I taped up my injured fingers and it still hurt every time I hit the damn ball. I would usually accompany my swing with a yell of pain, but still I had some very nice shots including hitting the green on #9 (island green similar to sawgrass #17). After the round I decided to take it easy on my fingers for a while. I rested the fingers all week and finally hit again today. I did a lesson followed by 9 holes on a local course. Although they are not better I arrived at the conclusion that I will greatly reduce the wear on my hands by holding the club less tight, and it's worth the bother of getting used to it. I even tried hitting out another bucket after my round and was getting the hang of loosening up my grip. So, the conundrum I had last time seems to be almost resolved. Also we worked on short game mostly at my lesson (easier on the hands I suppose) and I am getting my chipping and putting decent. Had mostly 1-2 putts today on the course <3 I'll wait until I have some kind of dramatic news before I post again about golf. P.S. How the heck do I get a handicap? It seems like a huge pain in the ass if you don't belong to a private club... the pro told me it's a good idea to get one soon though so I can play if I get invited to some kind a member-guest event in the future.
Id recommend looking into different types of grips. I had cord grips and they hurt like a bitch if i practiced at all. I personally like the cheap rubber grips more than anything. The tour cord has the little strings in it and those are the things that just rape your hands. Definitely work on gripping the club softer though. A good way to tell if you are gripping it too tight is if the club feels light.
Getting a handicap is a bitch if you dont belong to any sort of course/club. I dont have one....there are online ones that arent legit that you can get. There are SOME legit online ones (michigan has one through the Golf Association of Michigan) but not all courses are on there etc.
Id love to get one....i assume im ~ a 5. Need a registered handicap to play in most big golf tournaments (state amateur, us am qualifier, etc) |

Wow a 5 handicap is amazing if it is true... that means you average like what... 80 on an average course?
My problem isn't with the grips though I don't think... since I only hurt myself where my fingers rub together (mainly my right ring finger and left index finger). |

| really what helped my swing was cocking it up slowly then releasing all my strength when I go down. Too tight a grip can cause peeling of the skin too and that's no good. You got to be gentle and remember that its all in the hips. |

As I said in my previous blog when I 'just relaxed' I couldn't hit the ball decently but I think it will be easier to get used to a looser grip than I originally expected. |

| you don't have to belong to any private club or anything to get a handicap.. usually there is a state golf association that runs the handicap system...I live in Arizona and the Arizona Golf Association runs our handicap system...to get the handicap all you have to is go to your local course and register for their mens club.. the handicap last for only a year so you have to renew each year. I am sure the pro that is giving you lessons could provide some information. |

I wear a glove on my left hand. I've had a problem on my left index finger and right ring finger (where they touch each other while using an interlocking grip).

why would you make a title that obviously implies such and then be like oh Noooo its not about that at all!? Surely the title "golf grip" or "golf tips" would be more appropriate??!

| All I have to say is that get a megaphone. It won't help your grip, but if you accidentally loosen your grip too much, you might throw your club, and the people soon to get hit might actually need to hear the "FORE!" |

Bumbing in here lol, thats actually quite a good idea, just to test it out on how much you can loosen the grip w/o throwing the club. Go to an isolate area and "test" throwing the club ^_^. Just be sure theres no 1 near lol
Otherwise, like another fellow man have said here, have you tested other grips? seems like your quite new to golf as you dont have an handicap yet? .

Haha testing throwing it actually is an interesting idea. The threshold is probably not where I think it is.

I don't think the grips are the problem. As I said, the torn skin is not where my hand contacts the surface of the grip. On the other hand, smaller or bigger grips could change the way I wear my hands. First however I'm gonna work on holding them less tightly.
seems like your quite new to golf as you dont have an handicap yet? .
Depends what you mean by 'new to golf' I guess. I mean on a good day playing 9 holes I can get several pars so I'm definitely not new, but on the other hand if you look at my entire round on an average day I still make some pretty big mistakes so I'm no single digit handicap either.
BTW I would have had a handicap much sooner probably if it was convenient... it's a pain to do it if you don't belong anywhere and my parents never belonged to a club or anything so neither have I. |
