First blog, and I am heavily leaning towards getting a tattoo. I don't know if I will regret this or not. I am getting a solid red maple leaf about a size of a loonie/dollar coin near my right ankle. Like this one except a bit lower and slightly to the back.
I am a guy and I am asian, to me I dont't really see any asians with tattoo( don't get me wrong, I am not getting it because I don't see other asians with tattoo), this is not gangster in anyway, just want to show who I am, my patriotic spirit, simple, straight forward, no bullshit, my dad will probably be pissed about it.... what can I say

Booooo. Get something more meaningful and original to you. And since you don't know what that is yet, don't get one at all. You shouldn't get a tattoo just for the sake of getting a tattoo...
This will just make you look like you just went to a theme park and put your stamp in a weird place.
|
It could be very meaningful to him, regardless of what kind of tattoo it is or what it looks like to others.
However, HomieZ, if those things are important to you, you should think carefully about it.
|
I didn't like it at all. "what is that, is that dirt?" ooh it's a tiny maple leaf...
Have a friend paint it with some kind of good paint and see how it feels like...

I know what it is that I want, I am just not sure If I should get it, you know once I get it done, there is no going back. Like you said, it kinda looks like I forgot to erase it after a visit from theme park.

I don't want it too big, then it messes up its look and draws too much attention. It is not suppose to grab people attention like: " hey look, I got giant maple leaf on my arm". It is for myself, I don't really care if other people see it or not.

First thought: ok, he's getting a tattoo and he's asking us for whether or not we think it's a good idea. Besides its a forum; he's new here; and, he can stay anonymous!
This is bad reasoning man no matter how you slice it.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though.
Girls usually get small tattoos on their ankle and the Canadian Flag thing gets redundant. Sure you want to show your red and white, who doesn't? To me it looks girlie.
|
I thought it was for when a girl asks "oh do you have any tattoos" and you go "yeah," "show me" and then you show her your silly little tattoo on your ankle. "Cool, did you do anything internationally for Canada" "oh, no, I just wanted it." I guess if you're lucky she'll have one too, since it's the most popular non-descript tattoo in Canada... But if you really wanna show your patriotism, why are you hiding it under your sock all the time except when you're at the beach.
By all means, if you do have a good personal reason, do it. But don't just get it cause you were born in Canada. So is everyone else you talk to.
|
Now I can't speak for everyone, but I feel that if you're going to mark your body for life, you better ink something that means something to you, personally. The novelty of the odd tribal on the arm or the like wears off when you're entering your golden years, especially if you can't remember why you got it in the first place.
As I said, tis only my opinion, but I thought doubly twice about my tattoos, and so should you.

Better design and black ink imo. Also location isn't great, it's very girly. Arms are more masculine.

Oops, I accidentally voted 'other' but I meant to vote 'No'. Just ride a public bus sometime if you want to see what tatoos look like when you get old. I think they rank in the top 3 of the most horrifying things ever.
Human bodies are already beautiful, I dont see the point of putting ink into your skin
If you arent sure if you'll regret it or not you probably will.

wasn't born, came here.

The face that you put "something else" in the pole tells me you just want a tattoo and this maple leaf is your latest idea. I totally disagree with bull tattoos, the only tattoos I agree with are ones of great significance and I mean great significance.
|
That tiny tattoo will look pretty dinky tbh, and it's in a pretty trivial location. Maybe enlarge and/or move the location?
|
hum..form far away it might just end up lookin like blood or a scab
|
Get one in Henna first, then see if you like it.
|
Be careful if you choose anything with a rigid shape though - if your skin changes it'll bend all out of shape and just look horrible. Something barely anyone considers..

"simple, straight forward, no bullshit" = no tatoo. Really.

I'm telling you right now, when I got my first tattoo I was a bit worried and so I had the design really really small. Luckily the guy at the parlor told me that it would look much better bigger, and he couldn't have been more right. If you really are that worried about having tattoo on your skin in a bigger way, maybe you are ready yet?
I suggest getting a bigger maple leaf if that is what you have your heart set on. Let there be good detail on it, and let it take longer than 5 minutes to get done so it has some more meaning to you. Just my 2 cents!
|
If me I would rather have that maple leaf bigger and placed on my calf. Not my ankle- thats for girls.
|
The reason many Asian's (at least Chinese) tend to stay away from tattoos is that traditionally, they were worn only by gang-bangers/triad. Thus, unless you want all you Asian friends/parents (moreso parents) to think you are a gangster, I'd stay away.
Even though you say you aren't getting it to be gangster, many Asian's I know would think it is.
What I'm trying to say is, if you live in an Asian community, or plan to marry an Asian girl, good luck getting their parents to like you.
|
man fuck what asian people think about you, who cares..."omg they think im a criminal" boo hoo, screw them and their biased opinions its not your problem its theirs...
im asian, and these things aggravate me
edit: but yeah if u want it don't get it on your feet plz XD, it is very girly, i suggest it to be bigger and put it on your fore-arm or shoulders w/e. not on your feet ;p.

I don't think they are gonna assume he is in some asian gang because he has a tiny tattoo of the maple leaf on his ankle. Don't you think thats a bit extreme? I'd hate to hang out with people that assume part of the canadian flag is a gang sign lol. My borther dates an asian girl (were white) and she has a traditional asian family, but they don't seem to mind that half his torso is tattooed (giant angel wing).
As for the OP, if you are going to get ink done, it's best to get it somewhat bigger, and to put a bit more thought into it. I mean, you are permenantly coloring that portion of your body, you should at least make it worth the experience.
|
dont get it on your ankle....you're a dude!
|
yeah i agree the small tattoo on the ankle is not really "manly". also i really don't like the design. why not just wear a maple leaf necklace or something to show that you are patriotic? a tattoo should be more meaningful and really the purpose of them is to show them off.
|
I hate Chinese families, can't do shit with distorted traditional values and beliefs. Bigger tattoo would cost alot more, I'll think about a better design for the money worth.
|
Well i don't really know what you want to put on the tattoo, but make sure its not too complicated or it will be messed up and look terrible.
|
-Dont get a shitty tattoo -Dont get a tattoo that only might only like for a period of time ("Fad Tattoo") -Dont get a tattoo if you're black (because your skin color will make the ink of tattoo look blue and it looks stupid and barely visible)
|
Don't get one on your ankle, get on your back right above your ass. (tramp stamp ftw!)
Wait, if you're chinese you should get a tattoo in Chinese that says "white people can't read this"... man, that'd be too sick.
|
you named yourself HomieZ this isnt to seem gangster or anything i suggest you wait for awhile, before you either turn "gangster" enough to tattoo something decent or reevaluate yourself before its too late and go with a pink heart on your lower back
|
My opinion: do what you want, everyone on TL is going to tell you tattoos are stupid etc etc, that's just how TL is. If you want to put it there, do it, if that's the design you want, do it. It's your choice. People saying tattoos are ugly...don't like tattoos. It's a subjective choice. I like ink, a lot of people don't. A lot of people seem to take it personally; you'll see so much seemingly arbitrary hatred for tattoos like Chinese characters, "symbols" as the fools who denigrate it call them. Ultimately, you just gotta make the choice for yourself. Ask yourself if you want to have it in a few years. If you don't know, then you can't really make the choice yet. Don't get a tattoo on a whim either.

I got a tattoo.
Probably not the smartest thing ever, but the location is not visible unless I'm naked. I suggest the high leg or back/chest. Anything on the lower arms is basically asking for trouble.
|
..the pic u linked us is a girl's.. dono if u knew that.. since the foot's got toenail polish on its toes..
imo tattoos are pretty badass but not many people that ive come by have nice ones.. i think the only actual cool ones are on real gangsters and people from prison..
in any case if you are to go through with it i am 100% sure that the ankle is for chicks.. and i think a cool tatoo has a story behind it
|
getting a tattoo, of a maple leaf, small, red, maple leaf - on your ankle? on your ankle? a small. red. maple leaf? is there some asian stigma about tattoos? im not surprised more than %70 say no. in the nicest possible way you have the gayest tattoo idea pal.
much love <3

get a puerto rican flag on your arm, way cooler and original
|
If you want something tiny on your foot, at least make it something manly. A ninja star! Otherwise, yea, the location and motif is too feminine.
