I have 4 hours
  thedeadhaji, May 17 2008

before I have to wake up again to row X__X.

It's been... a long night.

We got our course module results from the last 6 months today. The result was that out of the 19 chaps in the course, 14 passed, 2 marginal failed, and 3 high passed. Marginal fail means they must high pass (70%+, which is actually difficult to achieve) on their research module in order to get their degree, and high pass means they need just a pass on their research part in order to graduate with distinction (high honors, etc). You can imagine that the result was gathering the troops to go on a fucking epic victory lap.

The guys who high passed were a French girl, a Britsh lad, and me O_O. LOL I think pple were surprised that I high passed considering I had been constantly saying how I dont give a shit about the course as long as I just dont fail, how I think the course is shit, and I just dont give a shit, give a shit, give a shit, give a shit, and dont give a shit. Lawl even the said British dude who's a good friend of mine was like "dude I seriously didn't think you'd ever get a high pass" when we were both sufficiently drunk.

I could go on and on about how some pple in the course are retarded, some pple who we all thought would high pass didn't, and how there is a complete hanus(sp) bitch from Imperial College who we all absolutely despise. Anyways...

6:30am - rowing
10:30am - lab
12:00pm - still lab
4:00pm - still lab
6:00pm - boat house
7:30pm - anchor (a pub) - 1 pint of stella. about 7 pple present
9:00pm - (wtf how did I only drink 1 pint during that time - too much bitching about the course I guess) move to the Fountain Inn, a pub - 1 pint of some beer, 2 pints of cider, 1 glass of whiskey and coke. I went to the John at least 6 times. I somehow think it's a good idea to chat with a dude with crooked teeth who can't even properly piss into the yernel. He thinks the THBC letters on my back means Boxing Club. Unfortunately, it means Boat Club. Not as manly, I'm afraid. By the end, 4 guys remain. The same 4 guys as fucking always.
12:00am - move to Club FEZ. Just another glass of whiskey and coke, dance around for 2 hours. Can't hear a thing as I exit.
2:00am - rather sober. Go to one of those greasy burger/fries joints that exist on all college campuses for a burger and fries. Me and the other dude who got the high pass sit on the wall in front of Kings College and bitch about retards and bitches in the course, and how we expected some other pple to fail, how we had both wished that the bitch Imperial college girl had failed, etc.

man the times don't really compute and aren't accurate but w/e. 2 pints of beer, 2 pints of cider, 2 glasses of whiskey and coke. The fucking mixing of drinks is deadly. THank GOD I declined my friend's suggestion of downing Yaegermeister or however the fuck you spell it. That shit was the demise of me last friday fuck.

I definitely paced myself reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllly wisely @ the fountain b/c if I had kept drinking at a steady pace I would have crashed before reaching FEZ. And the goal of the night was to keep fucking going, rather than crashing.

Mission accomplished.

Now I have 4 hours of sleep before I get to wake up for a freezing morning of rowing. Really, I probably should have drank harder but what can I do -_-;;.

(I know, I could have drank harder. Shut up.)

Sry, this blog is kinda boring. Even if I wrote about our course gossip, it wouldn't be enterataing.

Oh yea, maybe this will help make the blog a bit more interesting. My ass is bleeding, and it's not where you'd expect lawl. It's definitely from when I went commando for a day after being drenched rowing and having only worn a gimp suit and not having boxers to change into and not having time to go back to my room and going straight to the department. Commando + wet seat + khaki pants = mass friction on inner part of buttcheek = pain = similar to getting a fucking gym-floor-burn on your fucking ass. It sucks let me tell you. Fucking narrow seats of racing bikes fuck.

The drawback to the high pass thing is that there is a chance that the degree committee will change the requirements to high passes on both the course module and the research module, so I now have to actually TRY on my research instead of just coasting it in .

Tell me about alcohol abuse
  PsycHOTemplar, May 17 2008

So I've been drinking often, lately, and I figure I should try and figure out exactly what I'm doing to my body in case it's anything I really don't want. By often, I mean pretty much every day I have enough liquor to get into that stage of drunkeness where I remember everything that happens, but everything becomes much more enjoyable, and walking straight is something of a challenge I would have to focus on. I'm never hung over unless I had red wine, but normally I stick with the vodka. That's just FYI, in case you could give specific concerns.

Anyway, I've been reading thru wikipedia, and there's sort of conflicting information, or very vague unclear information. For example:

Some studies have suggested that in moderation, alcohol consumption has significant health benefits. These include a lower risk of heart attack,[7] lower risk of diabetes,[8] lower risk of Alzheimer's disease,[9] reduced risk of stroke,[10] and an increase in overall longevity.[11] One study found that a person fifty-five or older who consumed 1-3 drinks daily was half as likely to develop dementia linked to poor oxygen to the brain as a person who did not. Additionally, because alcohol increases 'good' cholesterol and decreases the 'bad' cholesterol, there are indications that frequent doses in moderation reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke. These benefits are all counteracted by excessive consumption.[12] The health benefits of moderate use have been disputed with researchers claiming that earlier studies that seemed to show such benefits were flawed. It is claimed that health benefits are only gained with heavy drinking where the harm outweighs the benefits.[13] A 2001 report estimates that medium and high consumption of alcohol led to 75,754 deaths in the USA. Low consumption has some beneficial effects so a net 59,180 deaths were attributed to alcohol.[14]

Alcohol intoxication affects the brain, causing slurred speech, clumsiness, and delayed reflexes. The condition is called alcohol intoxication or drunkenness, and eventually subsides. Alcohol stimulates insulin production, which speeds up the glucose metabolism and can result in low blood sugar, causing irritability. In excess, the poisoning can be severe, even lethal. A blood-alcohol content of .45% represents the LD50, or the amount which would prove fatal in 50% of test subjects. This is about six times the level of intoxication (0.08%), but vomiting and/or unconsciousness are triggered much sooner in people with a low tolerance, among whom such high levels are rarely reached unless a large amount of alcohol is consumed very quickly.[12] However, chronic heavy drinkers' high tolerance may allow some of them to remain conscious at levels above .4%, despite the serious health dangers.

Chronic effects of alcohol consumption include effects of its metabolism in the liver, its carcinogenity, its effects on the brain, and effects of addiction (alcoholism). For example, cirrhosis is stereotypically found in heavy drinkers. The consumption of alcohol does not kill brain cells but rather damages dendrites, the branched ends of nerve cells that bring messages into the cell. Alcohol dilates the channels in the cellular structure that regulate the flow of calcium, causing excess calcium to flow into the cells and stimulating increased activity. This does not kill the whole cell, but causes a loss of the end segments, leading to the loss of incoming signals and therefore a change in brain function. Most of this damage is temporary, but the recovery process changes nerve-cell structure permanently.[15] Some forms of cancer have been linked to excessive consumption of alcohol. "3.6% of all cancer cases worldwide are related to alcohol drinking, resulting in 3.5% of all cancer deaths" (see Alcohol and cancer for details).[16]

Alcohol is also a potentially addictive substance, with numerous health effects, and potentially lethal effects of withdrawal. Alcoholism has more and more serious effects on health than moderate drinking. Alcoholism is a major concern for public health; like other kinds of addiction, it is also viewed as a form of immorality. Propensity to alcoholism is partially genetic; individuals with such propensity may have a different biochemical response to alcohol. Alcohol addiction can also lead to malnutrition because it can alter digestion and metabolism of most nutrients. Severe thiamine deficiency is common due to deficiency of folate, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and selenium. Muscle cramps, nausea, appetite loss, nerve disorders and depression are some common symptoms. It can also lead to osteoporosis and bone fractures due to vitamin D deficiency (vitamin D helps in calcium absorption).

Doesn't define how much a "drink" is, doesn't say whether the man who had benefits from light drinking daily, would experience any negatives from "chronic consumption" of alcohol (which presumably, if you drink every day that's pretty chronic).

So yeah, just curious. If any of you have some knowledge on the subject, tell me, and preferably how you came to know it (common knowledge is pretty useless, but if you learned it from your bio/health class or something, I'll be far more convinced).

Also: I don't really care to hear any psychological effects about it. I just want to know about physical health issues.

The thing that worries me most is the info I've heard about alcohol destroying your liver, but I'm not sure if that's more from heavy drinking, or from drinking often (but intelligently).

Cheers,

Wish to start porn business
  Polyphasic, May 17 2008

So you guys who have been to places like: www.redtube.com, www.tube8.com, or www.youporn.com will notice that there are a lot of guys who have sex and they record it for whatever reason.

I do my share of clubbing and picking up girls. Most of them are one night stands. I have so far been in the habit of getting their number, and then taking a picture with my phone just so I "remember who they are", but really it's kind of like collecting ears in Diablo. Honestly, I have yet to get a dead on 10 yet, but I'd say I'm hovering around the 8s with the occasional 7 or 9 quality girls.

So do you guys know of where I can get some very very very small digital cameras, like the ones that look like sunglasses and nobody knows you are recording? I think bang brothers has some of those, or at least I saw some people using them while picking up and banging chicks, but I don't know where to get them or how much they cost. Would love one though . then I can build my video collection instead of just my crappy cell phone picture collection, which I don't even know how to save on the computer.

A new beginning

Salutations Teamliquid.net

Hello and nice to meet you my dear reader. As you might have noticed I’m quite new here at teamliquid.net. I’ve been reading this website for quite a while now and since I do like the vibe this place had I’ve finally decided to make an account and start with (trying) to contribute a bit to this community.
Before reading on I’d like to give you a small warning: I’m not funny, original, artistic, intelligent or by any means a good writer. I’ll do my best to entertain and/or interest you but most likely I will bore you. So bear in mind that any minute spend reading my stuff is another minute wasted.

Introduction
Before we’ll get into anything serious I think I owe you an apology for not introducing myself yet. Introductions on the internet are always a strange thing. I could write my name, where I live, what my favourite colour is and how may pets I have but I doubt anyone would give a damn. However not introducing myself would be rude so I’ll just tell a bit about my time spend on the internet.
I’d call myself a wanderer. I’ve been around in cyberspace for quite a while, played a lot of games and have been part of quite a few forums. I’ve seen communities rise and I’ve seen them fall apart. By no means am I trying to brag about being a “veteran” or “elite” at this whole internet thing. All I’m saying is that even though I’m new to teamliquid.net I am not new at the internet. =)

The Purpose of this Blog
I’m actually not quite sure yet what I’ll do with this. For me personally the hardest part in anything is just getting started, as soon as I’m doing something things can come natural. The idea behind this is just to find a way to connect you, the TL Community. When you are new to a community its often like moving in too a new city. Everything is new, the people, the rules, the good and bad places to hang out.
You can choose to not connect at all with the inhabitants and just sit back to read and hold back on any discussions. You could try to break the ice with a nice racist joke (not recommended) or you could just participate directly in any discussion.
With this blog I’m trying to do something new and I wonder how it will work out. I’ll mostly abuse this place to post any thoughts about my life or life in general with maybe a bit of SC mixed in here and there (lest face it though, the odds of me producing a story about SC that is able to rival or come even close to one of plexa’s works of art is quite low ).

For everyone that’s still with me (this text isn’t that long so I expect at least a few ) thanks for your time and I hope you found it enjoyable. If you desperately want to reply to increase your post count but you don’t really have anything useful to say just tell me your favourite color! + Show Spoiler +

Not even a slave...
  ilovezil, May 17 2008

...feels more owned than I do right now.

So, you know when you work at a retail store, you're on the lookout for suspicious people. Well yea, long story short, I stopped a woman at the door and told her to take the hair out of the bag, only to be utterly shocked when she took the hair out of the SHOPPING BAG and showed me the hair she BOUGHT. And to top that off, it was in front of a crowd of people who simply shook their head in dismay, while I scurried away with my head hung in deep, abject humiliation.

So that would explain my current situation, why I'm wallowing in a corner of the back storage room. Somebody please post an embarassing situation that happened to them so I feel better T_T

1000 Milk Jars
  Slithe, May 17 2008

Another math puzzle.

You've got 1000 jars of milk, and exactly one of them is poisoned. You want to figure out which one is poisoned. What you have at your disposal is an infinite number of rats that you can feed the milk. You have 3 hours to figure out which one is the poisoned one, and the poison takes a nondeterministic amount of time between 2 and 3 hours to kill a rat.

The question is, what's the fewest number of rats you have to use to find out for sure which jar is poisoned?

Here's a trivial hint:

Happy belated birthday d(^^!)b
  proA.June91, May 17 2008

Hi guys!

Little June is here, right here after a long time no see. How are you these days? Everything is ok? For me, I'm still fine and today...(I'm glad to tell you that) is my day, the day when it first came and has been giving me much more energy, passion and love to make a strong step into eSport scene.

As you can see in my ID, it's proAJune91. Yes, I'm June but it's not the point which must be shown at this time. I mean, now, you'd better notice at "proA" word...

Hmmm... proA is the initial of our multigaming, proArmy. Established in 2006 by 4 young boys with the steel hearts inside. In order to show the world Vietnamese gamers' talent, we all came together as the big family due to the same heart beat and purpose. In the earlier days of ours, we met many difficulties such as training conditions, personal skills, the lack of leader's experiences.....etc but now, I'm so proud of that name, whenever, wherever.

Each of us is the soldier who will fight for the honor and passion for life. And that's why we called it "army". However, that army of these soldiers is not made for fun, trained by noobs but striving all days long with full of energy. This is "pro".

From the beginning of 5 eSport games as well as StarCraft, WarCraft, Fifa, Counter Strike and Pro Evolution Soccer: Winning Eleven (PES), proA's just expanded itselft recently, going along with the trend which is prevailing throughout the world: DotA (EGT Event) (besides new game is Special Force: Dragon Fly - the best MMOFPS game in Korea 2007). Although we're the first and the most successful multigaming in Vietnam now, there's a truth that we've to admit: We're still nothing to the world.

But it's not the bar which can stop us from eSport. After many great efforts of the whole gaming days after days (1.5 years to be exact) in many Vietnamese eSport leagues, finally, we've got our sponsor from the largest company of developing software and providing internet services, not mentioned to its huge number of cellphones galleries in Vietnam, or some remarkable MMO games such as MU Online, Special Force: Dragon Fly.....Behold....FPT Telecom. [ Sounds great, doesn't it? d(^^!)b ]

So well, in our second birthday (24/04/08), we celebrated our offline birthday party, took some photos to memorize and announced the sponsorship officially to all members. Here is the details:

proArmy Gaming

I <3 proArmy

proArmy <3 you :X

Our young Counter Strike team and the boy with the helmet is the leader.. lol ;P ( EGT Event )

Not the whole proArmy (some members got extra classes so they couldn't attend) but still big, right? ^^!

And so much more that I will post later...Sorry for my poor photoshop skill . Well, It's enough for today, I think. Byebye! GG GL HF!

Love
Junnie

p/s: Happy belated birthday, proA ;P

Kansas City Barbeque
  Kaotu, May 16 2008

So school is finally done (sort of... I'm writing a paper from home, but at least I'm home), finally back to the good old heartland out of lame Michigan. But I'm not spending my summer here in St. Louis... Nope,

I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.

I'll be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
I'm gonna be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
With my Kansas City baby
And a bottle of Kansas City wine.

Well I might take a train
I might take a plane, but if I have to walk
I'm gonna get there just the same
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.

I'm gonna pack my clothes
Leave at the break of dawn
I'm gonna pack my clothes
Everybody will be sleeping
Nobody will know where I've gone
Cause if I stay in town
I know I'm gonna die.
Gotta find a friendly city
And that's the reason why,
I'm going to Kansas City
Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.

Q: "What's so great about KC anyway?"

A: Barbeque.

That's all I'm doing this summer. Eating barbeque. Not just anyone gets a chance to eat KC bbq, which is a real shame. Perhaps you're familiar with "KC Masterpiece" bbq sauce. Of course that stuff only shares superficial resemblance to the real thing (plus you probably suck at barbecuing meat, if you're anything like the rest of the U.S. Don't even tell me Texas > KC bbq, that's a lie, although Memphis does have some good stuff, but KC is still the best).

Jack Stack, Zarda's, I'm sure the list goes on. Which is part of the reason I'm writing this, who is from KC and has recommendations. My goal is to eat only bbq when I eat out, I'll probably fail but it's a noble goal anyway. Where else is there but Jack Stack and Zarda's? I know there are plenty of places but I want to know what's good if anyone knows. Drop some names, locations, etc.

I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come

Best Korean Ballads
  snowbird, May 16 2008

Ok, so I usually hate Korean music.
But these ballads are an exception and I really like them for some reason, so I wondered if some of you who may know similar ones could recommend some?

I don't like it when male singers sing with this gay voice and lots of vibrato, and the chorus melody is the most important I guess.

Lee Eun Mi - aein isseoyo (이은미 - 애인 있어요)

Seon Ye - Il Wol Ji Ga (선예 - 일월지가)

bluedawn - bomi omyeon (푸른 새벽 - 보옴이 오면)

And now two male singers, but I like those less than the ones listed above.

MC The Max - jamsiman anyeong (MC The Max - 잠시만 안녕)
(remake of X-Japan - Tears)

izi - eun geub sil (izi - 응급실)

[nostalgic] Lost love x_X
  evanthebouncy!, May 16 2008

So today was talking to friends in china over QQ, people from my elementary school.
Got me to think of this girl I liked in 5th grade but never went around to tell her, when I left my hometown for BeiJing in 6th grade I never seen her again. I kept trying to imagine if I have some kind of tracking devise, like a GPS that plots her location, I'd go seek her out, but no such devise I came across. I kept imagine, when I go to new places, tourist places, that I would see her, and I always imagine she's on a car or in train or something aweful fast and I'd chase it and shout "HAI HAI Do you Remember me?!" and we could all sit down and talk about our feelings.
Awhile ago I was invited to this QQ group, much like msn group, of my old elementary school. I hoped to find her but my friend told me she left the group awhile ago, and I was fairly dissapointed. I searched her name "何昕瑞" on baidu(chinese' equivalent of google), and found a giant name listing under
"何氏姓名册[四川音乐学院论坛]"
I went in it's basically a name log for all the people that goes to this school. I got the administrator's email and emailed him/her asking if I could be put into contact with her, but the email long expired.
I searched again today in vain, but the name log forum website was down.

I remember why I liked her, she was bit bouncy herself, fairly energetic but also peaceful, non-excerting and kept low profile even if her grades are so much better than ours. I dunno if she's still the same, but I had no additional memory of her other than the good ones I kept, should be nice to see her again and see how time changed things. Maybe she's ugly fat angry girl, still, want to see how things turned out, have it settled, at least tell her that at one point I appreciated her, tell her what I couldn't back then, if just for a laugh.
Ah... cruel cruel world ~_~

Anime
  azndsh, May 16 2008

It's just so much better than American TV.

Series I've seen (doesn't include a lot of movies, etc) with my personal rating out of 5 for [fun/story]

  • [4/3] Claymore - excessive and fun action, plot is okay but the anime original ending sucks

  • [5/5] Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - incredibly awesome and possibly my overall favorite (2nd season is currently airing), so I'm not going to spoil anything

  • [4/3] Cowboy Bepop - overrated IMO, the story was too episodic for my liking, and not a huge fan of the characters

  • [2/5] Death Note - never watched the last 3rd, but a very suspenseful and interesting story

  • [3/3] ef - a tale of memories - teen drama, based off a pair of visual novels, decent but I really wish they connected the stories

  • [2/2] FLCL - call me stupid, but I don't see why people like it so much

  • [4/4] Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - reminds me of Gundam Wing, series has only aired halfway

  • [3/1] Mobile Suit Gundam Seed - repetitive battles, excessive use of flashbacks, most uninspired overused plot, super-emo protagonist... second half just sucked

  • [-/-] Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - first anime I ever watched so I can't give an objective score, but it blew my mind when I first saw it

  • [4/4] Nodame Cantabile - if you're into nice, simple, fun stories and appreciate classical music

  • [5/-] Ouran High School Host Club - shoujo, but it's great comedy and quite fresh

  • [3/3] Rumbling Hearts - teen drama, also based off a game, decent story

  • [5/3] Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - epic action and fun, extremely disappointed by ending

  • [5/5] The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - by far my favorite non-action anime, and an ending that I truly liked

  • [3/4] true tears - probably the best teen drama I've seen

Yes, those ratings are pretty harsh, since a) I only watch shows that are highly recommended and b) I don't finish many shows. Although, I'd be happy to debate ratings -_-;;

So anyone have any suggestions? The only show I have lined up is Monster. At this rate, I feel like I'm going to grow out of my anime phase soon.

Also, if you mention Naruto or Bleach, I will ban you from my blog.

English is a weird language
  Mandalor, May 16 2008

Well I'm studying english and I got into an argue with my professor about a certain sentence he translated from german into english. The topic was "subjectivization", which means you pick a certain word in a sentence and make into the subject of the sentence.

Example: "It will be sunny in London today."
By using London as the subject and removing the it-dummy-subject it could be rephrased into: "London will be sunny today."
This can rarely be done in german so it sounds very confusing.
The sentence we had a debate about was really odd, though.

"Four people can sleep in this tent."
My prof rephrased that into: "This tent sleeps four people."

So, native speakers, I need your help. Does this sentence sound weird to you as well? Do you think it is grammatically correct? And most importantly, would you say that?

update on how aweosme i am.
  MoNKeYSpanKeR, May 16 2008

http://teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=71493

From this thread we can conclude that i did not sleep tonight, and to inform everyone of my day ahead of me here is what i have to do.

Today is some stupid thing at school where we are riding bikes there becuase gas prices are too high (i live in NY, USA) so in the next 50 mintues i will be on a bike riding 2 miles to school.

then i have around 7 hours of school. Followed by 4 hours of work.

My day is about to get fucking owned, but it was SO WORTH IT. Simply for one game of the night.

To sum up my night here is what happened, we started playing at around 12:45, it's now 6:13 and we are done for the day.

Our first few games don't go so well, basically we lost a lot of points gained some and the day ended with a negative 50ish points. We lost to the same 3 kids about 3 games through the entire night, so it's about 5:55 and i have to go in a few to get ready for school, so we decide to play one last game vs these kids who beat us in the gayest ways possible.

So in return its a ZZvPT on Python, we spawn 3 and 6, they spawn 12 and 9, we double 4pool hit the protoss (who is 2gating) We kill him proceed to 2on1 the terran with our awesome economies. the protoss goes down after a little while then the terran starts coutneirng and stuff, we kill one of his counters and we leave.

Now during this game we decided that if we won with this game with our little cheese we would reset our stats in the middle of the game making them be playing a CvD ranked game.

The product is this.

Oil price is going to bankrupt me
  mdb, May 16 2008

So, 1 litre petrol = 1.22 EUR.

My shitty opel astra 92 burns 12l/100km.

To and back to work are 25kms. 25x5=125kms per week just to go to work.

125x4 = 500kms per month.

Add at least 200kms going somewhere else during the month.

That makes it at least 700kms per month.

7x12 = 84 litres. 84 x 1.22EUR ~ 100 EUR just for petrol.

The average salary in Bulgaria is 300 EUR (communism FTW).
So one third of my money goes for petrol. Thats ridicilous.
