I've been a pretty big Star Wars fan for quite a long time - and earlier today I was thinking about some fan-made movies I saw years ago. Well before YouTube was a stable enough platform to be as popular as it is now, a lot of these videos were hosted either on Atomfilms (video hosting website that quickly became the home for Star Wars videos) and Newgrounds (Flash video/game hosting site). Unfortunately, Atomfilms is long gone and Newgrounds is going the way of Flash itself, so at least a few of the skits have been lost to time - but dedicated fans have managed to salvage at least a few of them. This playlist on YouTube, for example, collects a few Atomfilms classics that had been salvaged. A few of my personal favorites from back in the day are listed below.
Trooper Clerks (NSFW)
A Clerks parody with two stormtroopers operating a convenience store on the newly built Death Star.
Star Wars Gangsta Rap SE
A retelling of Ep 4-6 in a humorous lyrical form.
The Saga Begins
A Weird Al parody retelling the story of Ep 1 to the tune of Don McLean's American Pie.
The Sith Apprentice
A Celebrity Apprentice parody in which Palpatine chooses his new apprentice. FYI: this skit was released prior to Episode 3, which makes at least one scene here rather impressive.
Blue Milk
An advertisement for milk featuring toddler Leia - with a twist.
Pink Five
A story of an untold behind-the-scenes X-Wing pilot toiling for the Rebellion. Originally part of a trilogy; unfortunately due to the owners wanting to make a remake the two sequels are paywalled. Still worth a watch, and if you like you can go find the sequels yourself.
And as a bonus, relatively recent but still quite good release:
The Emperor Voiced by Mark Hamill
After his performance as Luke Skywalker, our friend Mark Hamill got into voice acting - and his best known role is that of the Joker from the Batman cartoons. What happens when we pit live-action Hamill against his voiced-over counterpart?
Hope you folks enjoy! I know I had a blast finding these videos 10-15 years ago and they've definitely stood the test of time.
I like the idea of a lot of the imagery in the original more, but the SE actually had lip syncing. The original straight up dropped the ball in the ending Han sequence, though, which makes the comparison not even close.
They made a sequel, but I personally wasn't a fan.
So this is the first time I watched SW Gangsta rap and I lose it everytime on this part:
"Yoda, why you bein' a playa' hata' You know that I still must confront Lord Vader But Luke, not ready are you. There's a city in the clouds Where they keepin' my crew A Jedi's gotta do what a Jedi's gotta do"
