I haven't posted in a month. This past month I've secluded myself from a lot of things online. Ironically, I've been laddering more though I've been mostly offline in my relations.
I originally planned to make a parody thread for my 2k. Something about a kpop artist joining EG. But I hadn't the time or the care. So I simply stopped posting. A lot has happened since then, and I'm gonna share some of the things I've put on my persona journal here. Strange that I choose to share this with TL instead of my public blog that people I know IRL follow. But I love you, TL.

I'm turning 18 tomorrow. Actually, in about 4 hours. It's so scary to think that I'm already almost 18, that I'm gonna move out in 6 months, that I'm not a kid anymore. I still feel like a kid though.
I've been needing an outlet to write in. Somewhere that people I interact with everyday won't read and talk to me about, but somewhere where someone, anyone, might listen. Hopefully this helps.
There were a lot of things I wanted to write about. My experiences in Track this year, family stuff, Lent among them. But I'll stick to two of the more important subjects: college and starcraft. Oh, and names.
On college. I don't think I've told anyone (parents aside) my full list of schools yet.
Accepted: University of California at San Diego (I'm looking at you, Froadac!) as Undeclared, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne as Biology (any TLers nearby, this is likely my choice!)
Waitlisted: University of California at Irvine (SD took me but not Irvine, wtf), New York University (means I won't be able to live near/hang out with TLNY, most notably blasterion ;; )
Rejected: University of California at Berkeley (yeah, if Irvine didn't take me, lol), Cornell (LOL)
Waiting on decisions from: Stanford, Notre Dame (my number 1).
I mean, we can pray right?
I'm not disappointed that I didn't get into most of these schools. I really wasn't banking on it. As long as one of UIUC, ND, or NYU took me I was gonna be pretty set. I want to leave California behind for a little while and explore the world and see where it takes me. The last time I did so, I went to New York and with help from TL, I was able to spend time with the bw community there and I had a great experience. So thank you for that. Hopefully in college, I'll find a new set of friends, actually join a group, play in CSL, etc. Many goals.
It's somewhat appropriate that, at UIUC, I'll be going to school with two friends from the internet that I've never met but have known for years. Some of my best friends, you know?

On Starcraft (and video games)
This is the first season I haven't watched all of the code S games in a long time. Since really early 2011, but I've been busy this week. I've only been able to watch the DRG vs theSTC series, and it was good to watch, but I was tired enough that I wanted to sleep.
On the upside, I've been laddering as protoss more. Finally hit top 30 diamond with no bonus pool. 33 wins or something close to that. I feel like I don't really want to play now that there's no bonus pool, but I'm glad I can beat zergs now. With 7gate +2 Blink timings... PvP still a coinflip for me in terms of when I win or lose. PvT ezpz.
As for MLG, I'm so proud of MKP. I once called him the guy that'll break your heart over and over again unintentionally, and I'm glad to see he's gone away from that.
More importantly though, I'm proud of the Halo community for stepping up. I actually followed Reach more than SC2 (in terms of how much time I watched, though I had dual stream open most of the time). I know there's a lot of hate about console shooters but this is the community I really came from. Aside from pokemon... It's nice to know that they're all still alive and kicking, no matter how different it all is. Top 8 isn't so far away from Top 4 now, and I don't know if that's good or bad. But it makes games excellent.
That leads me to my next part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfKbS5RMMAk Maybe the last 2 songs should be in the other order...
Names.
I've changed the last bastion (my twitter lol) of my old name that I created when I was younger (13) for pokemon. I'm a person who likes records. I have AIM logs from years ago, my (personal) blog's had personal ideas from years ago, etc. I like the history of things, and I've always felt that its important. I know TL has a lot of emphasis on respecting your username, but I've grown away from the little boy who played pokemon religiously, trading and EV training and battling on shoddy. I'm different; I deserve a different name.
Ironically, I like to change my name a lot. Its usually a series of related ideas. I went from initials of an old name, to having the initials represent something else, to finding Juliette and sticking with it. I'll keep this for any online accounts, I feel, but for other things that may or may not have people I'll know in person associated with it, I've picked something different.
I've always been scared of protecting my identity for some reason. My online life and personal life are separate for the most part, but the same in others.
Believe it or not, Juliette isn't actually my name... lol.
I actually walked by a friend singing the Taylor Swift song, "Love Story" and when she got to the part that goes "marry me Juliet" I only heard the Juliet part and I turned and had a "wtf" moment.
Anyway enough of your time. Here's to another year of TL, of Starcraft, of living.
Cheers.

This is quite melancholic for some reason
Oh and this "Actually, in about 4 hours. It's so scary to think that I'm already almost 18, that I'm gonna move out in 6 months, that I'm not a kid anymore" doesn't follow.
I'm 28 working fulltime, studying part-time and being all "grown-up" but I'm still a kid. I still run around in the rain, and love bubbles. I never got the whole "I'm an adult now". Most adults are clueless. Just cause you wear a suit doesn't mean you no shit ...
Keep smiling, the world ain't so bad.
Edit: I counter your melancholy with my view on life + Show Spoiler +Last edit: 2012-03-30 13:21:49 |

Out of curiosity... what was your pkmn username? (unless you changed it because you didn't want people to know of course). Interesting that we have similar perspectives on managing real life/online identities.
happy 2k :o |

| Yeah... things don't really change as you get older like you'd expect them too |

^^
thanks guys.
They'll change enough for me that its significant, I fear. I'm moving away from home for the first time in my life and I'm not as independent as I feel I should be. I think that's the biggest change.
I think the music is what sets that melancholic mood. But its good music :[.
Just that my POV, I won't be near home. I'm in southern california right now and I'm heading somewhere cold and stuff, it'll be so different and I won't know how to act. It'll be a good experience.
I'm pretty content right now. Not unhappy, not excited. Just content. |

Around 100-150 kids in my high school go to U of I every year, and I've visited the campus a lot, so I can tell you that you'll have a lot of fun there. Great school in all respects, you won't be disappointed going there.
Had similar feelings about independence going into college, but don't worry about it. Take things a step at a time and you'll be fine. |
