As you know, I have recently taken up the duties of premaking LR OPs while opterbot recharges his batteries opterran regains his passion opterown studies medicine to find a cure for SC2 <3. Premaking OPs is actually pretty easy and I've gotten a hang of things by now.
I do, however, experience some difficulty with regards to schedules, player information, and the like. I don't have the time to endlessly check every relevant SC2 website in order to find the info that I need, since I do this during my downtime at work. I suppose part of the difficulty I experience is my need to premake the OPs a week in advance, due to my downtime availability being somewhat volatile and partially consumed by watching SC2 (gotta keep that esports passion alive) and working on previews/recaps.
Right now, I have to check bnet's WCS schedule, ESL's website, GOMtv's website, NASL's website, ATC website, (and when a tournament is coming up, DH/MLG/WCG/etc websites) and liquipedia just to make sure I find everything and that everything is correct. Bnet's schedule doesn't include non WCS events, and doesn't have much information (which I find from the other sites I mentioned) aside from broadcast dates. Liquipedia is usually a good place to find info, but it doesn't have a chronological schedule.
So, I realized that I need a secretary. Basically, someone who will tell me what OPs I need to do and the relevant information for those OPs. This will give me more time to find ways to improve LR OPs, contribute to previews/recaps, and actually do some work at work lol
What I need: A secretary who will remind me what OPs I need to do and give me the information I need to make them When I need him/her: As soon as possible Why I need him/her: Because it is too time consuming to research everything myself Benefits: Possible the gratitude of thousands of people but more likely around 12 people. Maybe if you do a good job I'll gift you TL+? esports dollars?
Duties of my LR OP Secretary
1. Update this googlegocs spreadsheet: http://goo.gl/QtRZua Basically it is a spreadsheet that should list all tournaments needing a premade OP in chronological order. The column headers show what information I need. My secretary needs to update this spreadsheet as soon as information becomes available, or at the latest a week before the tournament date.
Tournaments that need LR OP premaking: WCS KR WCS AM WCS EU Proleague GSTL ATC IEM DreamHack MLG ASUS ROG Other premier and major tournaments
2. Update the LR OP Schedule: http://goo.gl/qc4eD Just put dates and times and links, and no probs. This isn't important though since nobody actually uses it, even though we definitely should.
3. Do lots of research, and make me aware when new information is available.
4. Remind me whenever there are tournaments that don't have an LR OP premade yet
5. Tell me if I have made any mistakes in the LR OPs
6. Basically that's it. It's pretty easy. You just need to do a lot of researching and update spreadsheets for me.
So, yeah. I need a secretary. I just need someone super responsible and reliable who won't make mistakes and update in a timely manner. I'd prefer if you answer the following questions:
Time Available: (answer in hours and your timezone) Expected Frequency of Updating: (daily? twice a week? etc) Expected Unavailability: (tell me when you might be unavailable to update, like a forthcoming vacation or if this is a temporary gig for you) Favorite Teams and Players: Dirty dirty Parting and Startale fans need not apply. Just kidding :p
Thanks to anyone thinking about helping out. <3
Final Note: No this is not a troll blog

Sounds like a great idea although I had a good laugh when I was reading the thread title XD Also, best parts: "Benefits: Possible the gratitude of thousands of people but more likely around 12 people. Maybe if you do a good job I'll gift you TL+? esports dollars?" "Favorite Teams and Players: Dirty dirty Parting and Startale fans need not apply. Just kidding :p" "Final Note: No this is not a troll blog" lol. GL!

Wish I had the time

I will do it on 2 conditions. The first condition is that I don't have to tell you the second condition until you agree to hire me.

If I didn't mislead then no one would read :<
More accurate title: "Volunteer to do lots of work without any compensation: LR OP Secretaryperson and researcher. Because esports."

was going to apply but then I saw you're not allowing parting fans, oh well. at least I got my new signature out of this post.

Good idea, I think I'll hire a secretary who will instantly inform me whenever Mvp's Challenger League bracket is posted.
|
I suppose I could do it, seeing as I look up these informations anyways and I'm a lazy student who's at home all day.
Time Available: 09:00 - 23:00 CEST Expected Frequency of Updating: probably close to daily, maybe missing a day here and there because I have to study for a test. Expected Unavailability: Nothing in October, will notice about anything coming up. Can begin tomorrow

Does it have to be one secretary for everything? I could probably help out with keeping you up-to-date with some European events but I don't have the time for all the events. Maybe you could have a secretary each for the tournaments, so there would be one person to keep you up-to-date about Proleague, another for ATC, another for WCS events (possibly 3 if you split up into the regionals too), ...
It would mean relying on more people but it would be asking a lot less of each volunteer. So long as each volunteer knew which tournament(s) they were helping with then there shouldn't be any clashes or gaps due to miscommunication (when secretary A thought secretary B was doing something for example).

I love seeing the lr stuff so organized. <3

Having multiple people sounds like a possibility. I am worried about relying on too many people though; might get confusing. There could also arise problems with regards to accountability, uniformity, and others. I'm not necessarily looking for just one person, but I want whoever volunteers to be in it for the long haul and commit completely to ensuring everything is perfect in the land of LRs.

is it really that bad that its come to this?

I like PartinG though
EDIT: 2-3 months ago I would've signed up, but I've been actively trying to lessen the amount of time I spend on TL so I actually get schoolwork done...

If I didn't have two jobs Lichter I'd be so all over this, like something that's all over stuff. If I can cut down to one job like I'm planning I'll let you know. stupid rent and bills... Killing esports.

I can do it solo, but I am taking opterown's advice of not burning myself out. The less I have to do the longer I'll feel like doing it, probably.

It use to be that bad for me during beta when I entered those online tournaments every 2 days, sometimes 2 in 1 day.
Anyways, I did manage to get a friend to do it, with some manipulation. Hard to balance real life with a tournament that often though.

Honestly, I would volunteer, but I am too far behind in e-sports, have too little time and my internet is too bad. Sad panda.

Its also complacency, before everyone wanted to make a LR thread. As time went on and the thread became more professional and cleaner. Less and less people want to take the responsibility until we end up with a small handful of people doing it by themselves. No one wanting to join in or take over for a multitude of different reasons.

I did try to make a tool so that other people can make them
I dunno. I wish I had time to help with this kind of thing. Its just that between school and my other shit I honestly don't. GL with your search lichter.

It's the reason why no "TLLiveReportBot" has ever been made. We still want it to be a community thing, but we want more people to volunteer to do it. It's not really a closed group and we actively encourage people to be creative with OPs. I personally don't care if they use the OPs I premake, as long as they make a good OP.
Also lol at the people saying "I'd help but I can't" T_T

I feel like lots of people probably don't realize that its something that they're highly encouraged to do, and that the threads don't have to be the well oiled perfection that you churn out regularly (not that thats a bad thing btw).

Well we're not desperate yet. LR threads aren't an official part of TL (though perhaps bordering on integral). I also don't have time to make a "hey you should volunteer for LR threads" feature lol

before that it was basically a torch that kept passing from person to person, MrCon then seeker then opterown.

There was a time early on when there were always random people who wanted to do LR threads. I think it lasted a couple of months. There were times when LR threads were up days or a week in advance because someone wanted to do it before anyone else. There were never tournaments that needed last minute threads. It didn't last and it was of course a tiny minority of posters. Of course that was way back when we only had GSL and weekend tournaments so it was much easier.
But yeah basically it's now a torch being passed.
