I do lurk mostly, but I still read topics from all forums I'd post if I could contribute more
|
i also lurked for a little while on TL, only until i could find a place to jump in. my first post was actually "sorry gorush you will choke" in a liquibet thread. i just wanted to ease in a little bit
now look where i am! i'm the #1 hip hop producer on TL

I lurked for several years before finally registering some time ago. I still rarely post and mostly lurk, however.
|
I also lurk most of the time. Except for the occasional post here and there :p

Am I the only one that was expecting that you would be a Terran player making some sort of poem to Zerg lurkers ?
Or a pict ?
ok -> []

I mostly lurk because it's so hard to make a joke without someone taking it seriously and getting into an argument. Due to the fact that TL.net is just full of conceited argumentative bastards.
+ Show Spoiler +Come on now, it's not that hard to spot.

I don't like the first post expectations. On the other hand I do think low post count users should be careful... but by careful I mean don't be a complete idiot... and honestly it's not hard 8o

Intrigue are you encouraging spammers? To be honest I'd prefer lurkers to lurk than produce more carbon monoxide. I love new recruits which probably includes me although I've been lurking since 2002-03 off and on since I wasn't all that great and played money maps. I still remember that Waxangel with his fat pokemon icon.

Feels good to be part of a majority. The vast (VAST) majority of my posts have been one-liners, but what I like about TL is no one seems to really care that much compared to other forums. My first ever post was I think in a blog about a guy being asked to be a model by some old man, and I said "If he rapes you, just close your eyes and pretend it's sAviOr" and that became some sAviOr fanboy's new quote. And by "some sAviOr fanboy" I mean Shallow, but I think he left to become a professional ice fisher or some other terribly over-Canadian thing.

I lurk and post here and there. I haven't played any StarCraft since I registered all those years back so most of my posts are in general.

yay posting!!!
my first post was a bet on the JF reaver contest. I lost. Horribly. But hey, whatever! I've been lurking for... oh, i dunno, maybe half a year or so, and i really liked the community. This is actually the only forum i actively follow/contribute to.

I dunno, lurking can be sorta useful. I lurked for like 2 days before joining. Then after my first two posts got warnings. (One about cd-keys and one about FIRST! in a thread.)

Another long time lurker here. I guess my only "contribution" to TL is this blog entry

eh my first account here got banned when I said that the WGT website has bad coding and i was accused of "bashing WGT." so sometimes its kind of discouraging to even state your opinion, so its better to just lurk.

one liners aren't encouraged, and it seems like most of my posts, if i actually posted them, would have been one liners. so i end up lurking.

IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!?
I mostly lurk (I think from '06 or '07), read tl.net like everyday once-twice-thrice. I don't post much since I prefere to post when I have actually something constructive to post or ask. That being said, I know my way around TL.net.
Some of my contributions were collecting all the zerg fpvods that I found on the net and making a torrent, rehosting 13 nada's fpvods, posting a fix for stealtbot in my blog and drooling over the "Day #" threads... wait... that's not constructive. xD
Hm... this made me think about making another topic...

no see, if all those people registered, they would all be violating the TL rules, namely not contributing, resulting in massive amounts of bans.

On September 30 2008 04:42 babypo0 wrote: no see, if all those people registered, they would all be violating the TL rules, namely not contributing, resulting in massive amounts of bans. Not really, technically as long as you post semi-coherent thoughts, that could be seen as contributing. Since you're helping make this place seem livelier and more active.
I mean if you consider contributing to be something like posting articles, helping with strategies, making music/other artistic projects to share, or anything that people who are considered top posters would make, then I should've been banned a while ago since all I do is just post random comments here and there.
Then if you register and don't post or do anything...well then that's fine since you're not harming anyone. I think that rule is only in place to discourage people from trying to expect help or from leeching off of the sites projects/events without giving anything back.

The sad fact is that most of the people are simply scared to post, because the admins judge the posters on their post count; e.g. people with high post count can post nearly everything they want as long as it is not against the admins. People who joined the staff for some weird reason can post whetever they want.
This leads to this strange situation that there is low "middle class" - you either end up joining the staff and inflating your post count from 3000 to 8000; or get banned. We both know what happens when you get 2500 posts - and how it allows people to magically multiply their posts. Such "5000" posts guys must have made great contributions for this site, e.g. open a random thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=79469¤tpage=3
-affla - triple post (no offense, Ive been browsing this website for quite a long time and I dont know what his contributions are) -intrigue - double post (who is that person? I only know that it's a girl; probably some next Zia) -even chill double posted! (how did that happen, he is a great contributor!) Intothewow is another great example - he made like 200 "ahahah" posts in random threads. Great contribution (ah yes I know, he used to write 5-10 liquid scoops 2 or 3 years ago!).
If a few post guy posts in a row, or in the same thread there is a very high chance that he will be banned. I remember when one of the admins went at some banning spree and banned people who would write "rotfl".
Speaking of admins - take a look at some of then (ahem, twisted, vGl-CoW) - do you remember them posting anything, apart from banning people? I mean, other admins, like FA, ETT, or FS both post at this website and temp ban people; while some other admins who seem not to post at all (dunno, maybe they spam MIR to inflate their post counts?) ban people permanently
Sonofbob is a nice person, but he bans a person and writes "Inconsiderate Newb. Try harder on your next account." - why wont he ban the typical flamers (ahem, incontrol) and write the same to them?
There seems to be the total absence of the "800-1300" posts guys. I mean, open a random older thread, 1/3 - 1/2 of people I used to remember are banned. Open a new thread, most of the posts are made by the staff, who often even double or tripple post.
Perhaps, tl.net should unban some of the old posters. You are from the staff, so maybe you could ask Saro for a list of banned people from the xx pages of the ban thread?
Like check this minus_roman guy who posted here - I know him, he is a good poster, but he is stuck in his "1300" (perhaps it is good, so he wont spam), after 2500 he will turn into a typical monster, and quickly inflate to 4000-5000
Speaking of admins - who the hell is this 'zatrac' guy, I dont remember a single post of him - but he is an admin and he bans people
I will probably get banned for this post because twisted and vgi cow ban all the people who dont agree with them or dont consider them gods (hell, I once seen him ban a person from IRC before that person said anything..)
btw. perhaps Saro could make some sort of "double post" count or something, to check who spammed the most.

you contributed once a week for like, 37 weeks or so
As for myself, i lurked mainly for the first 2-3 years i was on here, then started posting more actively the last year. Procrastinating more/more outspoken in general.

What's your point? We take shit from old members. We don't take shit from new members. Just like when you invite someone into your house. If you come into my house for the first time, get wasted and puke all over my house, fuck you. If we're friends and you do it, no big deal clean up and keep going.
How is this hard to understand?

Who me? I was made Red against my will. It's horrible to have to do these things, really. I have nightmares.
What exactly is your problem anyway? Am I not the proof you can accomplish something here without hitting the spam button?
|
Dammit, I also thought this was about lurkers.
like "YOU'RE SPINES KEEP KILLING MY DAMN MARINES CUT IT OUT OK!!"
really though, everyone who is scared to post just needs to unburrow.
|
@closed mods judge people by way more than just post count.. it may seem that high post # users can get away with stuff that low post users can't, but have you considered what it means to be a high post # user? You had to make those posts without getting banned, which at least shows some intelligence their part.
anyway, the content is far more important in judging a poster. there's plenty of examples. I'm not sure how long you've been on TL or how many names you will remember, but just think of people like MDT, CleaR (who turned out to be hot bid + co i think, but until that was revealed, you can see how people treated him. if this was done in the later days, I'm sure CleaR would've gotten a star for his/their efforts ), etc.
i don't post much, but it's not because i'm scared of the admins. i just rarely have stuff to say. they're reasonable people you know. edit: with certain obvious exceptions =)

I lurked for quite a while, though I was still pretty young when I registered. My first posts were like posts from other forums, which honestly weren't that great grammatically or syntactically. It was kind of hilarious. But then it became obvious that hey, you needed to be more intelligent if you actually wanted to go anywhere here. So here I am.

I've been lurking TL since the beginning. I still remember the first poll on which domain TL should claim. I think it's been a long time...anyone know how many years since the first post?
HOLY SHIT! I just checked for the first post: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=88 It's been exactly 6 years since the first post on TL.net. Damn.
