Dry Erase Boards

I'm sure I'm not the only person here who always wanted a dry erase board in their house. When I was in college I often wished I had one, but it was usually unconventional to try to buy and install one into college housing.

Recall my blog months ago where I presented my problem of having nowhere to point my projector: link. At schools, often the dry erase board is used as a screen. I really do want a dry erase board for doing math/physics, and also a screen, and I finally have a place to put one.

I did some preliminary research, and the two sizes I'm looking at are 4'x6' 3'x5' (all in feet). Staples offers both with free shipping. The 4x6 is $220 and the 3x5 is $160.

1) Can I get a better deal elsewhere? If so, please point me in the right direction.
2) Who actually has one? How big is it? What's your take on how big is good? Is it worth the extra foot in each direction?

I think having it shipped to my house is a must since I'll have trouble transporting home an item of this size.

I would just like to say that Staples is probably not the best place to get a good deal on one (don't know a better place though....possibly ebay?). Something else you can look at is dry-erase material that you can screw onto a wall kind of like wallpaper (but much thicker). I know at my school they have a few rooms that the actual wall material is made from that stuff, so it might be cheaper.

yea they are really expensive, but I went the cheap route, if you have a home depot or lowes or some type of home improvement store, I got some white laminated sheet board for bathrooms i think and its dirt cheap and really big, ill try to find a link for it some time in the next day or so

My roommate and I had one, we used it for everything. They're great, so useful and clean.

But, they're called DRY erase for a reason. Never, EVER get them wet.

Yeah I could use one as well, but I don't seem to have room anywhere. I'd probably use it to remind myself of things coming up, like a huge ass calendar, or something.

i have one lying around too but its old and dirty, im entertaining the idea of just buying a sheet of plexiglass. it's a bit cheaper for smaller sizes like 2x3 and probably a lot cheaper for bigger ones.

Found a dry erase board for $95 on this site. Hope this is the one you were looking for. its 4'x6' and you can get a 4'x8' for $125

Sub-Total:
$95.00

Shipping:
$118.80

Total:
$213.80

The site says there is free shipping and tax on select items, but I don't think this qualifies 8o

Edit: http://www1.officedepot.com/a/products/691976/Quartet-Melamine-Dry-Erase-Board-48/ features a 4'x6' for 105 dollars!

Okay Office Depot charges a 25 dollar fee for large/heavy items, so my total will be $140.87. I'm probably going to go with that unless someone finds something better or convinces me to get an alternative item.

My school has one for a calendar. It's really useful since it's for a specific class so we can scribble notes for each other on it. The teachers don't read it so you can basically write whatever as long as you write it so you can't see it from a mile away.

I don't know any good places for a large dry-erase board, but I've always wanted a wall that could act as a gigantic dry erase board. Apparently you can do it pretty cheaply with tileboard (~$50 per wall).

Unfortunately, I'm living in a dorm and they have some pretty strict rules against modifying the room. Here are some links if you are interested (the only thing I'm worried about is the last link says there are staining issues with the tileboard):

there's also magnetic paint for double the fun!
