For months I tried iCCup, and I didn't get very far. People on my level were Peruvian trash players that lagged like hell. I played iCCup because I'm on the east coast of the US and Koreans would ban me.
After downloading nearly every Fish map available, I've been able to play Fish as long as everybody has wDetector so my ping doesn't hurt me or anybody else. My Korean is decent and I've made some friends on Fish, so blending in is pretty easy.
I will be updating my blog after every Fish session and posting a short summary, hopefully to see my progress. When creating this blog, the stats on every account combined were:
W: 5 L: 83 D/C: 1
I will only include 1v1 and exclude any games played on 빠른무한 (Fastest Map) or 헌터 (Big Game Hunters) or with any speed multipliers.
DAY 1: W: 1 L: 20 D/C: 0 Day1 was originally split but that's not very orderly so whatever.. no more of that, now it's by the calendar.
DAY 2: W: 1 L: 17 D/C: 0 Thought I was winning a game, then a bunch of BCs rushed into my base. FML
DAY 3: W: 2 L: 18 D/C: 0 The first guy I beat had no stats and the account was fresh. Obviously not a new player and I feel like I played really well compared to my normal play. It was a TvT on Fighting Spirit, and I locked down his third. Looking over the replay he made a lot of mistakes, though.
DAY 4: W: 3 L: 26 D/C: 0 It was a grinding day with nothing unusual. 28 games on Fighting Spirit and one on Python
DAY 5: W: 0 L: 3 D/C: 0 Feeling a little sad today, so I didn't play much.
DAY 6: W: 0 L: 1 D/C: 0 Lost to a 9 pool and my opponent kept telling me to kill myself. I'm not going to play anymore today.
DAY 7: W: 5 L: 17 D/C: 0 I wish I could improve faster.
DAY 8: W: 4 L: 23 D/C: 0 My win rate is going up which indicates improvement, but at this rate I'll never get into the ladder.
DAY[9]: W: 5 L: 21 D/C: 0 I had fun, it's nice to see Fish is always active. Server shuts down at 5 AM tho
DAY 10: W: 6 L: 23 D/C: 0 With the news that Flash is coming back it was surprisingly really difficult to find even games. A bunch of oldies were on and I was getting fried.
DAY 11: W: 11 L: 47 D/C: 0 I couldn't sleep so was playing Fish for about 10 hours.
DAY 12: W: 8 L: 25 D/C: 0 The game feels less chaotic every day
DAY 13/14: W: 38 L: 84 D/C: 1 Two days because I was temp banned from TL. I got into a clan and they're coaching me which is super awesome. I might be getting somewhere!
DAY 15: W: 16 L: 32 D/C: 0 Eh
DAY 16: W: 6 L: 7 D/C: 0 Took a day off for Flash's stream
DAY 17: W: 12 L: 32 D/C: 0 I feel some improvement. Hunters and Fastest are great for mechanical practice, and I did my best to copy Flash's Valkyrie play. Mutas don't rape me anymore :D
DAY 18: W: 16 L: 29 D/C: 1 Drop hacker under the name JacobJJang but aside from that everything is normal
DAY 19: W: 12 L: 24 D/C: 0 Meh
DAY 20: W: 13 L: 43 D/C: 0 T_T
DAY 21: W: 16 L: 32 D/C: 0 Trying new things. Don't wanna learn only one style
DAY 22/23: W: 32 L: 80 something idk D/C: 1 (drop hacker) Guy drop hacked me at the beginning of the game, what a retard lol
DAY 24: Not sure, but I'll be updating this less frequently. I'm dedicating more time to this and I want to be really good, can't spend time dwelling over my win rate

no point refering to peruvians as "trash players," they have to play with like 300 ping... you should learn from their tenacity instead of shitting on them?

Hey, I admire your strength. Keep it up and hopefully the title will be less elusive each day! What level would you say you are on iccup? I'm currently around C/C+. I'm always looking for extra practice partners, so if you're interested, hit me up. (Zerg player, Iccup id: CrispyDrone)
Also, how did you progress your korean? Did you learn from any particular websites, or perhaps you taught yourself from textbooks?
I'm currently preoccupied with improving my French but I earnestly hope to be able to start improving my Korean in the near future.

As for my Korean: https://www.youtube.com/user/BusyAtomdotcom/videos
It's a bunch of lectures but I learned sooooo much from this guy. He's great at illustrating Korean grammar in a visual manner which works great for me and sprinkles in some personality as well as why you need to know whatever he's teaching. I learned a majority of my Korean from the first six lectures then I just kinda went from there. I drop by that channel very frequently to learn new things when the translator on my second monitor doesn't help.
So basically it's a combination of that channel, Naver Translator, and talking to a lot of Koreans in all sorts of games. Worth noting that Naver Translator is only helpful if you know enough to just translate a single word. This is how a lot of Koreans learn English from the internet.

Fish is really hard to start on... I'd take the Peruvians if I were you till about C rank.

Even if I wanted to go through that, it's quite hard to find a game that isn't unbearably laggy. I'll even whisper to every single user in the ladder chat and the only people that will play just 4pool me or something.

Are you playing ladder games on fish? If you play non-ladder 1v1's you get easier opponents that range from probably D- to C+ relative to iccup. It's a good alternative if you lag on icc

I bet those wins you did get feel pretty good though right ;D

One of them asked for a re but he had whispers blocked so I felt kinda bad after saying yes

I wasn't last, fuck yeah

edit: nevermind, I removed the download link and fried the post

I always warm up with Fastest and the first lobby had a drop hacker, yay! No wonder he was still on 3.39

I need to keep trying. I want to succeed, it's just upsetting being kicked to the ground by Koreans playing with their feet and shit
