Idk, I think the losing the weight would probably take 1-2 months at a leisurely pace, maybe 2 weeks at a more hardcore pace, but achieving the overall results I am looking for (Not too ambitious, but just a healthy 150ish) will take quite a bit of time, and a continued commitment to stay that way after I get there.
if you just run an hour a day (jogging interspaced with sprinting) and cut calorie intake to 1500kcal per day (or close to it) and a break day on the weekends (normal healthy eating habits/no running) you can lose 10 lbs in a month.
did this myself while i was in japan and lost a good 30 pounds over the summer over three months. currently at 160 lb, going for 150 lb

This seems a little bit light. Even 2000 is pretty small.
My weight/figure isn't my personal concern so much as how 'in shape' I am... and while I realize they are fairly related, what I really should do is get exercise to the point that I won't get exhausted jogging a mile etc.
I'm 165 pounds and 5' 9, and I'm trying to lose weight too I'm mainly running as much as I can everyday, watching what I eat more carefully, and doing some weights.
I weigh 170 and I'm 5'11, I'm trying to gain mass though so I've really been focusing on lifting and proper nutrition over the past few months. My goal for this year is to reduce my bodyfat % while continuing my healthy eating practices.
Like said before, muscle weighs more than fat, so it's entirely possible to gain weight and be in better shape. Losing weight =! necessarily better shape.

it was mad easy in japan though.
2 onigiri for breakfast =300kcal 1 ramen bowl for lunch =500-700kcal 1 bowl of whatever =(oyakodon, 500-1000kcal)
usually it was easy to hit about 1500kcal even with a bit of light snacking in the middle (so easy to cal count in japan since everything is labeled, even restaurants menus)
and I had enough energy to go clubbing and whatever on weekends (from like 12 to 6am? since trains stop running) as well as kendo practice on friday (usually i ate a bit more on friday for kendo)

I'm 5'11 165, trying to gain mass as well, what's your routine?

I just finished a month workout plan aimed at muscular strength (I know strength =! optimal mass gain and that a 8-12 rep program is better than a 6-8 for hypertrophy)
I left the plan itself at school when I came home for Christmas, but it was something like Day 1: Chest/Back
I'm not sure what they're called, but these (when the video starts), alternating sides.
6-8 reps of each (for the pullup thing you might be able to more, go for it), alternating exercise 1 and 2 until you've done 4 sets of each. 90-120 seconds rest between sets.
Then do Seated Rows alternated with Decline Flys, again 6-8 reps, alternating until 4sets of each. 90-120seconds rest.
The same 6-8 reps, alternate up to 4sets, 90-120s rest.
Then barbell skull crushers alternating with pronated grip curls. 6-8 reps. 4sets. 90-120s rest.
There was also a Leg day but I can't remember it right now :p
This workout came from a PSP staff of the Canadian Forces so don't go thinking I invented it :p If you want it targeted at hypertrophy change from 6-8 to 8-12 reps in all exercises. Obviously this means decreasing the weight a bit.
Make sure you take whey protein immediately after working out too
If you want a routine I highly suggest bodybuilding.com, amuater of the week. It's a bunch of body builders (usually old people lol), and they got some really good workouts. I highly recommend their workouts. They obviously know what their doing.

Seconded...
Are you just peer pressured because all your friends are asian and super thin?
no, i just want to man! you guys dont understand T_T
Lol What is wrong with having a little bulk on your chest? If you lose 20 pounds you will be thinner than most girls. I should know because I'm also 5'6" and about 135-140, so yeah it is pretty thin. Dunno, since I went to college I have been eating vegetarian and I got a little thinner even though I didn't lose weight.
I don't really worry about the weight, does it really matter if you don't look fat? I don't think so.
If you want to lose weight, eat healthy, eat 3 meals a day, no snacking, try and run twice a day if possible (Once in morning, once in evening.) Drink alot of water.. do it slowly though.
I know one guy who was quite fat.. just didn't eat anything apart from like 2 slices of bread a day and just drank alot.. sure he got thin but it doesn't last if you do it like that, for about 4-5 months he stayed thin but he was putting the weight back on so fast.. He's fat again btw.
Just take it nice and slow and in 2 months you'll be at the weight you want.
total body workouts are better than just abs skipping and diets if you want to get maximum effectiveness try doing abs one day legs another and arms/upper body another with maybe cardio or aerobics another and pace yourself with your workouts and try not to pull a muscle hf working out
Haha clazzi - we have the same goals although my "ideal" isn't as low as 140... that's a bit too low. If I can get to anywhere between 148-153 I'll be a happy camper (I'm about 162 right now I think).
On January 02 2009 14:28 clazziquai wrote: Yeah maybe I am aiming too high, I don't know. Does 10 pounds make a HUGE difference??
Well best of luck to you. 150 would be amazing to me ^^;;;
When i was a freshman and started wrestling i went from like 5'6 143 with 23% body fat to like 135 at 18% body fat and i could see a big difference. It's not so much the amount of weight, but how much muscle you put on, and what kind of weight you lose. You could stay the same weight, but trade out that fat for muscle via working out/eating right and look WAY better then if you just dropped some weight.
As a fellow azn, i'm shocked all you others want to lose weight. I'm 5' 7 and I fluctuate between 150-155lbs. Even though I eat alot, it's hard to put on weight LOl. Different perspective I guess.
My goal is to gain 20+ lbs. 190 would be amazing.
This is impossible though. Even when I eat like a maniac, I probably gain 1lb @ max, and lose it the next day.
edit: I guess it's b/c I don't eat junk food. But then I'd rather stay skinny.

i hate running so much though -_-;
oh well, i guess a good start is to eat healthier than i have been. gotta cut out the extra snacks -_-
I hated running too till about 2.5 years ago. It's great if you just use it as a way to relax. And then you realize you're cute and in better shape too. You're kinda fucked if you don't do any cardio and want to become better looking though
I was 158lb just before I went to Europe, I'm currently 160-162 haven't weighed myself in about a week.
If you need motivation I will gladly be your silent accountability partner sort of thing. We can make it a competition as to who can reach their goal first. Whether you're bulking or losing weight. Anyone else who wants to get on this would be awesome too, we can make collaborative blogs of all the progress =).
But yeah, I'm getting back into the diet and exercise program come Monday and I'd love to actually have a goal and motivation (competition) to get there. Let me know what you guys think.
I don't know if you really need to lose weight man, you look pretty thin. When you are reasonably thin like you are now, don't worry so much about the number, think about how in shape you are. Lift some free weights and get ripped.

I hate the North American mentality of bulking up, only abs and biceps look good when "ripped" (okay, maybe not even biceps) -__-;;
Yea I go to the gym and do free-weights, but I only do it so that I can eat whatever I want.
Wtf you want to lose weight at 5'11 160? You're probably already skinny as shit. I'm like 6'1 190 and trying to put on more weight And yes, american girls like ripped abs and biceps. That being said, if thats all someone works out, they're a fucking cunt.
p.s. wtf still losing weight like hell. i'm at like 192 (down 6 pounds since christmas!) despite eating a ton and working out It might be because i can't do squats at my gym at home Need to get back to school for unlimited meal plan and big gym! Wtf my jeans that used to fit perfect now need a belt to hold them up at work T_T

Hi. Just run a lot and shit. But it's winter right now... so... you should try bulking up in the winter. I find that easier. Bulk up in the winter, lose all the fat in the summer. It's easier to lose weight in the summer because you can just run outside and do a lot of cardio. When you run, you should run for more than 30 minutes; an hour is usually good enough. It's very difficult to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
I'll make like a weight loss/gain initiate blog later tonight and get people to sign up with their goals and plans, as for now... I don't have to start this until Monday. I'm grabbing a beer.
