This comes down to founding father intent vs literalism, like the second amendment question (although the shoe's on the other foot this time) and other questions. What's really funny is that John McCain was born in Panama and had an even weaker claim to being a natural born citizen. Congress even passed a non-binding resolution declaring him a natural born citizen, for what that's worth. Too bad they didn't do one for Obama!

A Naturalized Citizen is a citizen who was born in America, however their parents either one or both were not either Natural Born citizens or Naturalized Citizens. Also, in order for an immigrant to become a Naturalized Citizen of the US, they must pass a test on the history of America and our Constitution and residing continuosly in America for 5 years. If a foreign spy manages to win an election I think the country has bigger issues at hand. I don't think a rule about natural born citizens is the biggest obstacle to planting an agent in the Oval Office. The whole election aspect probably poses a bigger hurdle.

I honestly think anyone who claims to be a US citizen should take this test.
Most of them would fail fucking miserably. Beyond miserably in fact. I remember taking a citizenship test back in history 1301 just to see what we knew as a class.
I was one of like three people out of THIRTY FIVE that passed the thing. It was embarrassing and by your definition I'm "merely" a naturalized citizen because my mother is not a citizen of the United States.

Truthfully, I think that the presidency should awarded based on ability, not popularity. But it's in the Constitution. The President MUST be a natural born citizen of the United States, must be at least 35 years old and must have been a permanent resident of the United States for at least 14 years.

That was a copy not the original. I had to furnish my birth certificate upon entering into the USCG, but yet the President of the US doesn't have to? No double standards there. Simply furnish the original and this whole arguement would be null and void. Then we can move on to the substantive issue of the 14th amendment and clarification of natural born citizen.
