There's no prize, there's no one to tell you what's acceptable or not. It's just your own self-satisfaction at having written a full-fledged novel. If you fill up a word document with 50,000 "I"s, yes, that's a novel. But so what lol.
The point is that it probably won't be good, but just writing 50,000 words that are generally coherent is in and of itself an accomplishment. You do it for "fun." |

Pretty interesting, never heard about this. i kinda just started typing stuff up when i saw this.
Two paragraphs in, i realized i only got to 200 or so words. Now i appreciate how hard it is to write a novel, not just how good various novels are. |

Anyways, as is stated on their page, the point of this is not to create a bestseller. It's simply to finish it - they even state, there is a 99.9% chance that 99.9% of your writing will be bad. But that's OK. Just the simple process of putting pen to paper (finger to keyboard?) for such a long time should help you with writing/entertaining yourself/making yourself suffer.
I'd personally encourage you all to try it. You don't have to finish, but at least give it a whirl. I kinda regretted not having time to do this (or even to start attempting it) the last couple of years. I'm still busy this year, but I'll still try. Whee. |
