…but I don’t want them ANYWHERE near my video game experiences!
Let’s take a big knife and cut through this giant apple to the core of the issue; ladies, it’s time you took to your perfume room or dressing chamber or chaise-longue or whatever it is you do with your spare time and left eSports to the menfolk.
Be honest, have you ever lost to a girl at anything? Me neither. Unless it’s arguments about wallpaper patterns or curtains or what time the kids should stay up until or whether it’s ok to let them play with my shuriken collection. In which case – fair enough – that’s a ladies domain and you’re gonna lose. But whatever, it’s a shit domain. It’s like in a game where there’s a dude who is the King of a shithole and he’s like “THIS IS MY DOMAIN” and I want to say “that’s fine your domain is ass” but that dialogue option is never offered.
When I said “have you ever lost to a girl at anything” just then at the start of that paragraph by the way I was talking to the men reading this. Any women reading this will have lost to each other a TON because they have to play girl sports like netball and field hockey but I mean, a mouse would probably beat another mouse at a lifting contest, and that sure as heck doesn’t mean she could then go toe-to-tiny-toe with the Hulk, does it?
Just because a mouse – or a woman – is good at a thing doesn’t mean it/she should be allowed to play with the big dogs, aka MEN.
Let’s look at games. Take a game like, say, Dota 2. I’ve probably played with women only three times ever and every time it was fucking miserable. They whine and moan and talk about flowers. The whole time we’re laning the girls are literally looking at the little squirrels that run around the Dota map and going “awwww” and I’m like “YO. STACK AND PULL. AND HOW BOUT A DANG SAMMICH” but they didn’t listen, and when one of them mis-cast her ultimate she blamed her nails.
WHAT THE ACTUAL.
Which brings us to tournaments. If I was starting an eSports tournament there’s a few simple rules but the main one is “no women”. I’d probably call them “females” which kinda puts them in their place a bit more. “No females”. I think the word ‘women’ is too empowering because it has the word ‘men’ in it. ‘Females’ implies they are mere animals for breeding and I like it that way.
But then again ‘females’ is the word ‘males’ with the word ‘fe’ stuck on the front.
‘Fe’.
If you said that it sounds like someone who doesn’t give a shit.
“Hey let’s go to the shops.” “Fe.” “Fuck you then.”
The fact that ‘fe’ is the chemical symbol for the element iron is hilarious because it’s actually so IRONIC and it also involves iron. Iron is the toughest thing aside from adamantium (like Wolverine’s skeleton) I mean…..that’s the sort of revelation men have on a daily basis. Do women? No.
Would one of them come up with an idea that would change the meta? No. Would one of them say “team, I’m taking void offlane and getting and aghs”? if they did, in a word I’d be STUNLOCKED if one of them ever said that. I’d just stand there dumbfounded and wonder if this was a ventriloquist or something.
They cannot compete with men so why let them? I already know the result and so do you. It’s pointless. It’s like having an arm wrestling contest between a bear and a blueberry muffin. The muffin is fucked. The bear is gonna eat that muffin and then fuck its muffin girlfriend in the butt. Why subject me, the viewer, to that? (Although I can’t pretend I wouldn’t be curious about watching a bear fuck a muffin in the ass)
So yeah. Let’s keep women out of our man competitions or Manpetitions if you like. Dudetests. CHAPionships.

To me it seems like you are uncomfortable around women.

I... um...... what happened to make you this way?
|
seems like satire on the iesf decision to host several male-only tournaments.
|
It's not really that funny ... everyone can imitate barbarians in an attempt to prove something , and it's not that everyone who is against women in e-sports think this way. My argument against it that if a woman is good enough to compete, she should, but the fact that people will glorify them for doing nothing but being female is very disturbing. Imagine a caster casting a Na'vi game and joking about Xboct being (4) or yolo or doing a bad move... now imagine if Xboct was female in that situation ... you would get 20k posts about sexism by the 3 female viewers and 19997 white knights , everything would turn into a bigger disaster than it already is... everything positive or negative about that female player/players would somehow be sex related ... Dendi didn't chase Hotchick2019? It's because she's hot. Na'vi constantly ganks Hotchick2019? It's because they think that the chick is their weakness, sexist pigs! Lets have a view of 4guysandHotchick2019 , 20 minutes of camera on Hotchick2019. It might eventually end up being normal and tolerated , but for about a year chaos would rule.

1) People are glorified for reasons that could be argued to be bad all the time. For not coming from Korea. For playing a certain race. For using certain strats instead of others. For switching races. For having a personnality. For biting italian players. Side-glory is not a problem, it's just sports fact. 2) Typically the situation you're describing isn't likely to happen in eSports unless the comment of the caster warrants it. Remember when Terry interviewed that guy in the audience because he was black and got fired for it? He got support from the majority of the community, not hate. 3) If there is a sexist reaction to the presence of a woman here, the problem is the sexist reaction, not the presence of the woman... (to think I have to say that ~~)

Javus, you have a real problem of sexism. I want to believe you are goodhearthed toward women, but the fact remains.
People are glorified for a lot of reasons, and in most cases nobody really makes a list. For instance we all know that pro-player popularity and their "merits" are very loosely related. Beeing handsome, english-speaking, funny, charismatic, etc... matters equally if not more in a lot of cases. But again, in most cases nobody cares, and if someone's does I will often try to rationalize his/her taste (often rightfully so), ie he/she will find that "interacting with the stream audience" actually is a skill, and that his/her favorit streamer diserves his/her popularity in the end. Quite unsurprinsingly, this concern became a real problem when those new comers are from an underrepresented gender/race/...
But let me joke a bit with your statement : "My argument against it that if a foreigner is good enough to compete,he should, but the fact that people will glorify them for doing nothing but being foreigner is very disturbing."
In fact, it's not a joke at all. The comparison is not that unworthy. Think about the "korean environment effect": you are included in a peer group that strongly promote competition, while entitling you to be a part of it. You live surounded by people who share your passion and are ready to walk the road with you. If you are a foreigner, you have to make such a long trip to find that kind of people and gather with them. IN most cases it just doesn't happen or doesn't happen enough, and you never raise to your "true" level. In e-sport community women are the foreigners among the foreigners...

It's satire or trolling for sure as you can tell from the goofy examples, but I didn't derive any enjoyment from it.
There are people who think like that and we can laugh about them, certainly. Have to write funny things though.

If this is satire then it's not especially cleverly written.
If it's not then it's written by a rather dull, rather unfortunate sexist who also happens to have poor writing skills.
Either way, it's not good.

That's done to bring attention to otherwise wouldn't compete at the top level, like for example if there is a NA only sc2 tournament you will see a lot of names you wouldn't otherwise see. IMO it's mostly just done for the competitors though. It's nice to have an avenue of competition that is a little more around your level, like amateur leagues in any real sport.

IMO it's mostly just done for the competitors though. It's nice to have an avenue of competition that is a little more around your level, like amateur leagues in any real sport. it's also done because females are made to feel so uncomfortable in male-dominated fields by constant jokes and harassment. ever join twitch chat while zombiegrub is casting something? every 20th message is "IS THAT A GIRL CASTING???" at best and "ZOMBIEGRUB IM GONNA FUCK YOUR TITS" at worst
giving women a place to compete without having to worry about being "OMG That One Girl" is a way of encouraging the scene to grow amongst women. like you said, it's the same reason there are region locked tournaments and tournaments that bar high level players; to give the rest of the world a safe and comfortable way to get involved
also, the conception that women are adulated and rewarded for playing starcraft at lower levels is ridiculous. the extra attention they get is not some kind of manipulative female design; it's a byproduct of the fact that tons of male gamers are creepy nerds who can't handle watching a woman take up a "male" interest without frothing incoherently at the mouth. if you don't want a master level girl to get as much attention as a grandmaster guy, then stop MAKING it a big deal that she's a girl. if people are tuning in to her stream to see her tits, that is the fault of the viewer, not the fault of the girl for being a girl. i personally love to follow female gamers not because i want to creep on them but because i think it's a fun and cool underdog story and a sign of changing times for women to be able to succeed in stereotypically male fields.

This poster has no idea of how the strengths of men-women are different but complementary.
Yes you are good at games, and most females are not. Men are programmed to conquer, defeat, achieve with one goal in mind and a lazer focus. This makes us good at singular tasks during things like games, sports, careers, etc.
Women are good at other things. They can sense when there is a threat to their families or person that is mostly invisible to men. It's like a 'sixth sense', or 'women's intuition' so-to-speak. They are great multi-taskers and can deal with many different little problems at once. They have a nurturing spirit that is a gift to the children they raise who are the next generation. Think little Johnny goes to dad when they get a boo-boo? No, it's mom they call for.
You think these skills are worthless? You are not thinking about the goals of a family unit. To raise the next generation. You have only your single male perspective. It is naive and it is clear you have not been in a long-term relationship with a female, let alone had the resposibility of raising kids and having the 'birds-eye-view' of how a family is run in the long term.
It takes both male and female to do this effectively, and together we are greater than the sum of the parts. Get out of your tiny little box and look at the bigger picture.

For the rest it's a subpar blog for the featured section. It's not funny, and there doesn't seem to be another catch than the satirical element. Seeing the posthistory of this particular user, i have little faith that the level will increase.

ijab
For the rest it's a subpar blog for the featured section. I know it's misleading and no one has bothered to fix it yet, but featured blogs does not mean individual entries, it means the whole blog aka the blogger is featured. I could post an empty blog and it would show up in the featured section. You don't have to get worked up that sometimes featured bloggers post mediocre blogs.

Just fyi, almost everyone understood it was a joke. There are more people in the thread saying "omg I can't believe people didn't understand it was a joke" than there are people thinking it wasn't.

I thought it was satire, then I considered taking it seriously because of the comments. I am really easy to influence I guess.
Its an okay read, but I think it is too over the top to "change" the thinking of someone that has a more... managable/less direct version of this view. I actually kind of think the problem is smaller in sc2 than in cs because scarlett (but I rarely play sc2, I only watch it, so I might be wrong)

The clever reforming of words into satire on chauvinists works so much better in the speech medium than text. I laugh at most all of Pyrion's YouTube commentary, and streamed ladder dialogue. In text, laying it on way too thick for the warning labels [THIS IS DEFINITELY SATIRE] and [IN CASE YOU MISSED LAST COMMENT, I'M GOING TO SAY AGAIN THIS IS DEFINITELY SATIRE] doesn't evoke witty ridicule of chauvinists ... it just makes for an eye-roll inducing read.
I'm going to request the next one in British Accent MP3 to do a super-scientific comparison. Some organization doing some wrong-headed publicity is one thing, some rather popular trying and ultimately failing to write a humorous satire on it is quite another, even given the subject is rich for it. It needs some more Swift-esque restraint ...
you're slowly led into believing the author is instead writing for an entirely opposite purpose and you haven't finished the trip by the second sentence because the funny wordplay won't bring you back to the pleasures of satire
|
A bunch of rambling by a guy who overestimates the value of his own words. Cringeworthy.
Satire or not, this seems like hate speech. I don't know what you were trying to accomplish. But I feel terrible knowing that people like you exist.

I'm assuming you're a women. His point was not that women should raise a family. His point was that, in general, women have superior social skills, emotional intelligence, and a more sensitive touch. Unfortunately these skills do not transfer well to a RTS game. But that does not mean that women do not have a place in an RTS community.

Get out of your tiny little box and look at the bigger picture. omg barffffffffffffffff, you cant be serious. ya like I want to raise your family I'm assuming you're a women. His point was not that women should raise a family. His point was that, in general, women have superior social skills, emotional intelligence, and a more sensitive touch. Unfortunately these skills do not transfer well to a RTS game. But that does not mean that women do not have a place in an RTS community. If you would open your eyes you would see he was trying to defend women. his intentions dont make his blanket statements about the genders any less barf worthy
His points makes total sense. The only thing that is barf worthy is being ignorant of it.

Sorry, I cant help it, you are just programmed to dominate me. You are superior at arguing with the use of your lazer focus, you are programmed to achieve the goal of being correct. But I can use my sixth sense to protect my family against your words! “MOM DAD ASHLEY LOOKOUT! IT’S TL AGAIN.” (I have been playing StarCraft while I’m doing all of this by the way).So let my nurturing spirit guide you to calmness in your vicious dominance against me. I’m here to take care of you, when you are young, in middle age, also when you get old. If you have a boo boo Xiphos, don’t go to your dad.. I’m here for you hunny. We need to think about our family unit so I can do my job, and raise our next generation. Do you think team liquid will still be around then? I’d like to think so.

Holy fuck pyrion can touch the nerve of TL like no other.
Also I laugh at anyone who claims that anyone else is worse off for using 'emotion' when arguing, especially online. When you see something you disagree with and you want to post a snappy reply, you are simply giving into your emotions. I am giving into my emotions right now, because whenever I see somebody make that claim I know instantly that they are full of shit. Nobody 'logically' argues over the internet because the stakes are so tiny. You aren't going to make the world better by doing it and you're just wasting everyone's time. But more importantly you look like a fucking idiot because you hide behind this rationalization that you are somehow deserve to be right because you took half a step back and looked for half a second at the bigger picture. Because you consider emotions to be beneath you because you don't think you are moved by them, except that right now you're probably having an emotional reaction to this. You probably think its stupid and that you're angry that you had to read something so idiotic. Guess what, thats the fucking point

Fun blog. On a serious note, it's natural that women are worse at competition than men. First off competition is mostly about attrition, which is a masculine attribute. Women are better at dealing with people and at doing anything that involves collaboration, which makes them great socially but terrible at selfish quick and logical critical decision making. Starcraft has always been the proof of this, it's completely dominated by men. A game like Poker though, where you can take your time to look at the bigger picture, women and men compete exactly on the same level. There are still less women because they are less keen to attrition, but the ones who take competition seriously deserve the same respect as male competitors.

I don't really have a thing against girl gamers. However, I do have a thing against girl gamers that think that just cause they are a girl they are entitled to suck. I don't give a fuck if you are a boar, pig, goat, bird, alien,Hotbid,a hideyoshi, male, or a girl. If you play any game well or even have show you have dedication and passion to get better at the game. I will treat you that way. I don't like playing with people who are like lol its just a game. Yeah, a game i use my time to play. It isn't fun playing on a team that is completely fucking retarded. It is like driving, when people do stupid shit, it makes you mad. Even if you get home safely, the driving experience was shit. Likewise, when people drive well and not stupidly. Its a wonderful driving experience. Same outcome, different experiences.

Yeah, completely. The guys over there understood the sarcasm save the second comment, and then we got funny stories about Hot_Bid being unathletic if athletic means running a 5:30 mile (that's fucking hard to do). How does the same community generate such different responses lol. DotA2 community is happier with their 11 million tourny while the SC2 are bitter due to racial imbalance. I don't wish everyone would get cancer and/or hang themselves, just the people who beat me.
