2-3 drone kills and a couple of zergling kills. Still, at this stage that's useful harass for him. Anyway, I had my hydralisk den and evo chamber up, and my second gas. Lair had completed and my spire was on the way, along with zergling speed.
He started his third base up, while harassing my third again with some zealots and dark templar. But I was well prepared, with my simcity up to scratch (practiced that with the lovely sB.icedraco, thanks my friend!) I knew his third would be going down at about this time, so I started mass hydralisk production as I took my fourth, and sent them to take out his third. I took out most of the cannons, but...
...most of his probes ran away and the Nexus remained standing after all that work.
I continued to harass, taking out several corsair with a fleet of scourge, and killing yet more units, but his storms and dark templar drove me away.
My persistance did not go unrewarded! Finally I was able to take down his third. He had already started preparing for his fourth base, but my scouting zergling took down his probe and I was suddenly in a strong position! I threw down two more hatcheries at my fourth in celebration. The kegs of beer would be opened tonight!
But he destroyed all my lurkers And my hydralisks ((
One of my hydralisks found his top left base he was making, so my massive new army of hydralisks went up there to kill it, which they did quite easily. However, his reflexes were sharp and he caught my army before they were able to get down from the high ground. Storm blender ;( That's 40+ hydralisk bodies right there. Rest in peace, my brothers.
Here's the reason I wasn't able to micromanage those hydralisks: A counterattack to his natural! Didn't do much damage, but one of my current goals is to multitask effectively, so I was happy that I pulled it off while denying his fourth. I also took my fifth base at this time.
yaaaa plaguuu! That's my other objective in this game: use plague. I'm very bad at using it but it's so useful vs protoss particularly. So at least I got off one plague in the entire game. However, he still has a massive supply lead and I just lost my entire army...I'm somewhat dubious as to my chances of success at this stage. Still, I have 9 hatcheries! Anything can happen.
He seemed content to sit back and probe up with his two new bases at the top left, which he desperately needed. He was very good at keeping his minerals low compared to me, but soon he had a maxed out army. He kills my base, and my army. But meanwhile...
MULTITASK! Double lurker drop at his two new bases, denying all his mining! And killing most of his probes. It's super effective! I lost a base, he lost two, for a while at least.
I scrounged up a massive army, and while I dropped four lurkers and a control group of cracklings in his main, I also engaged his massive army with mine! Ultralisks pretty good yo! He cleaned up my drop very quickly though, nice reflexes. But I cleaned up his entire army!
With my suddenly strong position, I kill his third (again) and his fourth, with swarm and ultraWINsks!
Apparently I'm trash. Except I'm from New Zealand, so it's rubbish, not trash. And some rubbish just smashed Telecom without difficulty, in the first long game I've had in 2-3 months, in ZvP, my weakest matchup. And I'm a D+ noob who's been playing 1v1 BW for less than a year.
He then proceeded to ragequit, and gave me some charming whispers later:
I couldn't have done this without the help of my coaches, NinaZerg and TechnicS. Also, shoutout to sB.icedraco again for helping me set up good simcities on this map when we practiced previously, and the entire Stealth Bunnies team for being awesome and practicing with me lots. If I forgot to thank anyone, I apologize. Telecom's asked me for a rematch. I will certainly consider it.
I actually ventured into op eSpi last night, because I was having difficultly finding games on Ladder C (It was really well-populated, just everyone was C- or B- at that time xP) and saw a [t3] hanging out in that channel. "Hm, weird." I thought, because eSpi is a Peruvian clan. I guess it makes sense now!
I would like to see you be a bit more greedy with taking that 4th base, just in case you can't deny the Protoss third base. Normally, noob players can't defend it because they become easily overwhelmed by a lot of incoming units, but the whole Protoss mid-game revolves around taking and holding their third, so a good toss won't let you deny it so easily. Once you get to better multi-tasking, you can do a zergling run-by and do some damage to the interior of the protoss base and put them behind, and then once they go to take their third, you'll be ahead enough to make it impossible. But please, don't rush to pump hydras just for the possibility of denying their third base.
GENERALLY, a good rule to follow is to deny the third with zerglings if possible, but if not, there's no need to commit a group or two of units to attack that will just die to high templar. On Wind and Cloud, it's a bit easier to deny their third because it sits on the low ground.
Can't 5/5 this enough. The situation in itself deserves it, but the battle report is also very well done and the game is entertaining. I have no doubt you will reach C- really soon

Presumably Telecom will eventually read/respond to this.
If so, I have a serious question for you Joey. Unlike alot of the community I have no history with you, and no reason to dislike you. In fact, from what I have seen you've made some efforts to do good things for the community as well.
I've read before posts from you where you lament the fact that the community dislikes you and that you are vilified. The question then, is why do you do stuff like this?
You ask him for a game, and then he wins. Then you proceed to flame him for like 30+ messages. He did not BM you, he didn't insult you, he won a starcraft game (maybe he even got lucky to do so). Your response makes no sense. Why on earth would you act that way. If this is normal behavior you (note: I'm NOT saying it is), then it is obvious why people hate on you so much; and you should probably stop complaining until you can act like a normal person.
If this isn't typical behavior for you, then why did you act this way?

I'm wondering the same thing. I remember that grudge match that he had with randomKo_Orean and wondered what could've provoke such a reaction lol. Since this is BW, there is a big difference in skill between the different levels so can't be luck based or less so than SCII imo. Anyways, wonder if we'll see the potato cast XD

it's 100% typical behavior for him from my experience vs him in sc2

That he won against a superior opponent(of rank) only to get BM'd and wanted to share? lol. At least that's what it looked like the purpose was
Honestly, for people who are more familiar with Telecom, SnowFantasy's comments are pretty well warranted.
Fair enough. I'm not that familiar with him but I saw the other threads and kinda got understood what seems to be happening and such so ya, I can see his comment now.

For people who have no idea who Telecom is they make even more sense.
Imagine if someone made a thread every time they got BM'd on iccup. There is no point to it.
Eh, I thought it was less about the BM though and more about him beating someone that's presumably on a much higher level than him. Granted, I would never have made a battle report of that one game that I took off of Octzerg (the shortest lived victory ever), but I think the BM just adds a nice flavor to the main dish.
It was a decent match, that in of itself is worth a great Battle Report with pics. That he beat a well-known BM player at the same time was merely icing on the cake.
Well , everything is going as planned and you made the post sooner than I expected you too, now the real question after making a blog like this is, when are you going to have the balls to set up a Grudge match or even play me again?......
And I think we all know what the answer to that is.
See, it was all a brilliant plan to lose, and then BM Birdie incessantly, in order to get Birdie to post about it on TL, so GGzerG could *then* try to BM Birdie some more about not having the balls to play a Grudge Match! Don't you see how selfless GGzerG is? He sacrifices his own sense of self-respect, to get people interested in otherwise pointless grudge matches to keep the foreign BW community alive!
All hail GGzerG, everything is proceeding as he has foreseen. Wait, if he planned to lose the match to draw attention to Birdie's true cowardly nature, is that considered match-fixing? Drama!
Yes everything is going accordingly and sooner than expected, now we just need to set the stakes , time and date, but of course he will DODGE, because we all know I don't lose grudge matches....

Or possibly you're not so famous that we know anything about you at all. This is the first I've ever heard of you, so if this is all your 'plan' then I hope you really believe there's no such thing as bad publicity!

This right here; I came into the match expecting to get absolutely smashed. I was totally relaxed because of that, just wanted to show Telecom some nice play and see if I could learn something. Winning vs a player who's 3 divisions higher at least is a pretty awesome feeling :D

The answer is...sure! It's always fun to play against superior players, and even though I most likely will lose I'd enjoy bringing doom and destruction to the dastardly Protoss! Although if you want to play Terran for the match I'm happy to show you my ZvT too But I don't think you'll have the balls to do that, even though I'm a puny D ranks player. I'm free on (NA date) Thursdays and Fridays, although my university starts next week so if we can get this thing done tomorrow or the day after that'd be nice. If you have Skype then add me, JackRCDF.
ok, my skype is TelecomRG. but I can't use skype all the time because of resolution, why do you want to add me on skype anyways...so you think people would want to see you play vs me ? because I don't. just let me know when you want to play
