I've been rewatching some of the old OSL BW intros lately and I just have to say, they are still the best I've seen. I checked out OGN's League of Legends intros but even those aren't nearly as hype even with the seemingly increased production value.
Is it the nostalgia glasses speaking, or is the esports world really incapable of producing things that are better than these relatively old intros? Or am I just not looking in the right place (I haven't seen any SC2 ones)?
My personal favorites were always the 2007 Daum and 2008 Bacchus. 2010 Korean Air season 1 was pretty cool too, but not in the same way as 2007 Daum and 2008 Bacchus.
marketing was so good back then too...seems the be a lot of reason kept it alive I think. People took time in every area to make the game seem awesome and it's truly what made the game last so long and such a great game.
Feels overwhelming... these trailers are what got me into competitive starcraft. I wanted to see what game could inspire such player worship/passion. It's disappointing that with the improvements in technology the level of player promotion has fallen off. The game might be great, but you need to build promote idols if you want a sustainable scene, especially in Korea.
Speaking as someone who found out about TL and the Brood War pro scene only AFTER SC2 was released, it's not nostalgia. Granted, I have fond memories of comp stomps on BGH with my friends back in 2000~2002, so Brood War was already special to me.
In any case, the 2007 EVER OSL intro is also one of my favorites. Here are my others (in no particular order):
I guess some of the difference comes down to making intros for teams vs intros for players? I like a lot of the LoL intros but overall I would say the best ones are from BW.
Happened to find this thread and LOVE that so many people love the Ever 2007 OSL opening!!!
IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD!
When I first really found out about esports and BW and stuff back in the very late 2000s, is also around when I found those openings. The art is awesome, the music is great, the directing and editing and everything is just so cool and hype!!! Glad it wasn't just me that felt it was POWERFUL.
Just linking here, the Finals version of it, with the ending updated. The music changes to a different part of the song with a really epic build up to some final screaming as it highlights Stork vs Jaedong.
SO FUCKING EPIC!
I know this thread is old but I just remembered this opening and wanted to post haha.
