"How does Axiom even make money? They don't host their own tournaments or promote themselves in any way, and I hardly ever see their players in outside tournaments. Basically, aside from the rare news that comes out about them on reddit, I don't even know they exist? And they've been going on for how long? And this is a serious question, because I'm geniunely interested in knowing what the business is behind teams like Axiom and ROOT, who are hardly ever promoted. Edit: Why am I being downvoted for asking an honest question?"
Here is a fellow on /r/starcraft asking the hard-hitting questions, assuming of course this guy lived in the 5th dimension. It's so weird to see people posting this stuff on Reddit when everything Axiom announces and every video Axiom makes always ends up on the Reddit frontpage. So, let's explain for the fellows benefit.
How does Axiom make money if we dont host our own tournments or promote ourselves? Well, mostly by hosting our own tournaments and promoting ourselves. For one we have one of the most popular Youtube channels in SC2 committed to Axiom content. We're putting out videos from the teamhouse on a weekly basis. Every month we have the "Progamers vs" video where our guys take on a classic RTS. That does really well, usually a minimum of 50,000 people watch that. Then of course we have our little "IRL" videos in which our players get on camera, those are short and fairly regular. Our most recent one was about Ramen. Then we have cross promotional videos such as my Archon streams with CranK, they did pretty well too, first one got over 50,000 people watching. By comparison, the GSL Youtube channel gets gets about 5,000 views per match at most, so we're doing ok on Youtube.
"They don't host their own tournaments!" - well one, neither does anyone else. This isnt 2010, we dont have things like the EG Masters Cup anymore, we dont even have Acer Teamstory cup which is probably the most recent "team-run" tournament I can think of. What we do have of course are well, our tournaments, such as our inhouse LOTV mod tournament that we broadcast 3 months ago. Grand Final had over 50,000 people watching on Youtube plus many more on stream. Speaking of stream, did I mention we have one of the most popular SC2 streamers in the form of CranK who streams every day?
But wait, there's more! In order to further promote our players, we make sure to send at least one to pretty much every major international tournament in some way. Most recently, we had Ryung finish RO4 in Copenhagan Games, not a bad result for a player who is supposedly slumping aye? Naturally our players are also present in online events, playing 2 SHOUTcraft Clan Wars a month in front of a 50,000 strong audience, taking on all comers in the SC2Improve Teamleague (we're 7-1 in that btw, top of our division) and sending our players to compete in things like Olimoleague on a weekly basis. We're even a staple in 2v2 contests and recently won one. Look, I'll be the first to admit that we're not winning tournaments. That's my biggest concern right now, but surviving as a team isn't about winning tournaments. IM won loads of tournaments, that didn't save them. SlayerS won tons of tournaments, they disbanded. Azubu, STX Soul, Woongjin Stars, FXOpen, TSL, the list goes on and on. Surviving as a team isn't about winning tournaments, it's about staying relevant in the minds of viewers and the eyes of sponsors, which we do by producing content and making sure our guys are accessible and engage in fan outreach. It's a business like any other and surviving as a team for this long takes more than just winning a tournament here and there.
No though, you're right. Outside of a very successful Youtube channel, very successful live stream, ties to an even bigger successful Youtube channel, multiple team run tournaments and more combined social media presence than any other SC2 team that exists... oh and original video series and continued international tournament presence, Axiom doesn't even exist.
In reality, Axiom promotes itself better than almost any team in SC2, Korean or otherwise. Amongst the Koreans its no contest. Most of the KeSPA teams dont even have Youtube channels or regular streamers, they make very little effort to connect with foreign fans at all. Even when foreign teams do it they often do it to a much smaller audience than Axiom does, they dont have the established media connections. Really if there were two teams that did a better job of promoting their players and themselves, they would be EG and Liquid, but EG has shifted focus away from SC2, whereas Liquid of course has the premier SC2 website and is unlikely to ever be dislodged in terms of promotion. Outside of that, Axiom rules the roost when it comes to online media presence in SC2. That's why we get sponsors, that's why we have more sponsors than almost every Korean team and heck half the foreign teams too, we have a big media presence and a large fanbase. That's why we have sponsors whereas some other Korean teams dont. That's why we have yet more sponsors in the pipeline.
Reading 50k views as being good on Youtube makes me sad. It's a goddamn shame 50k is good for youtube, since there are quite a few youtubers where 50k would be underwhelming. Just puts things into perspective really.
I'm not trying to spark an argument or w/e, but as a casual follower of sc2 (meaning I only follow the biggest tournaments really, and mostly the final phase), I did tend to agree with the reddit guy in thinking you are not the most visible of teams to the "casual follower" (meaning someone who tunes in for ro16+ of biggest tournaments only, does not really do much research into teams or check youtube).
Apparently I (and him) both missed a lot of stuff you guys do, so really thanks for clearing it up and summing everything up in this post ! I'll have to check your YT channel to watch some of the videos you described, seems like really cool stuff that I wasn't even aware of !
So yeah, keep doing what you do, apparently you're doing well ! :-)
Interesting though that I wasn't particularly aware of the Progamer vs videos, definitely going to check them out. It would be great if more teams could market themselves in a similar manner.

For "Youtubers" it's not that high. For SC2, the only channel getting more views on SC2 than that is ESL. With Husky, HD and Day9 gone, SC2 on Youtube outside of tournament vods is dead.
1 star for mr. condescending behaviour. Seriously, TB, stop being an immature douché, yes, you do a FANTASTIC job and are a real professional, you single-handedly saved SC2, but maybe your players should start delivering results, otherwise you'll forever be the "ex-Slayers" retirement home.
Yeah, I was referring to the whole Youtube ecosystem. I've always been sad that SC2 has so little presence on youtube, considering HD and Husky's videos in the beta were the first look I got at SC2. I still fondly remember watching those beta matches where nobody understood anything.
I think if you get those kinds of questions, it's more that the content is not reaching certain people and could be an area to look into.

Wow. No way such a blog has earned being spotlighted. Absolutely no way. You're being a huge rude douche towards a guy who asked some question without implying anything really bad towards Axiom.

It's featured, not spotlighted. Also, featured blogs are not individually selected. People who have a blog following, or important community members will have any blog they write featured. Every blog TB writes will show up in the featured section.

Wonder why barely anybody of importance posts here anymore? Because everytime they take the time to share the facts of the industry they get shit on by mouthbreathers from the peanut gallery. Go away.

Mods better take action now. It's enough. Barely anybody of importance? Well leave that site then and totally don't care for players, casters and personalities posting here. Ignore the beautiful work of TL strategy. Ignore quality recaps and previews. Just gtfo then.

Or we could just ban you from the blog so there's at least one place on TL where you can't follow me around being a gigantic douchebag.
Newsflash. Most of the players, casters and personalities left a long time ago and I imagine part of the reason is that being honest on this forum and not pretending that community members somehow know everything is a fucking sin that'll get you crucified.
Maybe if people resisted the urge to run their mouth and instead took some time to listen when people tell you things, they would know more.

Says the guy coming into a personal blog to casterbash after 28,000 posts on this forum.
No really I have to wonder how oversensitive you would have to be to take offense to this blog. Holy shit, it is not even possible to post on TL anymore without someone bursting into tears over perceived slight.

It's TB. He's salty because he has to deal with people who don't know jack speaking out their ass. I don't blame him for calling people out on it. Speak civilly and there's no problem. Be a dick and be prepared to be called out on it.

I just wonder how soft you have to be to find offense in that blog post. "Hey, I don't like being told the facts, I'm gonna get upset over it!". Or how about you think before you speak and don't spew a bunch of ignorance and expect it to be respected? That'd be my advice to some people.
Seriously if people don't think Axiom promotes themselves well and are thus confused about how we got sponsors then they have no idea what they're talking about. It doesn't go any further than that.
Consider that people are getting offended because I said the guy was "from the 5th dimension" and he was "being silly". HOLY SHIT, I AM SO OFFENSIVE. NEXT I MIGHT EVEN CALL SOMEONE A POOPYHEAD! SOMEONE CALL THE INSULT POLICE IMMEDIATELY!
Did something get into the water supply lately that made people crazy?

Lemme put it this way Torte. If your content is posted on Reddit, TL and all over ones social media and people still can't find it, there is nothing more you can do. The guy in the OP is ignorant. You can't post on /r/starcraft and not see Axiom content, that's just not possible. Everything we post reaches the frontpage. There's nothing more you can do beyond that, there aren't really any other unexploited hubs for the SC2 community beyond the battle.net forums themselves.

If he's ignorant, why do you add to your load to inform him anyways? If your stuff doesn't reach that guy (or the others who could agree), it will in the future if it constantly hits front page regardless. The downvotes are probably in agreement in that he's at fault rather than your own.
It just feels like this response is wasted irritated breath when all signs are point to his own fault rather than a lack of effort from you or your organization. edit However, if you think he has a valid claim, then perhaps there's more to be done. If not, then I think this is pretty much something that can be just dismissed.

It's not about educating him, it's about educating the people that read his comment.
Why are people so hostile to being educated I wonder? When someone in the business comes and shares knowledge, that should be a good thing, but so many times on TL, people who do that get shit on because I suppose people find the idea that they dont know something to be offensive and hate being told that. Those people need to grow up if their response to "well here, let me take time out of my day to outline our entire promotional strategy for you in public for the purposes of educating an audience" is "FUCK YOU, YOU CONDESCENDING PRICK, 1 STAR".
Maybe I'm just naive in thinking that sharing information and trying to educate people will lead to a better quality of discourse. It certainly hasn't here.

You make pretty good content that inform people about Axiom inside and out, as well as your own youtube channel about some key critical issues (that SOSPA video did a ton of good). I think it's okay for you to not educate a couple of people.
People aren't hostile to being educated, if they want to be educated, they go to your channel. Now, if you start bringing this "education" in the form of an unfiltered emotion post; they meet you with equal disdain (word-choice?). It's just a common reaction, especially in cynical niche cultures.
I think in this particular case, actions speak louder than words. The more sponsorships, content-creation, tournaments and stuff you and Axiom do; the more it will inform people how misunderstood their perspective was. If not; the outcome is still just as valid.
In general, "educating people" is a finnicky thing; definitely a way to go about it and even then, it doesn't always work. If that question the person asked is as genuine as he tries to make it, you didn't go about it with equal inquiry on how he be could missing your stuff.
I'm lecturing a bit there, but I think the general message is there. I didn't particularly like your tone in that post, but I can understand the frustration. TB's post are always took apart because sarcasm and cynism can be taken two way. It can be taken in the funny and ironic way or as an aggresive/douchy way.
People tends to see one of those two way and choose one, then react to it. If you read/listen to enough TB you finally get the picture that this is his way of talking and maybe i'm used to it so i don't find this offensive. But i remember at the start it was difficult to gauge. Giant douche ? or Sarcasm/Cynical user ? Well in text it's hard to know, but when you listen the tone is way easier to understand.

Anyways, I watch a lot of Axiom stuff, I like the real-life content the most.
I'm gonna be honest, the "tone" of written work is often in the eye of the beholder.
I am being my usual snarky self. If people are offended by that I cannot help them.
I got a PM from the guy you banned. I pointed out how you begin each paragraph with a sarcastic remark, and then go on to explain just how each point the reddit post got wrong was wrong. I saw nothing particularly angry or insulting in the original post. Just standard TB sarcasm.
This is just a case of people reading into things the wrong way and proceeding to be a dick about it.
It's a shame because boxerfred is usually really nice for the few times i talked to him
Boxerfred has been an asshole to me for ages. I can't remember a time when he wasn't, it's been that long. He shows up constantly in threads I'm in for the sole purpose of picking a fight.

He is. It's easier just to ban people that insult you from a personal blog than it is to fight with them.
Here's an idea. Don't like a personal blog? Don't read it!
I got no sympathy for the people that were offended by that blog. How the hell are people even supported to explain themselves if people go out of their way to be offended on the behalf of others like that over absolutely nothing? OH NO, I CALLED THE GUY SILLY! SO INSULTING!

Some people think tournament results are all that matters when deciding which teams survive and which teams disband.
I think there are a bunch of ex-Korean teams that wish that were true, but it's not.
Do people think we don't know that we're not winning tournaments? It's foremost in everyones mind. It's heartbreaking to know that our guys practice 8-10 hours a day and are still not winning tournaments, but there are also some viewers that only see tournament wins and don't know anything about individual results. We win loads of matches, constantly, all the time, we beat great players every day but people are ignorant of that because all they see are tournament wins. We go 7-1 in SC2Improve Team league, nobody bats an eye. Impact beats Parting, nobody even mentions it. Heart beats Jaedong, not a peep. I'm a caster, I keep up to date with individual match results and anyone that does knows Axiom wins more than it loses. Most viewers don't.
I think the reality is simply this. A lot of SC2 viewers are pretty casual about it and only remember the big names, which is why it's super important that we promote ourselves in other ways, because we arent a team full of big names and with KeSPA taking all the best players, we likely never will be.
I think the simple reality is the majority of people dont care abour the day to day matches or small tournaments.
Its the big stuff that stays in peoples minds, GSL, MLG, Dreamhack, those are ( or were ) some of the tournaments that any starcraft2 fan could name you some winners of.

Yup. That's the reality, which is why its so VERY important to promote in other ways if you aren't winning big tournaments. If you don't, you end up like Startale, who have no sponsors, or worse still, the many talented Korean teams that have disbanded over the years.
I'm biased on this but personally I dont think we get anywhere near enough credit for being the sole surviving non-KeSPA Korean team when so many others have had to close, but hey.

I feel that it's more like for some weird reason when you disagree with something you feel the huge to take your pitchwork and be sure that everyone knows that X or Y sucks while when you're happy you don't often express it.
Looking forwards to cast some Axiom PL games next year if it happens, would be awesome to see tons of games from your players (especially Ryung :p)

Comparing you and him, you both appear similarly combative. I don't think he's giving your words a fair shot, but you seem to have an easy time carrying a grudge against posters whom you feel have slighted you in the past and therefore see more slight in his posts than is actually there. I do, however, think you fail to understand that there may be people in open disagreement with what you say and how you say it on TL that still appreciate that you take time out of your day to post on TL. Occasionally, I am one of those people. This blog isn't one of the posts that make me feel that way, but you have painted yourself into a corner from where you feel the need to defend your thoughts and how you phrase them against anyone that objects. It strikes me as, ultimately, futile.
No matter, congratulations on Axiom becoming self-sustaining. I hadn't heard before, but I'm glad it's a team that puts obvious effort into being a team and not just a group of individual players.

There's a difference between disagreement and arguing for the sake of it because you don't like someone. Boxerfred falls into the latter category. When you come to someones personal blog to start a fight, I think the intention is obvious.
I really find it odd that somebody would find that Axiom weren't marketed as much or well known. I was a long time viewer of TB's content before I'd even considered checking out SC2, it was his promotion of CranK and the rest of the Axiom boys that made me think "huh, I like RTS games, lets check out SC2!"
Now I watch Crank's stream whenever possible, I watch Axiom play in team leagues, if one of the guys is playing in a tournament I'll try and tune in. I watch the YouTube content when it releases because a) I'm either in Crank's chat when Olimoley mentions uploading it or b) I see it on twitter.
I can't think of any other SC2 team that does that. Even TL doesn't do THAT much marketing, but they have monopoly on being the best community to discuss the game so they can kind of get away with that.
So in a way TB and Axiom brought me personally into the scene, which I'm very thankful for if anything. These people trying to shit on him for his way of getting his point across should probably interact with a lot more British people. We're very snarky and cynical.
I think I personally don't qualify as a sc2 viewer at all anymore, but I do glance at headlines every now and then, thus qualifying for the ignorant mass. The reason I keep reading blogs like these, blogs like Destiny's for example on his tourney a while ago (in which he was shitted on for reserving some money for himself), is because it's fun to test some picture I have of the subject. If our views clash; the first thing you look at is 'did I miss some detail?' or 'did I not take some aspect into account?' .
So I'm really appreciating these insights, as they provide an opportunity to increase my knowledge and insights, or to learn from other people's mistakes.
Let the record state that I have a fairly large lack of respect for TotalBiscuit. That being said...
It's not just Reddit, or TL... and it's not just SC2. The internet in general has become a hostile place, where sheep will flock together to downvote/spam anything you say that they don't agree with. In most cases they aren't even the majority, but the vocal minority.
This has always held true for review websites, where it's far more likely for someone to post about a negative experience than a positive one. The same thing pretty much bleeds into online gaming communities.
There was a time ten or so years ago where gaming communities were pretty awesome. I'd even say that pre-SC2 Teamliquid was a pretty cool and fun place to hang out at. Everyone wanted gaming to go mainstream, and it has - and with that comes all the kids, trolls, douches, and everyone else that makes gaming less fun than it used to be.
Totalbiscuit acts like an entitled child most of the time, but he DOES know what he's talking about. People on here and Reddit always want more, but never show respect or give credit to people who can actually give them what they want. And again, it's not just here - I was very involved in the Everquest Landmark community during alpha. As soon as they opened the flood gates for beta the forums were suddenly full of downvotes, trolls, and assholes and most of the dedicated veteran players bailed out.
You kids need to stop biting the hands that feed you, then whining about it later.
Can I ask an honest personal question TB? I'll state upfront that I don't understand the relationship of being a team owner or a huge member of the community or anything but something is confusing me.
Yesterday you posted This on your own personal blog, which I totally get cause I can understand how the toxic opinions of people would get to you. You clearly state you're incapable of just "ignoring" people who criticize you or by extension here your team. Do you feel like you need to keep people informed here of Axiom's happenings? in which case my question would be couldn't Olimoley fill that void? Or is it more a "Damned if I do, Damned if I don't" thing and you just feel the need to put your perspective on things. I mean stepping away from one form of toxic environment won't work if you willingly open yourself to others so I genuinely confused and want to hear your opinion on this.

I don't make this out to be surprisingly angry. Sarcastic, sure, but c'mon! This guy even got an answer and a good one at that. That's already more insight and community interaction than most sc2 teams provide!
I found this to be an interessting read and as a cherry on the cake, I learnt about the "progamer vs"-thing, which I will give a shot the next time I'm on youtube.

For that I am happy for you, truly TB I am, I have been following Axiom long enough that to know you have finally got to this point is amazing and I congratulate you for it.
At the same time with all due respect, TL likes to think that we are more sophisticated than reddit or twitch chat, that is why people are so angry in the chat. I would bet at least 90% of them are Axiom fans and that is why they came here, NOT to bash on you, but they were justifiably put off by your attitude.
Congrats on Axiom and everything else, but seriously there is no need to turn this into an internet fight, that's why we come to TL, we have no need for that. I personally was unaware of the YouTube efforts for example you put out and I am glad that you brought it up.
TL;DR: TB we love Axiom and are happy it is thriving, but we would prefer if it could be said without the aggression. Those are my 2 cents. Thanks
There's this girl on Youtube who made some pretty interesting videos and I loved her content, but recently she had a complete meltdown, something that can come from being a public personality, especially if you're willing to share details from your personal life. Exposing yourself to criticism from anonymous posters is certainly not easy, nor pleasant. It was sad to see her fall apart, being unable to ignore the trolls. I hope it's not weighing on you too much TB.
As they say, "haters gonna hate", but I want to add that haters don't necessarily only hate, but they fundamentally, like many of us, fundamentally misunderstand the various business models that pro teams have. I didn't know how Axiom made its money. Had I been 16, a bit of a cunt like I was back then and wanted to feel relevant, I just might have posted some stupid shit like that.
Hm. Maybe you need a disclaimer in front of all your posts 'read this in a snarky TB voice' followed by 'I am actually angry right now.' It might involve less misunderstandings
But more seriously, congrats on finding success. It's a tough haul.

but I thought your post was interesting, and I was glad to have been educated.
IMO you could lose the british sarcasm for PR purposes. Because you appear aggressive, and it doesn't achieve anything. You're a business with an image and fans to maintain.

Yeah, exactly.
Plus, haven't you guys ever thought about why the EG SC2 squad is still kicking, even though their ace JD is performing poorly? If results aren't delivered, then you market, which is what TB and EG have been doing.
If anything, some of you guys should be glad that TB has been keeping this team alive amidst the heavy competition against loaded KeSPA teams and might motivate other aspiring teams to follow his example.

That's honestly how it feels as a content creator though... even coming from a much smaller community than StarCraft, it's very easy to hyper-focus on criticism and brush away praise as undeserved. I think TB has even talked about this in the past and has been pretty open about some of the psychological stress that it's had on him.

Losing his trademark features would further his image? I don't think so
I'm not trying to spark an argument or w/e, but as a casual follower of sc2 (meaning I only follow the biggest tournaments really, and mostly the final phase), I did tend to agree with the reddit guy in thinking you are not the most visible of teams to the "casual follower" (meaning someone who tunes in for ro16+ of biggest tournaments only, does not really do much research into teams or check youtube).
Edit: clarifications.
Well of course if you only follow the major tournaments semis and finals your not gonna see to much of Axiom. TB said himself they really aren't winning that many tournaments, but you have to understand that SC2 doesn't have much of a casual crowd. The majority will try to watch the entire thing, watch streamers, and watch it on youtube. That is probably why it slipped under yours and this guys radars. I am not saying you or that guy who posted the original content is dumb or ignorant, you guys just don't follow the many other ways SC2 is presented and used to entertain people.
I appreciate your passion and drive. Its really impressive that you are still putting so much effort into something that i assume gives little to non financial benefits.
That said, you seem to have a problem with criticisms or even the slight disagreement. Lets be honest, if one of my colleagues or manager speaks and respond like you do, this guy is getting fired. No matter how much you do or how much more you know, your behaviour is honestly, childish and douchey.
Also, i am disgusted that people are still defending TB when he has crossed the line at times. ''Oh he produce content, cut him some slack.''

I find it thoroughly pathetic when I see community members make some statement about how I can't handle criticism and yet even pointing out that some random person was ignorant is seen as offensive. No see in my experience, there are members of this community who are completely incapable of handling criticism. I handle criticism on a daily basis, more than you could ever imagine. I'm sorry about how strange people can be from time to time TB. However, I think that if you simply were to make axiom youtube videos' descriptions have links to a bit of everything that axiom does that you posted her, then you would be more well known AND would make more money.
Pretty sure TB is an arsehole, I don't mean that as a derogatory term more a term of endearment, never change TB. Also amid this sea of crap I found that Axiom is soon to be running at a profit, that's huge news perhaps you could do a write up on the trials and tribulations of being a team owner.
I'll say it again : sometimes you should take a break from the Internet and then read what you typed again. Maybe that would make you realize some things.

There's nothing to realize. It's not like I didn't already know that people are ungrateful for industry insight and lash out at even the most innocent perceived slight. Some people on this forum HATE being told they don't know something, thats obvious. It's telling that Reddits response to this post was far more positive than TLs was.
I don't get the controversy here. 5/5 for an informative and amusing blog, and I'm definitely interested in checking out some of those "Progamer VS" youtube videos now!

Everyone wanted gaming to go mainstream, and it has - and with that comes all the kids, trolls, douches, athey're actually wrong and they deserve to be called out on itnd everyone else that makes gaming less fun than it used to be.
I think you're just getting old dude
I respectfully disagree with this sentiment.
Honestly, with Reddit and Twitter becoming so staggeringly massive over the last few years, they've created a culture of their own which has since started leaking into other communities as well. They've bred a hostile, black-and-white, us-vs-them mentality whereby people join echo-chamber-y cliques based on certain sentiments or ideas which they constantly regurgitate to each other, and should you ever dare to disagree, even slightly, with the hivemind, you'll find yourself public enemy number one, and these pathetic excuses for human beings will stop at nothing from trying to one-up you and prove their perceived superiority (moral or intellectual or otherwise.)
Some of you reading might have picked up that I was hinting at bigger things going on in gaming right now. That is perhaps the most poignant example of what this can (and has) lead to if left unchecked.
Couple that with how many insufferable, entitled little shits have found their way onto the internet and into gaming communities over the last half decade (whether you choose to blame this on League or Minecraft or Pewdiepie or 9gag is hardly relevant, all that matters is that they're here to stay now) and you have a recipe for disaster.
The StarCraft 2 community in particular has been quite bi-polar I tend to find. One day you'll see them shitting on Blizzard for their design and balance decisions, and the next anyone who dares suggest changes to the game is just "an elitist bw fanboy who should go back to his 8bit games". Same with how they treat community figures, tournaments, teams, players, content, anything.
As for TotalBiscuit and his recent posts, I think some of the people in this thread exemplify the above quite well. They're so obsessed with and fixated on the notion that TotalBiscuit is just some arrogant prick, that they refuse to stop and think, even for just one moment, why he is responding in this fashion, what the message behind the tone is, and that perhaps he might be justified in saying the things he says; they refuse to stop and think that maybe, just maybe, they're actually wrong and might deserve to be called out on it.
How dare you call me out on my ignorant and petty bullshit that I have spouted, you are henceforth the enemy, and fuck you!
I don't understand why the community continues to tolerate such people, who never contribute anything but are always the first to shit upon others, to stir controversy and make sure everyone has heard their ignorant opinions and pathetic comments. They're not even here for the game, they're just drama vultures (and not the kind with patrol micro) who seem to thrive off flinging their shit at others and acting smugly superior. The kind of children who spam twitch chat with their dank maymays and complain when they get banned, the kind who shit on Blizzard for any decision they make even though they themselves don't even play this bloody game, the kind who will crucify tournaments, players and casters for even the smallest faux-pas, even though they have never contributed monetarily or put in voluntary work (a la editing Liquipedia) for the betterment of this scene.
Yet they are allowed to be a part of this scene, for some reason, as they painfully continue to remind us with their toxic presence every time some "drama" comes up.
Consider this: maybe when you have dozens of whining, whinging, insignificant gnats scrutinizing your every move and bitching every single time you do or say something they disagree with, maybe you get tired and frustrated, maybe they need to be put in their bloody fucking place.
Coming from someone who doesn't follow Sc2 on reddit, who doesn't bash any casters, who actually likes the players on Axiom and who has no reason to hate on you TB:
There's a way to respond to stupid questions or criticism without coming off sounding rude or aggressive. While there are a couple of people in this thread who deserved some of the spite you delivered them, it really comes off as if most people were simply being civil while you were the one being aggressive and immature, even though you accused others of doing those exact things.
It says something that I expect you to take offense at that statement and rage at me, but I feel obligated to at least let you know that your vitriol has turned at least me off you, as your career depends on people liking you and what you do.

I hope this helps.
It does make sense that you would view things in this way if you don't actually witness the full extent of shit people throw his way; especially since you admit you don't follow the SC2 sub-reddit (and let me tell you, you're not missing out on anything but teenaged edgelords regurgitating their dank maymays).
In reality, TB (and most public figures for that matter) get a lot more flak than most people realize, and it gets absolutely pathetic and disgusting sometimes.

lol I don't like wking people but TB is a big contributor to TL and SC2, and he deals with personal attacks (related and unrelated to sc2) and attacks on his work and projects, including axiom, on a repeated basis. If you think he crossed the line, you'll notice that TB can be reported and so you can go down that route.
But on a balance scale, TB contributes a lot to TL and sc2 in terms of money and content, so cursing in his posts is trivial in comparison...

That argument would be legit if TB's cursing was somehow essential to his producing content... But it isn't. It's actually possible to be a great contributor to SC2/TL while not being a dick (see: most other contributors). There's no reason to accept him aggressively attacking people just because he's a contributor.
I'm not sure why TL doesn't enforce higher posting standards on him. It's not like it would scare him off - TL is quite obviously a big asset in continually developing his brand.

This sums up how I feel. TB is justified in being mildly offended by the naive question, and if he wants to communicate in a passive aggressive manner, that's fine too. It is pretty clear he was offended by the question -- to the point of writing this blog at least.

This seems accurate to me, and I get that - if I poured my money, heart, and soul into an endeavour, saw it fulfill my definitions of success, and then see people saying that it 'hardly exists', I'd definitely be offended, too.
And then of course, this is the Internet, where nuance is lost as a natural consequence of the lack of face-to-face contact and every topic but the most obscure is overwhelmed by discussion that claims more expertise than is actually present, so... you know, fireworks ensue. 'Discussions', for lack of a better word, are always worse when you can't see the facial expression of someone you're talking to so you know when either one of you makes a faux pas or is, god forbid, actually joking about something, blackly or otherwise.

Also, TL have alway given more leeway to community figures, it was even stated and often quoted from the rules (not sure if it's changed but I assume it's still in the forum rules). Idra's ban singular? He was banned/warned heaps and barely ever got away with anything, especially after sc2 came out.
All these threads about/with TB just make me depressed. The problem is nobody wants to give anyone else the benefit of the doubt, instead people just assume the worst. In my opinion (most) people with negative reactions to this blog are merely disapproving or concerned, not ignorant vengeful flaming neckbeards and TB is an outspoken kind of a guy, not this massive flaming asshole he's been made out to be. And especially in such a public and stressful position that he's in, I'm sure wanting to give some rebuttal to the critics is only natural.
