So I'll be making the arduous drive on Saturday morning, six or so hours, to get to where I shall be staying/studying...
I'm sort of nervous, I think I'll probably panic for the first few days, then settle down.
Just curious, what are the best non-perishable foods? I shall be stocking up on them before I leave home. Anything else I should bring that no one mentions?

are you saying that you're a freshman? If so, damn didn't know you were that young. If not...disregard this.'
Also stereotypical as fuck but I love having ramen. Other than that you'll (probably?) be on a mealplan so just snack foods. |

| Dried pasta is good, takes like 10 mins to cook and you can put most savoury things on it to make it taste semi-decent. Any tinned food like spaghetti will keep you going for a week or so at least until you get settled in and start cooking, which I would recommend you do cause you save so much money and it's also better for you than eating ready made stuff. |

Hey you're moving up to Sydney right? Barcraft thread....
I did the same thing when I moved into dorms, I still have a tin of tomato soup from Aldi which is now 4 years old. Don't buy too much soup. |

a great basis for every food would be Couscous it is pretty much unperishable and you just put some boiling water over it and 5min later the stuff is good to eat. It fills you up fast and you can eat it with pretty much anything.

Make sure you bring nail clippers! And other little stuff like that, but nail clippers were actually the tiny thing I missed the most in first year residence =P other than that, EXTRA EXTRA CLOTHING of every type, you WILL lose it and most importantly socks 'cause they're a major pain in the ass.
As far as food goes it all depends whether you get a meal plan or not. If you get a meal plan just bring a bunch of cereal and stuff, things you'll be able to make in your room and stuff. If you get a kitchen or something like that even you're lucky, I had a microwave for my entire floor so don't rely on the ability to cook anything.
If you have a kitchen buy SHITLOADS of perogies and pasta and stuff like that, boil it for ten minutes and you're gooooood to go. Don't try to get fancy at all unless it's something you're really into and you're willing to put in extra effort because cooking is hard.
Good luck =) res is super sweet, make sure you actually study though. It's hard sometimes. |

UWS Bankstown in Milperra. Was the only course I was able to get in to with my ATAR that had the best classes I could take so it would be easier for me to transfer to ANU next year. |

I second couscous, it's absolutely great to have about to just eat when you can't be bothered.
Also, I strongly recommend you get some seasonings you like. Obvious choices are salt and pepper, but there are lots in shops that're really tasty and will add a lot of flavour to anything really easily, and they last a long time too.
For example, I like to fry eggs in vegetable oil (protip: put some garlic cloves in some oil and use that on occasion if you like garlic) and sprinkle it with pepper and steakhouse pepper. Tastes fucking amazing when you fry it just right and get the peppery flavours to infuse into the yolk just right. |
