Its amazing how a single sound or smell could recall a lost memory.
I just turned on our oven for the first time in our apartment. It had smelled a bit like gas, even though its an electric oven, with a faint burnt smell. And for the first time in over a decade, I thought of my old home of an apartment and cold winters, standing by our tiny radiator in my mom's room. It was the size of a shoebox, with little grills that kids couldve stuck their fingers through and got burned.
Some time over a month ago, I was back home on break when I heard the horn of a passing train. I thought back to some night long ago, when I was barely 7 or 8, and I was sleeping on my mom's bed, under the window. For some reason, she had not brought her keys that night, and I remember her shouting for me outside the window. I look down two stories to see her, and went to open the door for her.

| i believe i remember reading that the sense of smell is the strongest trigger to past memories. or once you smell something, you can usually remember that first time you came across the scent. also it could trigger memories of where you were, what you were doing, who you were with when you come across the same scent again, no matter the amount of time that has passed. |

| I get that feeling all the time. Smelling is actually considered to be the strongest memory-inducing sense. I get smells from my 1st grade class all the time, and of my ex girlfriend. They are all around us. |

Old lady Blush. The kind you would find when you walked into a mistresses house... Mmm. Brings back memories. I think I'm a perv, make up brings back a lot of memories for me.
Also fried chicken in the streets... reminds me of Korea ~_~. Or smelling bakeries....
Sigh... |

For me one specific soap makes me remember Zelda: A Link to the past (I am such a nerd o/ ). Another very strong memory is a swedish meal similar to meatballs but with fish instead of pork/beef in a dill sauce which makes me remember kindergarten like it was yesterday.
Oh, and sorry for the bump, was actually thinking about making my own thread for this but found it here instead. Would like to hear some more of these ^_^ |
