As I was browsing Liquidparty yesterday, I saw something on the sidebar: “Patch 1.4 PTR Notes” it read, and, still moderately interested in SC2 at this time, I peaked in to see what changes Blizz were making. I saw Immortals were getting their range boosted by 1, and I fist pumped because Immortals one of my favourite units to use as a ‘Toss player. I saw that Warp Prisms were getting a buff to their shield and I started contemplating how this would affect the unit, would it even make it more viable? And then I paused, realizing that I really missed Starcraft 2.
A while ago (back before Spanishiwa was just breaking out), I left SC2 for LoL. This was mostly caused by a lot of pressure from my friends to come over to it. I tried convincing them for quite a long time that Starcraft 2 was still awesome, we had been playing it since release. This went on for a month, where I would get to play 3 games of SC2, then my friends dragged me on to LoL once again. Over time, I played less and less of SC2, because I had less and less time, and my friends were getting more and more persistent. Finally, I just stopped playing after a very frustrating game.
I was mid-diamond at the time, and my match history tells me it was 14 weeks ago. It was on Tal’darim Altar, and I was excited for a good macro match, nonetheless, I went my standard 2 gate + robo in to expand that’s quite reactive anyway, just in case he was trying something funky. Anyway, I scout and find that my Terran opponent was 2 raxing, and then I realised, I was screwed. Why? I just had to look at the choke of my base to see that a forcefield delay (1 -> another -> big enough force to hold), would not work, as the choke to my base was 2 forcefields wide. Nonetheless, I attempt to press on, with a rushed 2 sentries, using all my chronoboosts on them, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get that last sentry out in time for the 2 forcefields and the dude demolished my base over with the scvs and marines. I was pissed to say the least, as I was expecting a good solid macro match typical to the map, and this dude gets a 33% chance that he got me right there and I was still 2 seconds from holding. Yet, the most frustrating thing was that he said: “Sorry, it’s the only thing I can do.” I was furious that someone could get to the same level as me, working for ~8 months on this game (casually and hardcore mode), yet he could just scv marine all-in every single game and win in diamond from sheer luck. So I never came back, and just focused on playing LoL so I could get better then my friends.
Well, LoL is not fun anymore, mostly because retards are retards and a loss doesn’t feel the same way in LoL as it does in SC2. You can do things the best out of anyone in the game, but realise your bottom lane is feeding 0/8/0, and you know it’s GG from there. Mostly I’m just playing through the motions trying to get better so it’s more enjoyable to play, but it’s not working. I want to come back to SC2, where losing can only be your fault and improvement is always in reach, without any outside factors, no luck of the draw, just you against your opponent. Finally, what’s changed in the world of SC2 since I’ve been gone. It appears that the 1/1/1 is doing well against ‘Toss in PvT, who popularized it, what does it look like? I just want to get back in to the game that I know I’ll love as soon as possible, so I can get to loving it again, so if Tl can help me get in to it that much quicker, I’ll be very grateful.
My pencils are sharp enough. Even the dull ones will make a mark.

PvT, you'll want to learn HuK's 20 food FE. Very solid build that can hold anything if executed properly, and gives you an ultrafast expo. You can hold a 1/1/1 all in (which, btw usually involves 3-4 banshees, 3-4 tanks and a ton of marines at 9:00 if i'm not mistaken), just look at QTIP's guide to defeating the 1/1/1. If he's not going 1/1/1, get charge, templar archives, +1 armor, and go zealot archon until you have 3-4 bases secured. Once you have 3-4 bases secured, throw down two robos at the same time and transition into stalker colossus in the really late game.
PvZ, you'll want to learn 1 gate expand, and to place your next two gates between the bottom of your ramp and your nexus to wall off one side (to prevent runbys and to make surrounds on the nexus harder). After that, stalker archon is becoming quite popular lately, idk I'm not the best person to ask about PvZ.
PvP, I'd suggest you check out 4kmonk's compilation of anti-4gate strats. It explains some stats about each build, shows how easy it is to execute, how many probes you usually have when the 4gate comes, etc. Decide how much you're willing to sacrifice in order to easily repell the 4gate, and learn the build provided for it.
Welcome back, hope you enjoy!
